What Is A Dollar Worth?

December 5, 2012 4:26pm CST
Seems a simple question, but let us think globally. The default currency of the planet is the dollar, ergo it is the currency of the internet. The point is that we are not all American, we have our own currencies. What I am trying to address here is what is a dollar worth to YOU? I live in the UK and a dollar is worth about £0.62. 62pence or £0.62 to keep it simple will buy a can of Pepsi. The cashout at MYLOT is $10 - In the UK that would be roughly £6.20 and that would pay for a paperback book or a packet of cigarettes (Almost) Now there are some parts of the World where a dollar will buy more than a can of Pepsi and $10 will be a very very nice bonus. That is not meant to be patronising in anyway, it is a fact. So this discussion is what does a dollar mean to you

Here in Mexico its worth 12.45 pesos. But its better value here, as the dollar is strong here. One dolllar mexico is like 2.5 more than the dollar.

i live in the USA so it will buy very little these days. except if you go to the 99cent store where they have lots of things only a dollar or as its said 99cents. like can food, cookies, bread, some veggies. 1 buck, or rather 99 cents with a penny left, each. not at the grocer. you cant get much unless the generic soda is on sale. you can get 1 soda. a candy bar is often less then a dollar if its normal size. my dad used to go by the penny saved penny earned idea, but today if he was alive he would likely be shaking his head. saying a dollar saved is a dollar earned. seeing as how you cant get squat with a penny any more

Mylot is paying on 10 dollar and if the dollar rate is 50 in Indian currency then we got only 500Rs. on 10 dollar. I not understand the meaning but only knows if my payment is 10dollar and my return back money is depend upon dollar rate.

Money is worth what people will give you for it. Right now, a dollar (plus tax, to help pay the police department etc.) will get me a box of 10 Piroline pastry-sticks or a gallon of water or 2 'gourmet' lollipops or a can of tomato-sauce or a package of 5 bags of Ramen noodles ... the grace of G*d passed-down through the FAMILY DOLLAR.

There's a saying. 'A dollar and a dream, to make cream.' A dollar worth to me is closer to more dollars that's waiting for me to achieve.

dollar is an "politic" tool. Why, as we know, USA is the "most powerful" on this world. So, it's all about USA. USA was trying very hard to be always be number "one". I'm sure, although it's dropped to be 10th of worse, as long as the "politic" still taking side on USA, dollar will always be the first. Not poundsterling or euro.

Really? I suggest you read more and watch more seriously TV. The dollar will not alway be first. For the past 3 or 4 years there have been trade partnerships between India and China and Russia - They believe that the dollar is no long strong enough to be the sole global currency and the want to introduce either a replacement or rival currency for global trading. This will not happen soon, however in 10 or 15 years China will have overtaken the US as the biggest economy - With the Russians, Indians, Brazilians and canadians not far behind. The US will no longer have the influence that they have enjoyed since the second world war. It is inevitable, because everything moves in cycles - The UK was once the richest nation on the planet, the end of the British Empire and two world wars put an end to that

i do agree with you. But, it's not about "currency" only. Politic talks about actors. So, that i mean of dollar is "politic" tool. It will be the first symbol of currency as long as people behind them still undefeated.

1 USD here in the Philippines is equivalent to 40 Pesos. I've listed several things that I could think of that the said amount can buy. - a meal from our office canteen (1 rice and 1 viand) - almost a liter of gasoline (well you have to buy at least 1 liter so adding money is a must) - one large fries - 30 pesos worth of prepaid phone load (equals to 30 text messages)

A dollar means a contribution towards a treat for me - usually a book - or a donation to someone with a greater need then me. As I am in the UK too it buys half a newspaper or almost 2/3rds of any single item at Poundland. I think that were we to be in India or Pakistsn it would have much greater purchasing power.

76 euro cents would get me change for a small black coffee in the local bar, but would be just short of enough for a can of soft drink in the same place. If I went to a bigger town I'd not even get a coffee for 76c. It's probably a few cents more than it would take to send a letter to my family. I'd be able to buy one expensive brand of milk or one and a half cheap ones, or a bottle of cheap tomato sauce. Other than that, I'm struggling to think of anything it would buy!
