That snowy look to the sky

It's funny how things change. I remember back when I was in school, running to the window at all hours of the night and early morning to check and see if it was snowing. Asking "Do you think we'll have enough snow to not have school? What about atleast a delay?"
Now I'm asking "Do you think there will be enough snow to hinder things? I sure hope not."
When in school we all want it to snow so we don't have to go to school. When you get out of school and into the workforce, it's the opposite. Oh Please don't snow I need to go to work!
Now I know that if there is too much snow and noone can really get out, employers considered it a inclimate weather emergency and won't count it against you. Atleast some do. I don't know about where I work, and it does concern me.
I am hoping it won't snow, or if it does it's just snow. I also hope that if it does snow it melts fairly quickly.
I wish though that for one week out of the year around Christmas everything shut down. One week where people get to stay at home, be with family, cook home made meals, and enjoy their time together.
Now I know that some MUST WORK, and for some that this would be inconvenient.. That is why it is just a wish..
However it wasn't so long ago when shops weren't open on Sundays, when more holidays were observed.
Ah I guess it's my wistful thinking again..

I remember fondly as a child, the wide open eyed happiness of seeing snow, when I was young snow was virtually guaranteed around Christmas time, it added to the Christmas experience, and I couldn't wait to play out in it. Now as an adult I hate the stuff, sure it's pretty to look at but from the inside looking out. Snow always seems to cripple our transport system, we have gritters come along to grit the road just in case. We had our first snowfall on Wednesday when men were supposed to come and do some work to our house, fortunately they still came, it was bitterly cold, the snow didn't last, I hope we see the last of it.

So much is halted or put at a standstill because of snow, that is for sure. The world has changed and so has the climate so It wouldn't surprise me that as the years pass more places have snow and some who have had more, have less.
I want it to snow on Christmas day, but not stick. Just enough for a pretty picture, and a good enough reason for a nice cup of coffee or hot cocoa.

I enjoy snow for a little while, and have some good memories in recent years of a snow. In my job someone would have to work anyway because the clients have to have care and medicine, and food. It can be fun to even be at home and cozy with them, though. One year we had many people who could not come in to work, so those that could just stayed. I have know of jobs where they sent out four wheel drive vehicles to pick people up. Snow is not so bad it is truly the ice that will get you or excessive winds.

Yes I think that those who have had to stay for the company were usually compensated even if the company didn't pay for time and a half. I mean like some probably gave gift cards etc.
I know it's not the snow as snow is just water basically but when it gets cold enough to freeze, and especially black ice.

It would be nice to shut down everything for the holidays at least for one day and two days would be better. Things go on 24/7 any more, with no break at all.
I love snow, but I don't have to get out in it much. I come from Wyoming where snow was a matter of fact occurrence and have a lot of good memories of snow days and just fun in the snow. Now it's not so common, but still it snows. Winter without snow is tiresome to me.

That's nice to have such experiences. Here in my country we used to wait and wish for heavy rains during rainy season. Because due to heavy rains, roads were drowning and school roofs used to drip leaving no place for customer sit in the class. If there were floods in near by villages, ourschool used to be closed, to provide shelter for flood victim families.
Those memories are golden... we should relish them.... ;-)

I hate the Winter & where I once used to love the snow I hate the snow too. When I was a little girl I used to love to play in the snow, but now as adult I just see it as an annoyance that usually turns to slush/ice or both. As for the holidays I don't bother to celebrate any f them because none of them are Bible based. I mean why do you need a holiday to get together with your family? Why wait till then? If you love each other you will make every effort to get together more often. That's what my family does & most of us work or are stay at home Moms, yet we always make time for each other to visit & get together every so often. The best part is we don't have to wait for a holiday to do it either.

Different strokes, Different Folks. I don't like the commercialism brought to the holiday and agree families need to get together more often, but I don't hate the holiday or disagree with it just because of the commercialism involved in it.
