I do buy the steamer vegetables once in awhile because they are easy to keep without worry of them going bad if I don't use them but I prefer fresh vegetables. Yesterday at the food pantry I got 4 huge carrots that I'm cooking right now to be ready when I make dinner for myself. I like the fact that there are no preservatives and salt which I stay away from. The frozen food I mostly buy is mashed potatoes. I hate peeling and cutting up potatoes sometimes I'll boil them with the skin on which is supposed to be good for you. Which do you use most fresh or frozen vegetables?

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i always prefer fresh vegetables as they are rich in nutrients and u can get them in plenty if taken immediately. I have heard that if u get them frozen then the nutrients are lost from them and u wont be benefited at large. I know there are many things to be done like peeling, cutting and washing but then our health would be at stake if u do not pay attention to such things. What say?

Plus, sometimes the fresh vegetables takes up to 2 weeks to reach the grocery store. There's nothing like the taste of picking vegies out of your own garden and cooking them immediately, or using them immediately. But frozen are just as nutritious, but just don't taste like those fresh vegies to me. What is EG?

I am a huge vegetable eater so I buy fresh and frozen. Mostly the fresh one's though and especially the one's in season. The frozen one's I buy are just peas and sometimes spinach. When I go shopping the cart is usually full of the fresh vegies though and I normally by the same one's each week or two. I'd tell you what I buy but the list would go on and on. I especially love the huge bags of fresh spinach and eat it everyday in my sandwiches, eggs, and in salads. I don't mind making my own mashed potatoes, but I don't make them every week. I normally bake them, or microwave them. I do love the frozen one's but they're a bit salty and I watch my sodium all the time. Now I'm hungry, lol!

I only get to go shopping twice a month since I get food stamps. The first trip I usually get whatever I have run out of and maybe a fresh veg or two and the last trip at the end of the month I usually get more fresh vegs than the first trip.

I do prefer the fresh ones if given the choice, but for longer shelf life it will be the frozen ones. Veggies are more nutritious when they are cooked fresh while frozen ones because it is half-cooked or steamed before freezing and would lost some of the nutrients in the process.

I go for fresh vegetables most of time and as much as possible try to get it from a farmer's market or open market. I've noticed that vegetables from here are fresher. I guess the whole process of shipping it from the farms, going through the supermarket's chain and all makes some of the vegetables a little less fresh. However, some farmer's markets charge way too much for their goods.

I really prefer fresh foods since fresh means nutritious. It is advisable to eat a lot of fresh food because of the nutrients content in it.

thanks ofor posting good question. in the market if u get fresh vegetables go to early morning and get fresh vegetebles. i think day to day get vegetebles. i think if you boiled vegetibls its got his stength and gone the protines of that vegtebles. i think not useing streamer because after that steaming vegetibels thats have gone they protines and strength. lets get fresh vegitebls and wash cleanly after that eat. that the best idea for good health.

Fresh vegetables definitely have an edge over their frozen counterparts. The nutrition preserved in garden fresh vegetables is enormous providing much nourishment to the user.

I (almost exclusively) buy fresh fruits and vegetables. I try to stay primarily local in my food choices as well--better on several levels. You don't need to peel potatoes. You don't even actually need to boil them, either. I bake my potatoes when I want to make smashed potatoes. I never peel potatoes, and I have no interest in making mashed potatoes when smashed are so much faster, easier and have a nicer texture. Fresh root vegetables do keep fairly well. So, stocking up on potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, carrots and beets is a good idea. Cabbage is another vegetable that stores rather well.

I prefer fresh ones. The fresh ones have all the vitamins and minerals and also good for health. so i prefer them the steamed ones are stored and so it looses the fresh taste. potatoes with skin is good as they have lot of fiber which is good for our body.

Fresh do taste a lot better I will admit, but frozen are a lot easier especially from running from job to job. I think both are good for you, but frozen may take out the nutrients more.

I love frozen vegetables because of exactly what you said -- them going bad so i always have a bag. then if i know what i am making that night ill have the fresh but to keep it in my fridge it may go bad and then im wasting money.
