Why aren't computer mice self cooling?

December 5, 2012 3:10pm CST
After sitting in front of the computer for a while clicking away my palm started to sweat. Then it hit me. Why not have air conditioned mice? Who likes having to lift their hands off the mouse to cool it off when you are doing something that requires constant attention? I know it's probably not a technologically sound idea but it would solve the 'sweaty palms' problem. Who's with me? =D

Isn't a really huge mouse a rat?

As long as it's not too big and unwieldy it would definitely be useful. I'm a big 'fan' of this idea =)

I'm a pretty regular mouse user, being around my computer a bunch, but I don't think I've ever gotten sweaty palms from it... And, there's a bit of a problem of having fans to blow on your hands... because if you have sweaty hands on your mouse, then the fans will be blowing that around, and have open vents, so there's a better chance you could get sweat into the mouse, breaking it... I think it would just be better to get AC in the room you have your computer :)

i totally agree with christoph...because every body dont have this problem of sweating hands with mouse, instead it is with some...the if someone use computer too much then he should use it in airy place...or may be in some air conditioned room...

Not quite... if you were in a hot enough temperature, like over 40 degrees, then the sweat wouldn't have enough time to evaporate, but instead it would condense into bubbles of sweat, and be blown off of you by the breeze... or, if you're wiping your hand over the mouse, then your sweat could get onto the grate that's holding your hand up... or, a fan has to be pulling air from somewhere for it to be forced upwards, so if it was on the sides, then any sweat on the sides of your hands would be pulled into the mouse, then shot upwards, or if it's on the bottom, then anything you roll the mouse over would fly up through the mouse. That's the other problem with a fan on a mouse, it's sucking air up as it's blowing air out, which means that there would be far more dust and grit getting into your mouse... and if nearly any of that gets onto the laser or wheel in the mouse, then the mouse just won't work as well... and if you move the mouse over any kind of liquid, including your sweat, then there's a good chance it would just short out and break. So, sorry, but the fan-mouse idea just wouldn't work...

But considered it will be cooling off your palm there won't be sweat to get into the mouse right?

You right, I also have the same situation. I always online for about 4 hours in one session and I will be holding my mouse except when typing. I think it's better to have something like small fan in the mouse by the producer or have something like wrapper made from leather or cloth so that it can absorb our sweat from our palm when we use it. I think this is new idea for the producer in the market to have something like gloves for mouse or small build in fan in the mouse.

The cloth or leather would also make the mouse more comfortable to use. Great idea!

Usually all the electronic devices that have cooling features, do it because the heat would cause problems to the device. What you are proposing is that an electronic device will feature cooling to make the user more comfortable and not the machine. Maybe someone has already thought of something like this. Did you try googlin mouse with cooler or something similar? :P

I think you are creating a solution to a problem that is not really a problem - How very 21st century of you. The fact that your hand is telling you that you are spending too much time at the computer with out a break - get up and go for a 5 minute walk.... Hey! Look at that, I have solved you problem

Yes taking a break would solve the problem no doubt, but What about those times that you have to finish whatever it is you're doing, and are on a strict time limit?

Haha, you never know a company could be developing a new type of mouse that is sweat resistant and has a built in fan? - apart from this there are a few ways of reducing sweaty palms naturally, but then again if you are a gamer and require intense and constant attention, you may want to experiment with a mouse by strapping those miniature battery powered fans onto it.

That's a great idea but you see you should try to make your idea come to life before someone else does it. If I found a very good and cheap one I'd buy it, if it makes difficult to use it on my mouse than I wouldn't, how about making some scatches and trying it out, with the internet here it's easier to sell things now, good luck and Happy Mylotting.

I think their is another way to avoid having your mouse getting all wet from your sweaty hands, the best thing is to do is to wipe it off with a rag, good solution and a lot cheaper than to go in the store to buy yourself an expensive cooling mouse.

There's an idea. Technically you wouldn't need to put a fan in it. All you would need to do is put a miniature refrigeration unit in it. If the mouse is cold I don't think your hand would get sweaty while using it. You could even market it under a name like "Cool Mouse". Very catchy I think. PS If this by any chance makes you unbelievably rich, don't forget about the rest of us.

Yes after all the idea is to get rid of 'sweaty palms' fan or no fan if its cool then the goal is accomplished. Don't worry if it does make me rich I'm apt to share. ^-^

I could go for that, every so often I get that urge to lift my hand up to wipe it or blow at it. As for being technologically sound or not I'm sure there is some way to make an air conditioner small enough for some of the larger mice somebody just has to put some work into it. Imagine, Sweaty palms a thing of the past ^.^ If nobody has suggested it you might try getting a company to try it out or something you never know.

Haha perhaps you're right! Maybe air conditioned mice will be 'soon to come'? I hope it makes people's lives a lot easier. =)
