For the First time

Philippines

After typhoon Pablo, my friends, parents and relatives were really at shocked due to the tremendous damage that Pablo caused. What worsen the case in our Province (Compostela Valley) was that it was hit for the first time. Most houses there are not typhoon resistant and we were not really prepared. And as Typhoon Pablo stroke the province, most families are left homeless and death tolls are ever increasing. Have you experienced typhoon for the first time lately?

so sorry to hear that. One of my friend is from there too.He uploaded their house picture before and after the typhoon and It's very sad to look at.Theirs was a big house that was made from bricks and cements, then how much more those who only live in nipa huts.I hope you can survive all these trials.Good luck to you and all our fellow countrymen there.I know the spirit of "bayanihan" among us is still in us.We have shown that too many times before. We will pray for you kenshin.God bless!

Hi Kenshin, it seems that you are interesting with the Typhoon discussion but anyway, it's great topic for me to update about the typhoon. I don't have any experienced yet, I never witness that kind of tremendous unpleasant weather but I don't want to see it, LOLZ. Since that you are in Davao, how was it?

We are very fine here in davao. In fact, we just experienced a mild rain here in our location, however, strong winds also struck other parts of davao.

Oh dear, hearing the word 'typhoon' is already make me scared. I have not really experience drastic typhoon and I hope never to experience any. I heard typhoon Pablo has taken more than hundreds of lives. Prayed that more people are safe and may God watched over them.

Hello kenshin, politicians and public servants are always to blame for corruption and lack of proposed infrastructure projects to prevent a community from experiencing floods. not to mention, it was said that illegal logging had added the worse in the Typhoon to your home town.lack of storm resistant houses and structures could really get your community in trouble.

As for the logging, I agree with you because logging here is pretty rampant. However, with regards to the infrastructures and houses thing, I cannot blame the people in power because I myself can really assess that we are so confident that we will not experience such because of the mountains that are covering our province. However, we still experience a rampage of mud, wind and water.

First of all, I'm glad that you and your family are safe. That typhoon was such a big disaster in Mindanao and lately there have been quite a few typhoon disasters there. I remember my grandmother who stayed there in Mindanao when she was just a child told us that in her time, a typhoon ravaging Mindanao was unheard of. That's why she keeps on saying that there really must be a problem in the climate or maybe with the forest (or lack of forests) in Mindanao. She has very fond memories of Mindanao and is quite sad with what happened with this typhoon.

Yes, the same typhoon hit our city too, just last Monday and it was terribly strong. So many trees were uprooted, some roofs were destroyed, signboards, power lines were cut and one floating office was swept away to the road. We're just a lucky city because there are no deaths so far, people here were really vigilant everybody applied necessary safety measures, so the damage is just minor damage of property since no life was lost.

Typhoon is not new in our locality but we thought then that our place was flood free but Ondoy proved that our notion was wrong. Since then, every heavy rain would now keep residents on the alert. It showed us also that nature's wrath is no joke but somehow a lot of people are still beyond comprehension for garbage are still dumped on creeks and water passageways.

Hi, The eye of Typhoon Pablo a.k.a. Bopha passed twenty kilometers to the South of our town. I expected it to arrive on the sundown of December 4 but it accelerated its pace and eighty-kilometer per hour winds from the northwest started to blow scattering leaves everywhere. I hurried home from my station to check the house and I was not able to leave afterwards. Drenching rains and swirling headwinds battered the houses all around, blowing away roofs of neighboring houses not latched firmly. At exactly twelve noon, there was a lull and I warned everyone that the eye of the typhoon is passing by and expect to get the wind from the opposite direction. Sure enough, at around one o'clock in the afternoon the winds build up again from the southeast, stronger this time, rattling my roof like a giant fist slamming down and threatening to rip it away. The wired galvanized iron roofing held to the wooden three by four substructure for dear life. It took nearly three hours of this but after a seemingly interminable time, towards sunset, I was able to dismount the boards on the windows to see more leaves on the ground. It was not the first time here. There was Ruping, Nitang and Unsang during the seventies and I weathered all of them too. We have zero casualties, thanks to the cooperation of the townsfolk in heeding the warning to go to the evacuation centers long before the typhoon struck. The waves too, ironically was very calm when the wind reversed direction. All in all, we are very fortunate, bordering on the miraculous. First, it came on broad daylight, second, the full force of the 240kph gusting wind was weakened by the mountain ranges that surround our town and third, the storm surge was nil when it made the mistake of blowing seaward.

How are you and your family now kenshin? I am sorry to her that typhoon Pablo really stuck you and your townmates there. I hope you could have a speedy recovery of what had happened. My experience on typhoon is when we had flood here in our town which seldom happens. The flood came in our business which is just beside the public market. Most of our things and appliances were broken then. I forgot the typhoon name but it is just this year that happened.

Really ? It was the first time ? By this is not the only time i heard of a flash flood in Compostela . Correct me if i am wrong , but i guess this is not the first for flash flood to occur in your place. So sorry for the victims , my heart cries for this especially to those very innocent ones. Who is answerable for this now ? Is it those people who engaged in illegal cutting of trees or those who go for mining. I heard only like 300 who are legal miners and the illegal are more than a Thousands. So sad for this because we abuse our nature, and we are the ones paying for it . The saddest part here is that not so much number of rich people pays for it but often the poor ones used to pay and the payment was priceless , their lives. Not yet too late , hope we can preserve Mother Earth and let us not wait for others to do it , let us start to do it within ourselves , our family.

The weather this year has been insane all around the World. In the Uk it has not stopped raining since March, luckily our rain has been even and spaced out over 9 months. We have had repeated flooding over the year in many parts of the country, however it does not compare to the pictures we are seeing coming from your part of the World

I have experienced it here in the metro city and I know how scary it is. Thu my place is not affected much compared to other cities here in metro, but still the fear is there. I hope we can help those affected families in your area...the smallest way we can do is a big help.
