after i graduate, while i pack all my stuff, there is something i realize.
oh no!!! there are so many clothes that i have even i never wear it.
i just buy them all and keep them in my closet. hhuhuhu... now i really feel regret about it, how much i already waste my money on something that i really don't even use it
what make me more sad is, even half of them already have a hole.
maybe already bit by cockroaches , i don't now. huhu
why people love to buy but never to use them. arghhhh

NO it is not a waste.. donate it, give it so some people around you or street children. Wash it, put it in a bag and give it to the street children you will see... It's not really a waste at all

the more holes the better.. instant and natural fan.. from the outside to the skin. I don't mind your 70s clothes with holes... I can just put patches on them.

I have done that. But without the holes. Right now I'm going through things to get rid of. I have so many clothes I could open store. And some that I never got around to wearing. Some I only wore once. I love clothes. I don't know why I never wore some of them. I guess I just never got around to it, with so many things to wear. If we get holes in our clothes where I am they are caused by moths. Don't feel bad. Lots of people do the same thing. You're not alone. I have done it a long time ago and I guess I still do it.

I do actually have a few things I saved from the late 60's-early 70's. Hippie style clothes. Whatever made you ask that? I forgot all about them. They're put away someplace in the basement. And a few pieces of jewelry from back then.
It must be difficult to travel and take your clothes, because I guess you can't take everything with you. But I think you probably manage very well. Are you working today? Or spending your morning on mylot? Happy to see you tonight!

Oh, you wasted your money and the opportunity to use those clothes. If you'll buy your clothes next time, wear them immediately. Don't save them for special occasions because they might get bitten by cockcroaches, etc. Thanks for sharing.

Could it have been moths? I mean usually when you hear about protecting clothes from bugs when storing them people talk about moths rather than bugs like cockerroaches.

Best way to prevent cockeroaches is to use the traps like Raid Max.
I think it is more likely that it was moths.

I think being aware is a huge part of breaking any habit..so if you really want to break the habit of over shopping, I think you can.
A lot wil depend on how addicted you are to shopping. I have several friends who love to shop and find it soothing and relaxing to buy new clothes so whenever they are depressed or bored..they shop. LOL that means a lot of spur of the momment purchases.
I am the opposite..I like to look and lokk and see everything and decide wich are best and the mpst flattering before I decide. I also will take things back if after a day or so at home I am not excited about what I bought or if at home it doesn't look as good as in the store.
Good luck to you..hope you can either return or sell anything you are not wearing before they have holes.

This is true that the first step to making change in your life is admitting that there is a behavior that you want to change. Keep in mind that if shopping is a pattern it might be hard for you to break the tendency to over buy. For me, it only takes one look at expensive price tags to say I do not really need the items. It takes willpower to choose between what you want and need.
You may find that having an inventory of the clothes that you need will help you to keep track of the items in your closet. It is just an idea. Also, you may find it helpful to make yourself a strict shopping list for clothes especially if you are prone to over shopping. Then, you could use your list to help you to keep from over shopping. You could even give yourself a limit like I am only going to buy 5 items. Then, your list might be like pants, shirts, and one impulse buy if you really feel the need. This way you could still get two tops and two pairs of pants that you need, and satisfy your wants with one impulse buy. The trick to stop over shopping is to give your shopping limits and boundaries.

@stary yes, i really had that bad habit when i start to go to collage,
maybe i had to plan everything include the money.
so , i just buy anything that i want, until i did not realize it become an addiction.
but , right know i learn to control myself. buying the thing that i need most and never to buy that something can be a waste late.
yes i have planning to sell few of my clothes, lucky i also find few site that can help me too to sell all the clothes that still in good condition
@aireanna. shopping list??? hahaa i never make them. even when i go to buy groceries, i don't make a list. i just go and buy what i want, sometime i will buy even unnecessary thing.
even if i try to make shopping list , i always tend to buy other thing too.
sometime it really hard to control this habit.
right now i try to bring enough money to buy, never bring extra money, so that i will never take other thing that will waste in future

Oh sorry to hear that half of your clothes that you never worn before has holes because of cockroaches. How big is the hole? and in which area? How about adding applique to cover the hole? You know how to crochet, right? How about making some application like flower, stars, etc and then attach it to the hole?
I too have so many clothes that I never worn before, some I gave it to cousins because the size doesnt fit me anymore, or the model looks childish for me since I've grown up to be a woman .
I know I spent a lot of money for clothes before, and then I have so many things in my closet that I never worn. But it's funny whenever I want to go out I always complain that I dont have enough clothes, no shoes to hang out, although I have a lot of them.

I have a couple of tops that I was given as presents, the first time I wore one of them, I got a nasty remark from some guy at the gym, so it put me off wearing it, I have never worn the other top, I know I shouldn't care what others think, but I didn't want to draw attention to myself by wearing either top, they would make me too conspicuous. I am very shy and don't like to be pinpointed for verbal abuse or unwanted attention. Maybe I should give the tops to charity so someone else can benefit they are new after all.

Well, I must ask do you like the tops? If so, is their away to still wear them without getting the unwanted attention. Seeing that you did not mention what type of unwanted attention you received it is hard to know what the issue is with the tops. If it low cut you could possibly wear a cami top under them.

I am the same with handbags and scarves but not (much ) with clothes.
I moved appartments this year and it was a great opportunity to get rid of a lot of stuff that I never wear. Fortunately it was still in good condition so some I passed on to my friends and DIL and the rest went to charity.
Sad that yours was ruined (which would not have happene if you had worn them I guess).

mysDianait, I cannot imagine having tons of scarves especially seeing as I never buy them. I have two scarves that people gave to me. One is black and the other is white. I only wear them when it is really cold here, which is pretty rare for Arizona, but every now and then we get a really cold storm that blows through for a week or two. Purse, I tend to use until they start to fall apart; then I will purchase a new one. The only issue is that I never remember to clean out the old purse. So, the old purse that are falling apart tend to get tucked away into the closet till I get to cleaning them out. It is a bad habit.
I do agree that when it comes to moving there is no point in packing things that you no longer want. Take time to pare down. Only pack those things that you truly plan to keep and use if not I would say that selling or donating them would be best. Keep in mind, I do keep a few things that have special meaning. Sometimes things in life happen that make us want to shed our memories of the past, so think whether or not you want to keep carrying around the memories of the past.
I would also advise someone who has just graduated to keep in mind that your life has changed, so you may find that a lot of the clothes of the past really do not still suit the image that you want as a professional. Decide which items to keep for the weekends and to wear around the house. Then, I would say get rid of the rest in one fashion or another. If you need money and the clothes are in good repair, you could seel them. Otherwise as mysDianait, mentioned donating items can always be another good idea. I mean just because you do not have a need for the clothes or intend to wear them again this will not be true for other people. Think of it this way sometimes one person's garbage is another person's treasure.

I would suggest washing them in Biz. If they are really yellowish, I would suggest soaking them in the Biz for awhile. Biz is usually really good for getting stains out of things. Biz is safe to use on colors. If the clothes are solid white, you could add a cup of bleach into the wash once the washer starts to aggitate the clothes. The only thing with bleach is that sometimes it can cause fabric to deterriorate with it becoming more prone to holes. I would say try the Biz first.
You might want to check out the book Color Me Beatutiful that does tend to help you to learn your style for clothes especially since you are working to transition your style. This book may give you some ideas on transitioning your style. I think the book does a good idea of helping you to define your style based upon your personality. It is an easy read as it is a fairly short book with short chapters.

Oh, what a waste. You could have sold all of them if it were not for those holes. Well, there's half that's in good condition still. You could at least get some money selling those It's true though that there are people who buy stuff that just ends up rotting away in their closets. I had quite the same experience as yours when I was a teenager. I also had clothes that I've only used once or twice, and eventually forgotten about them, until I cleaned up several months after. It's a good thing though that they were still in good condition that I was able to sell them.

Here is an idea. If the clothes only have a few small holes. Wash them and set these tops and bottoms aside to wear for pajamas. We all like to wear comfy clothes around the house. If the clothes are still in good repair, you could take them to a place like Buffalo Exchange to sell them. You could also donate some of the unwanted clothes to a charity like Goodwill.
Here are a few strategies to help you keep from this tendency in the future.
1) Clean out you closet on a regular basis. Seriously, I would remove any items that do not fit. Rotate around the seasons especially if the temperatures change much where you live that way you will have the clothes that you will be wear most easily accessible. I tend to try to organize the closet so that I have like colors together. I will put all pink sh and pants together. This makes it easy to find clothes so that you will actual wear them. It also makes it fun because you can mix and match your outfit.
2) Remember the less is more trick. Figure out the basics of what you need. Generally, 4- 5 pairs of shorts, pants, blouses, and tops will serve your needs. If you have not read Color Me Beautiful you may want to check it out. It helps you to identify you color season. This also helps you when you are shopping because you will only buy clothes that make you look beautiful. In addition, you will gain a great wardrobe that all blends together. Since I used this tactic for shopping for clothes, I never run out of ideas for outfits. I can change it up, and make a new outfit by mixing and matching different pieces within my wardrobe. Keep in mind that this book also teaches you to realize the basic of what you need in your wardrobe. Keep in mind, I have transformed a sleeveless knit dress into looking like a completely different outfit buy wearing a dressy top over it. The same dress I could dress down with a turtleneck under it for a more casual look. It all takes learning to use what you have rather than going out to buy more clothes for each occassion.
3) Learn the rule of if you have not worn it in a year donate or sell the item. I mean if it has sat in the closet for an entire year the probability that you are going to decide to wear it is pretty low.
4) I would suggest that once you learn to buy only the clothes that you need. Start investing in clothes of better quality. They will last longer, and will not be prone to getting holes. You do not have to spend a fortune to have nice clothes. I have learned to shop at the local clearance centers. My favorite is Dillard's Clearance Center. This is because I also get great deals on clothes. I can usually find pants between $2 - 12. Dresses I have found for about $20. It does take knowing what you need. The truth is that it you will find that if you buy good quality clothes that you will have a wardrobe to last for quite a few years. Then, you can just add a piece or two to it as you need.

@aireanna that a lot of tips u give to me. i will try to follow maybe few from it. hehehe... of course i have done some modify on my clothes.
one time i make a crochet a flower a put it on the hole, to cover it.

ung, that is wonderful that you are so creative at fixing clothes. I have a dress that I need to take to see if a seemstress can fix it. It was this really comfy sweater dress. I really like it, but the first time I wore it I snagged it. I managed to keep the yarn from pulling to mess it up from causing a run, but when I did this it made a small hole on the front of the dress. I think that it could probably be darned so that it is not noticeable. I do know a good seamstress for fixing things, but it way on the other side of town. So I am hoping to see about getting the dress fixed when I have a little bit of extra cash.
Well, I give the ideas of tips that might help you. You will have to decide which ones will work for you; then apply the ideas and make modifications based upon your life. Hope some of these ideas will be beneficial.
When I was younger, I liked to do a lot of shopping too. Well, I worked at a department store in the mall, so sometimes I would go shopping on my lunch break. That year was one of the few times that I willing went shopping on Black Friday. Robinson May, which used to be my favorite store to shop had some good deals. On my lunch, and it odd to say it was lunch because it was like 9 or 10 am. I went to snag a few desired items. The amazing thing was that because I spent so much time wandering the mall during my lunch periods it was easy to go directly to the bargains and get in and out of the store even though it was very busy.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i think there is nothing to regret or feel worried about as this situation happens with most of us. Most of us out of desperation try to get clothes all at one go and then subsequently forget wearing them and while packing or unpacking stuffs we get reminded that we had some clothes which we had not even tried one.
I think now since u have traced many such outfits u can try them out once u reach your home town so u wont have nay regrets left in u. The torn ones u get it in better position by taking it to a tailor shop.
What say?

I think that this is part of the reason that I like walk in closets because it is easier to see your clothes. Then, things do not get forgotten since they do not get stuck towards the back of the closet where you see it. Also, I think it helps if your closets are not so stuffed because again you can see the items more at a glance so you do not forget them.
I have once bought a dress that was more like a special occasion dress. It was one of those finds where it was such a good deal that I could not pass it up. I wore it a few times, and it worked as a nice dress for a Christmas party one year. Now, it is too small, but it had some sentimental meaning so I have hung onto it for the past few years.

Ricki, I do this too. I tend to keep using clothes until they are at the point that they become rags. I mean even when the item starts to get to worn to wear out it can still be fine for pajamas to put on after your shower. Okay, I guess I am kind of frugal. The other thing that I would mention is that clothes can be pretty pricey, so you may try finding some of the clearance outlets for stores. I love to go shopping at Dillard's Clearance center for clothes. I generally end up finding items cheaper than I would have paid at Target or Wal-Mart. Okay, it takes some bargain hunting and timing to go when they are giving you extra discounts on the items that you need. Yes, a lot of the time it is more like buying clothes from the previous season, but still a bargain is a bargain.

ung, I do love finding good deals on clothes. Still, I rarely go clothes shopping. I will only go when I need clothes. I have learned to window shop for things on the internet to satisfy my want for shopping. When I say window shopping online, I mean that I look without purchasing. It is like I find things that I will want to purchase later when I have funds.
Maybe, it is good to be tight on money because I am much more prone to shopping when I have money. When times are tight, I stick rigidly to the necessities.
I think once you start working and earning money you will probably notice that you impulsive shopping declines. I mean when you have to work hard to earn money those dollars take upon a different value. It is like you have worked so hard to earn it that you do not want to squander your earnings.

Well, it is good that you acknowledge the behavior, but if you want to change the trend you need to understand why you buy so many clothes that you do not need. Do you just shop as a hobby, do it because you are bored, or is there another reason for your shopping habit. Once, you understand the reason for the behavior; then you can start to find replacement behaviors. For example if you shop because you are bored, you can start to think of new things to do when you are feeling bored rather than going shopping.

I have a different issue. Pretty much all my clothes I wear in my closet as I am more of a frugal shopper. I will make the clothes last till they have holes in them. Yes, they tend to transition from clothes fit for wearing out to clothes intend only for around the house. Rather than spending money on pajamas I generally will use old shirts and shorts for around the house.
My issue is that I have lost weight so the items that I do not wear in my closet currently are the ones that do not fit me. The clothes are still in good repair. If only, I knew someone that was good at taking in clothes. Part of me wonders if it would not be best to just have a few of them taken in at a local seamstress. Well, I might check the price of that for a few favorite items when I have some extra funds. I have a really pretty and white skirt with pink flowers on it. It has always been a favorite. The last time I wore it though I had to pull out tricks from an episode of America's Next Top Model. See, I was running late for work so I quickly grabbed the skirt and a blouse to wear. The skirt would just fall off. As I was in the bathroom doing my hair, I grabbed a barrette that I quickly clipped at the back of the skirt taking in the excuss width of the skirt. Then,, I wore a lose fitting shirt over the skirt. No, one knew my little fashion secret, and I even wore the outfit all day at work.

Well, I guess I should feel happier about losing the weight. I know that it was a good thing. Seeing as it happened, mostly due to health issues over the past year. I look at it as coming at a price. Sad to hear that your clothes are torn by some rodents in your place, oh well you can still make use of it making it to something new or even altering it to save the clothes, you can also make them into rags or even turn them into useful household wiping sheets.
In your concern on why people loved to buy but never use some stuffs, I guess it’s because they would like to reward on what their eyes are telling them. Sometimes people shop because they feel like stuffs on the stores are good not knowing that they will not make use out of those things. Now that you know you are buying things which didn’t make use, I guess next time when you’re on your shopping spree… you should put in mind to buy things wisely.

I have a small closet that I share with my hubby. Some clothes I seldom wear but I can only keep clothes that I do wear. Every summer and winter, I do go through my closet as I can only store seasonal clothes in my closet. The off-season clothes I pack away. I think this helps me only select what I am really willing to wear. I do love to buy clothes but have to limit what I buy. But, I do have room in my drawers for lots of jewelry. Ummm, perhaps it is time to buy more jewelry. :)

That sounds a lot like our weather here most of the time. I will say when I let the kitty out on the patio this morning it was chilly out. I was just wearing a t-shirt and shorts. With the patio door left open for the kitty I grabbed the blanket on the couch because there was a chilly draft air that was being let into the house.
