Pearl Harbour Day

Today is Pearl Harbour Day. The beginning of the last war that our country ever won. The war that was supposed to end all wars, the final war to end communism and socialism. The two great "isms" that were meant to end Democracy. Today and for a couple of generations, our children, the grand and great grandchildren of those who fought for our country and all of the western world, are being taught that socialism and communism are better than Democracy. They are taught to work to destroy what we fought so hard to preserve. They are taught to go against their parents beliefs and to report them if they do not conform to what the government wants. There is even a website where angry people can be reported to. Why do we allow this to happen? Why are we letting the government destroy the most beautiful part of our governing system? Why do we not teach our children what we worked so hard to preserve? We need to go into OUR schools and teach the children. We need the few survivors and people who grew up in those times to give personal testimonials to the reality of what they fought against. They were our last heroes. I remember the first time I saw a ration book with stamps still intact. It drove home the great sacrifices EVERYONE made during that time. The people who remained home, took tires off of their vehicles so that the rubber could be used for the war effort. People did without things like sugar and butter. This was when margarine was invented. Kids wore hand me downs and suffered quietly. Women went to work by the thousands in munitions factories. Children pulled carts through the streets collecting everything that could be recycled for the war effort. We were a country with a purpose. Today young people HAVE to have all of their gadgets...They would never sacrifice for the good of the country. They do not actually know were the "wars" are located today and I doubt if any of them could tell you how many have died in the mideast wars. Today, my love and prayers go out to all those who survived Pearl Harbour, WWII, and to all who have served in any war. My challenge to you is to reach out to every child and young adult that you know and convey the FACT that we need to preserve our Democracy and Constitution because it is still the best option in the world. "December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy..." is what Franklin Roosevelt said. Yet how many younger people know this is Pearl Harbor Day or what it meant. Sort of makes me wonder if 70 years from now, people will go "Huh? 9/11? What happened?"

revisionist history is alive and well in our public schools--much to our detriment. I run into it all the time in my work--it's getting harder and harder to find the facts in history anymore. Then again, it's getting hard to find the facts in current events as well.

Hi, People forget, some don't see the point in looking at what has happened, often the new generations blame the past for the quandary they are now not realizing the importance of learning from past mistakes. That's how important history can be.

Yes, we need to teach them. The problem is that most of them will not listen. How do you convince a person with a cellphone in his hand and a laptop on his desk who is getting ready to buy his first car? How do you tell parents of young children who are buying their first home and dressing the children in stylish clothing while dining on steak with their friends who do the same? To them, it's not real. Doing without, pulling together, working toward something meaningful as a nation, just doesn't make sense to them. They have no clue what socialism really means or how Communism would affect their lifestyles, so it doesn't mean anything. They think that somehow things will go on the way they always have. I can understand why they feel that way when they've never experienced anything else. Wars are just on the news. Bombs explode a half world away. People are rounded up and disappear on TV. The world has yet to become reality to them. I hope and pray that they will never experience anything so drastic, but my hope fades day by day.

One never gives up...That is how all wars are won and we are definitely at war right now, with ignorance! Thanks for your response!

No, we can't give up. But there is so much in the air that I don't know that we can make the difference that it will take in time.
