Of course it is a good decision to quit smoking. But I heard many people say once you get rid of it, you will gain more wights. Is that true? I am a non-smoker, so I don't know whether it is right or wrong. Perhaps smoking is a bad habit and you will be healthier if you don't smoke. And this is why you will gain more weights?

Psychology speaking, could be. People who smoke if quitting will crave for something to put in the mouth. that's why people who were smokers and trying to quit from it wants to eat and munch something to substitute the sensation of smoking. the brain signalling the action to put something in the mouth. You may notice some smokers who are quitting from smoking, usually bite on pencils or pens. LOL I think that's the psychological effect of quit smoking.

I don't know either if that is a fact.Quitting smoking is really hard indeed though i do not smoke but i encountered lots of people who are smoking they find it hard to quit.Though they know that there will be many disadvantage smoking could bring but still they smoke. I think gaining weight when quitting smoking is possible but not for all i guess.

Ho youless,
It is a fact that quitting smoking at any stage of life is a good decision and yes you have heard correctly because when you quit smoking, your taste buds improve function and food gets more tasty. Also smoking depress hunger. So it is quite natural that people eat more so people do gain one or two Kg of weight. But gaining weight is not even 1% as harmful as keep smoking.

I gained 20 pounds when I quit smoking. I don`t think my metabolism changed, but quitting gave me so much anxiety and stress that I ate a lot more for some time. Smoking, by the way, is NOT a habit. It is an addiction, and it is very hard to leave. I wish nonsmokers would understand smokers a little more and be helpful instead of disdainful when they try to quit.

Before all the nicorette and patches etc, people would actually turn to sweets or eating instead of smoking, because they needed something to put in their mouth, so of course eating instead of smoking they gained weight. My father smokes a pipe and will never quit but he is obese, because he eats too much and smokes too much.

It is really easy to put on weight if you're a regular smoker, and then you quit smoking... and there are 2 big reasons for it...
One, is that smoking increases your heart rate, and makes your body work more... I mean, its a narcotic, so your body is working harder when you're a smoker. This is one of the big reasons that die faster from smoking, because your body is working more, but not in the form of exercise, so it's easier for your body to die out.
The second part, is that when a smoker stops smoking, they want to be doing something with their mouth and hands, and therefore, eating more just makes sense. There's a better chance that they'll eat more and have more calories in a day right when they stop smoking, so, they put on more weight.
But, after they've stopped smoking for a while, it is way easier to be active, work out more, do better for their body, so in the long run they'll loose the weight and do way better.
Overall, its always better for you to not smoke, then to smoke.

It's true that people put on some weight after quit smoking. This situation is due to metabolism in the body turn slow after the reducement of nicotine in the body. Somehow, putting on weight is just temporary, consume more water and do more exercise can turn things to normal.

I think it will be sort of. Smoking is really dangerous in our health. And yes I think the smoker could more gain weight if the smoker resists to smoke. I have a friend who is very thin and he is a chain smoker. He encourages me to smoke and of course I refused it. I said I do not want to be like his body. It is not normal already.

It is not always the case. Quit smoking and putting on weight are both things that you deal with strong will and motivation.
