I've been working in home improvement retail for more than half my life. When I started in this business,we were do-it-yourself stores. Now it seems that everyone wants us to do everything for them. When I was growing up,if you needed a piece of wood cut,you bought a saw and cut it. Now,grown adults that buy a house don't own the simplest of tools to do minor repairs on their house. What's worse is that they are teaching their kids that that's the way to do things.
My management says this is customer service. My fellow employees and I say it's part of the dumbing down of America.

I always thought that Americans are the ones that love the DIY. this was introduced to the Philippines years back, but it never was popularized and not many are into it. we always hire someone to do it for us. there are many plumbers, technicians and electricians around and they only ask for $15 per service day. Its really cheap so people do not resort to doing the things and fixings the stuffs at home themselves. :D In hardware and home improvement stores, you can see that most items there aren't loose ones and they almost always come in a package, so if you need to replace a tank, you have got to buy the whole thing, not a piece when you need only a tube, etc.

I definitely do have to agree with you that customers are just getting more lazier and just people in general. More and more things that are coming out are requiring something or someone to do the work for you while you just sit back and do nothing. I'm like really. You are just making people more and more lazy. I tend to stay away from things that would take less work off of me. I would rather have all the work and then come out with great results then have my work cut in half and the results don't come out so great.

I think everyone is getting more lazy as the year goes on. Maybe 2013 will be better.
