Our office will be having gift exchange event on the 17th. I have picked from the santa clause hat my colleague's name and she wished for something useful/practical. Now can you suggest me what can I give to her, less then $10.

Useful/practical varies person to person. Do you know what she likes or does in general? If you see her daily with coffee then maybe a dunkin donuts gift card so she saves some money for the next week.
If your office is very cold a little old navy cardigan is a good idea. They also sell gas cards so if you know she drives then that would be great. $10 gas does not get much nowadays but it's still something.

I like more practical things as gifts, I don't like things that are useless. Maybe a calendar for the coming year, a date book with some pens. You could start a conversation with her or have someone else do it and see what kind of hobbies she has, things to use for scrap booking, calligraphy pens. Does she have long or short hair? Maybe a collection of hair ties or clips and a nice brush?

good ideas mzz663... I thought I want to give her a box or anything like it to put her pens in it... because I see that she only put them in a mug.
Hair clip or hair band is also good idea because she sometimes tie up her hair in ponytail.
thank you..
