Yesterday night we have cyclone effect here in my place and there was a thunder sounds and whenever we have rain there will not be power. My son asked me not to leave him and go anywhere because he is afraid of that sounds. I said "okay, but i have work in the kitchen i have to finish off i will be in the kitchen you be here with me", as he heard that thunder sounds he just hugged my legs and said "i am afraid mom", i said "don't be afraid and don't worry, god is there he will be watching us and he will save us if you pray god. That thunder sounds will not do anything for Good boys or girls, you are a good boy so it will not effect you, you just pray god" i said. Immediately he asked me "what is the language for god how he can understand my words"? I said god knows all the languages he can here your prayer. Friends see the kids thinking, how they are how innocent they are, i feel mother is the one who has to teach our children in a right way. When they come to us with their doubts we must clarify their doubts with love. Friends, Just we all discuss about this issue. Share with me with your views and experiences with your kids. Thanks in advance.

Hi JO! Kids are innocent and they keep asking these kinds of Question about nature and God. They should be told that God listens to us even if we speak/pray in any language. As regards the incident you have quoted, it could have been told to your son that it is a natural phenomenon and one should not feel afraid of it. I feel if we keep telling these things to our kids, they get to learn gradually and when they grow up their form their own opinion about the Great God and nature.

What a smart kid! Good for him that at such a young age he is able to hear or he knows something about God. For me, God is multi-lingual, as simple as that. He is the source of everything so automatically understands everything. :)

Hi Jo, You have explained rightly about the God’s language. My experiences are funny dear. My 5 year old is demanding I(mother) should know everything as she is the God. They are learning from a Kid’s organization ‘treat parents as God’ they are teaching the kids to touch feet of parent and seek the blessing every morning when they woke up from sleep. Ok they are doing it. Now the funny is, whenever he asked any doubt and if I say I don’t know, his reply is ‘This God does not know anything’ (here the God is me). He is saying so innocently I am laughing on hearing it. But I explained, parents are the visible God for children. You can’t see God so you have to consider the parents as GOD as they are visible and doing everything for you. It does not mean that father and mother is the real God and should know everything. They are only human beings but kids should treat their parents like God.

Yes, you are absolutely right. We have to be spontaneous and be prepared to answer the questions that our young children asked us. You are really good in answering the above question. God understand all the languages in the world and knows our hearts' desire. I remembered my son asked me this " Mum, you give birth to me because you want to have a pet?" I got a shocked! A pet ??? " I said I always asked God to blessed me with a good son, so I can love him and share happiness together." ...then he answered "Oh..." I just wonder whether he understand what I am saying.

I feel so sad while reading the post. How innocent the kids are. During my childhood days i was also afraid of thunder storm. Especially in our places when it starts rains, power also went off immediately. As per my understanding even language is not needed for prayers, as God can understand each and everyone's heart beat.

dear Jo Your son is so innocent and his question is very cute God knows every language but I know one language that God has given us to communicate without using a single word...and it's LOVE. Love is the universal language and I am sure everyone knows it by heart

god has no language, or every language.. spoken (in your head), by signs (see around you nature etc).
