You walk outside and your alone. A stranger tries to touch you. You don't know what his motives are, your not going to let yourself be put in harms way if you can avoid it. If someone walks up to you, manages to restrain you or do something where you cannot defend yourself, when you come to, if you do, your going to regret not doing anything. When your in danger, you will do whatever you have to do to remain safe! If a friend is in danger and your right there, are you just going to stand by and not do anything at all? If your child is in danger, are you going to let them remain in danger? Call me paranoid. I really do not care! I almost died, I was raped and physically beaten and could have died from that! You cannot go into anything you face unprepared! I know that you cannot see the future but to not protect one's self and those you love is nuts! God put people here on earth, how you act, good or evil is all prewritten for everyone! Think about that before you respond. When I found out a class mate had been murdered, I thought that could be me, that could be anyone! One thing to always keep in mind is Stranger Danger! That goes for children and adults.

Hi desertrose16, thanks for sharing this topic. Well, being safe depends on our moves. As the saying goes, "there's no safety on this world only opportunity", meaning danger is always behind our back and could be happen anywhere and anytime. However, every threat of our life concerning safety caused by whatever circumstances and any hazards will be deter and can be avoided eventually if we carefully follow all the safety rules and precautionary measures. We just be more cognizant and vigilant all the time when we are exposed in different environment.

This terrible situation occurs everywhere in this world and Depends actually the location and the environment of that place. but we have to be careful always. We always should live and pass time together in a society which will relieve from all unexpected matters.

I don't believe in paranoia. Paranoia in my book is just a heightened sense of awareness. That means you're just more aware of what's going on around you. I'm 51 and I'm not really afraid to go anywhere. I know anything ca happen to anyone and if anyone thinks it could never happen to them is deluding themselves. There are self defense classes for senior citizens and women that show them how to fight of an attacker or at least alert someone. The main thing for a woman and an older person to remember is stay in well lit areas and if possible never travel alone. Have a cell phone, carry pepper spray, a whistle, etc. Your car key between your fingers and stop an attacker if properly and strategically placed. I'm like you if it's me or them and I can it's going to be them. I came home from work one night, it was about 2 a.m., and when I entered my front door three men run out the back. I ran through the house and shot behind them. I was carrying my .38 when I entered the house. I didn't go anywhere without it. Danger lurks most everywhere and you have to be ever vigilant. None of us wants to become a statistic. Your question: If a friend was in danger would you stand there and do nothing? No, I wouldn't.

I feel sorry about you. What i believe is people should be trained in a self defence program..everyone..this program should be telecasted throughout the world at the same time. I guess that maybe good. Maybe it will feel people united and more stronger

Being a Sr. Citizen I'm always careful where and when I walk. I never carry a purse with me because a lot of Srs have had their purses taken in broad daylight. I'm also very paranoid and sometimes cross the street if I see someone walking towards me. I would be the first one to start kicking and screaming if someone I was with was in danger. I believe my adrenelin would kick in and I could hurt anyone.

You are right that danger is always there. It was like a wild beast in the forest that is always ready to eat. Well, living a dangerous life is not my cup of tea. I have four children and I love all of them. I don't want them to be in danger and I will do my best for them. I really hate those bad people who do anything bad for others. I am always have a thought like this, in case of danger, anyone needs to fight for his/her survival. You are not paranoid! You are just like unsure to your surroundings and that's good for not everyone is trusting. I won't say that you need to free yourself from bad thoughts for I also believe that it is better be sure than sorry in the end.

Danger is everywhere. whether it is accident, planned or unplanned. We have to be careful all the time. Whenever i am walking alone in a dark place, I always pray to God to protect me from danger. And i am walking very fast until i reach my destination. And if i am in that situation, i don't know what to do, I hope that it won't happen to me (pray). Thanks God for protecting me.
