I Was Shocked!

I am not mad but I think this person knows NOTHING about me at all to even ask me this. They messaged me and asked for $250 from me for their schooling! If they read anything about me at all on here they would know we are struggling really really bad for ourselves. They would know we cannot even afford to buy a Christmas Tree this year! I WISH I had that kind of money right now, I would help but I don't!! Would you message someone here you don't know at all and ask them for $250?

I feel for you there.. I also got this spam message from someone here. I guess they feel we have enough money for all. Take care there. I understand what you are going through there.

Yeah I was just really shocked by it. I will report them because I do not want to keep getting asked like that. They need to follow the rules here like everyone does.

It was atrocious on anyone's part to ask for monetary help. No one could send you a PM till you add him/her in your friend's list. Thus, you should be careful in adding friend with dubious details in their profile. You could delete this person forthwith so that he or she could not send a PM to you.

My suggestion is - please check the profile to see a user's discussions and responses and if you find that s/he is regular, you could add him/her. Discussions will give you fair idea about his/her interests.

I am definitely going to do that from now on. I was definitely not picky enough about who I added to my friends list. Lesson learned...

Yeah, I just add anyone that has over 10 by their name... Guess I should be more picky with who I add from now on. Before this, I had no idea they were like that. Now that I know he is off my list.

Yes there are. It is such a shame that there are people like this in the world. Scam artists. I did ignore the message and deleted them from my friends list. The crazy thing is after I deleted them they asked me to be their friend again on here! No way!

I would have reported that to someone here at the site. That is just something too unappropriate. Who knows what they really wanted the money for, they can say anything they want and you don't know them from Adam and Eve. They probably do this is many on this site, cause they will hope to get someone whose a sucker and give them some kind of $ eventually. I would never buy into it.

He has just made himself a nuisance in mylot and hope he knows that. Soliciting for money in mylot is not allowed. I think most of us here have big hearts and sympathize with genuine cases but so sorry the bowls are empty and we can't give from empty bowls. He has come to the wrong place to solicit for money.

Not only is this ridiculous but it's downright bold! Just what we need around here is people asking for donations for their college fund, when people can't afford to eat or pay their rent. What a jerk. I know they've been reported already so no sense even talking about that. What a crazy world we live in.

You are way too giving LMB. I know you like to help people and will do so if you can, but....see where you're at right now? You need to put money away for times like these but I'm sure you know that right now. It's great to help people but not when it is detrimental to your family. He might have read some of your discussions from a while back when you talked about how much money you received. Or, he could have went back into your history a bit and read it. I still find it hard to believe that he did this...it actually disgusts me because you don't even know him, and he obviously doesn't even know you. That's just another loser again..let him go find some financial aid from the college..not from you.
• Valdosta, Georgia
8 Dec 12
Yeah, I was a little shocked... It's not even like I have talked to them before. Like I told someone else, if I had extra money and people I am close to here like you I would help in a heart beat! I just don't have any money right now... I love helping people when I can. I wish he read some of my discussions before he sent that message, he probably would not have asked me if he did... I'm really not mad I am just very surprised!

Believe it or not I am not as giving as my husband is. You know what, yeah were struggling right now but I never regret helping. I sleep well at night knowing I did what we are called to do, help others. My kids have what they need. Do I want them to have a good holiday of course, is it needed? No. My faith in God is strong enough to know we will not go without what we need. Ever. Were good people and we do love helping but we would never neglect our kids to do so. I don't see anything wrong with being a giving person. When I die at least I know people will be able to say she was a good mother and a giving person. I deleted him off my friends list and he requested my friendship again! I did not accept this time I am not crazy!!

How Rude!! I cannot believe that someone would do that here. Well, yeah, I can. There are people like that. I wouldn't message anyone that I don't know to ask for money. It would be rude of me to do that. Message that person back and suggest that he/she apply for financial aid for their school. They can do their own research about that. You don't have to explain YOUR situation or anything. You don't owe that to the other person.

I thought it was rude too. I would never ask someone for money like that but that is just me! I don't like asking for help, I like helping. I have a hard time asking for help from anyone, but a stranger who doesn't even know me at all?? That just seems crazy to me! I am trying to go back to school too, which is why I applied for financial aid, otherwise I would not be able to go either!

Goodness, and i thought that emails usually tell us we have won or inherited a few million dollars waiting for us to claim and as soon as we send over the processing fees of 100 or so dollars we will get our millon dollars, but to downright ask for money and not a small sum at that, that is blunt..how did they know to contact you and why do they have the impression that you may have 250 to give, is it a random message or was it specifically targeted at you..

my feelings are hurt !!!..why wasnt i asked? not that i would have obliged ,but i feel slighted by the idea that he picked and chose but i didn't qualify, how could he? Oh right , i wasn't in his friend list i think...but i do have to give him credit for trying...but i doubt that he got anything ...even if he had managed to message genuinely kind hearted and generous MyLotters , they will smell the fishy stink and not do a thing,250 bucks wow! imagine if someone really gave it to him in response to his message, or two or more, LOL.. can't blame the guy for trying. BTW..please I NEED HELP ALSO...WANT TO SEND MY CAT TO OBEDIENT SCHOOL AND MY DASCHUND PUPPY TO GUARD DOG COLLEGE AND I CAN'T AFFORD IT, POOR CREATURES . FEEL SO BAD DEPRIVING THEM OF AN EDUCATION...I DON'T NEED 250 DOLLARS from each one,, JUST 50 BUCKS EACH WILL ADD UP NICELY ,YUP I CAN REALLY USE THE MONEY..oops,sorry, i mean my pets can really use the money!!!

Most people here in mylot would feel the same. And they have imposed an amount for you to give. What if such message would obliged someone else what would they demand next? And just a moment before typing this i came into a similar discussion posted by a newbie who is apparently not aware of mylot policy about this.

I have actually seen a similar post earlier today regarding asking some amount for her schooling. Maybe she was the one who sent you a message. I did not however, responded to the discussion coz I find it a bit off to be asking people bluntly about it. I mean, duh? She is obviously desperate that she didn't bother to think that she might sound ridiculous or even be thought of as a scammer.

Hi there ! Don't pay attention to that message , ignore that because it is a fraud nothing truth on it . It is just like your receiving a message in your mobile that you won a lottery , getting your information then asking you to deposit this amount for processing fees. Don't be convinced with this kind of message. Many bad people around doing everything just to have an easy money .

I don`t get shocked at this kind of things; I laugh. Noone I know would ask me for such an amount of money. Everyone knows I don`t have it. But many people think that they will get money by just asking it. Some people as wiser and ask for smaller amounts to more people. It makes me mad, but some of them get good results. It is the principle of begging.

From reading some of the other responses, it sounds like this person asked a lot of MyLot users for money. Obviously, they are only here to try and scam people by working on their sympathies to get them to send money. Hopefully, admin will ban the person from the site. I would definitely "unfriend" them if you haven't already. It's too bad that there are people like that in the world that try and take advantage of others. Scammers just seem to show up everywhere though.

that's why some members here don't accept FRs easily, especially from new members. they also check out the member's profile, the discussions they started and responded to, what they say, when they signed up. i saw that soliciting discussion yesterday and you can still see it in his profile. the reality is there will always be people looking for loopholes and will keep trying to get away with something, online or offline like going door to door, approaching you in public, or sending messages through text or email. when it doesn't work, they shrug and find another site, another person. for them, it's just another way to earn a living, the end justifies the means.
• Valdosta, Georgia
9 Dec 12
Yeah your right. I add everyone above 10 by their name... From now on I will be more picky with who I add on my list of friends. It is sad that they just prey on nice people, but I know some people are like that...

some people set it at 100 user rating or number of months membership. decide what works for you or what your instinct tells you. there are, after all, promising and interactive newbies that are welcome additions to mylot. i think most of us can tolerate someone sending an FR, but once the door is open, invite you to join a site and be their referral. those stuff are easy to ignore. they'll get the hint that silence means no.
