What's All Faiths' Scriptures' Deal with 'Forgiving Seventy Times'?

The Quran tells us (9.80) something more like 'even if you DO forgive them seventy times, they're just as doomed unless Allah sees they changed their ways' ("Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will not forgive them; this is because they disbelieve in Allah and His Apostle, and Allah does not guide the transgressing people."),
But the Christian Gospel mentions 'Forgiving Seventy (times Seven) times' too. What's the deal with seventy?

But I'm talking about ALL religions (well, Christianity AND Islam ... what else is there? DON'T ANSWER THAT).
What makes '7' such a divine number?

Indeed, the number 70 is mentioned many times related to asking for forgiveness in both the Holy Qura'n and the Hadith, but I don't know why 70 in particular, of course you can ask more or less than 70 but I have no idea why 70 in particular.
the verse 9:80 is talking about some people mentioned in the verse before it 9:79 there is something you need to know related to that verse, and we will quite understand How the prophet Muhammad PBUH understood it.
there was a man of those who mentioned in the verse 9:79 called Abdullah bn Obi this man was dying and his son went to the prophet Muhammad PBUH asking him to come to ask for forgiveness for his father, the prophet went with him, and asked for forgiveness for the man despite of the verse 9:80, then people asked Muhammad why he did this despite the verse that make this prohibited?
the Prophet Muhammad said to them, the verse talks about 70 times and I asked Allah to forgive him 77 times, once again I was given the choice to ask or not and the prophet decided to do.
