Taking a back seat

Be it a star, a sportsperson, or even you at some point in time it becomes necessary to take a back seat and be in the audience rather than perform. I took a back seat a long time ago. Don't get me wrong. I am neither a star nor a sportsperson but someone who always took the lead in many spheres both in family, office and in society. I feel I have done enough, earned enough accolades and it is time now to give someone else a chance. Don't tell me you are still there performing! And if so what makes you think that you still have a long time to go to take the back seat!Do justify!

In my profession I can not be a back seat person. How I wish I can...but then I don't take all the floor neither, my students need to practice the skills I am teaching them so I should be behind them for assistance and morale support. One day I will be a back seat person too, who wouldn't want to. It is more relaxing at the back just overseeing what is happening in the front while . Glad that you have passed the stage of a performer. and giving chance to others

There is no way you can take a back seat yet if you are in the teaching profession. You have to steer your students to a good future!

Yes indeed. They do need a driver's licence to go forward!

oh yes friend, but then I can not drive them always so I need to help them learn how to drive, that's why i am just beside them for now, the next time they should do it on their own, then I will just be at the back seat so I will leave them yet until they have driver's license and be on their own.

One of the happiest thing for me is when I've seen that a particular event or project becomes successful without letting the people know that I am the one who made an effort to make things possible. The person behind the success of everything is not unrecognized. But that was before. Presently, I am in a situation wherein I have to do something and the people know that I am the responsible person. I just think it is harder this way. More pressure on my part and it seems that there is no room for mistakes. Have a nice day!

You have the benefit when not announcing the effort you have put in behind a project inasmuch as should it be a failure you will be spared from embarrassment! Now that you have decided to come out in the open, as you said, you have to be extra careful!

you are a great person that knew what you are doing even no body know what you are doing and already made success the projects, i believe somebody knew that somebody else that made successed the project, and someone else knew too that you'r doing great. when all people know that you are the person whose in charge now, you should act like as usual what you are even lot of ppl now, know you'r incharge person for this, make them sure that you are the right person for this, dont gave them chance for commented on you.

I know I am in the "back seat"...my son always suggests I am a "back seat" driver! Realistically..NO, I am a MOR'er, "middle of the road" type person, when the need arises, I will take charge (accolades or no) and gladly step back if those of more acumen are leaders! I guess I am "yin" or "yang!" To me, really a situational calling!

HA! HA! HA! I've been known to "hit the ditch" a time or two...have a flat tire, or my steering fails...and times under my leading, the road has been bumpy...but we DO get there (wherever there is..LOL)! My highway of life is NOT paved! Yup..my friend, I can truly get away with back-seat driving...ONLY when relegated there by my dear son...and honestly, he does NOT have a problem, putting me in my place (backseat)! Backseat is a good place for me...not only driving..but flying, as you NEVER hear of an airplane backing into a mountain! (I am bad this morning, as I really don't feel like going to work!) You know the old expression; "after you, I come first!"

You play safe. Don't you? But for that one must have the talent to discern the situation - when to be at the steering wheel and when to take a back seas but certainly not back seat driving! which only means that you let others lead but nag from behind!

I think I have been in the back seat for too long and I need to be in the lead for a change. I have swallowed every insult I can get. And realized that not unless I do something about it, all those "noises" won't stop. So I have made up my mind to no longer be behind all of them. I need to step up and do what I should have done long ago.

Vow! That's great. You have now decided to perform - get on to the stage whatever stage that is. And you must show the world that you are not to be taken for granted. I remember those days when I too was sailing in the same boat. Then I said enough is enough and now looking back I am proud of the things I have done when I decided to push aside those that stifled me!

Hi friend, We must be our own critic to increase our performance, there is nothing wrong in taking back seat and watching our performance to improve it. Always we must think as a newbie and improve our performance to reach the high position

There is the aspiration to lead and when one is at the 'steering wheel' and has been there for a while it is time to think of giving up that position and take a back seat so that others get an opportunity to be there.

leaders need workers. but leaders should also mentor workers so that they can function independently when the leader isn't around. they should also be willing to try out suggestions from workers. some will be eligible to succeed them and even do better than them. some can become leaders in other spheres.

I fully agree with your view on how a leader can be successful. They can be successful only if they can effectively delegate also. Leaders will not last long if they project themselves and don't give others the chance to shine. Leading is an art and there are training courses to make one a successful leader if it does not come naturally.

Hi ak! Nice to hear that you were a leader and a star in the era gone by.. Although, am a modest person and I do not like to be in the lime light, yet when I need to perform I prefer to be in the front rather than on the back seat. For example in an official training course, I would like to be sit in the front row rather than sitting on the last row (and sleeping coolly).

I never said I was a star! Wanting to sit in the front row listening to lectures is not what I call 'front seat' position but leading and performing is! So you are a low profile guy. Fair enough. All don't like to be noticed.

Retreating oneself from the mainstream is quite appreciable. It gives an opportunity for the new set of generation.Going to the back seat does not necessarily imply oneself from being active in any vocation.

You are right. Withdrawing from the main stream certainly does not mean that one hibernates. There are so many interesting pursuits that one can follow which need not include leading another. Hobbies could be one of them.

hi a ll knowing I was never in the front seat so am very comfy here in my back seatl I wo ked for mant years caring for ill pe ople now I am retired and my lotting like crazy a nd I would never have liked the front seat the sp 9ot in the limelight at all. I am a shy person who likes small crowds and a few close friends. I h apppne to also be gthe leader in rank here at mylot just because I am retired and have lots os time an not mu ch else so I mylotted a lot.But I am uin the b ack seat always. Which is okay with me.

Those who choose the back seat are equally important to maintain the balance. Imagine if every one was leading there would be no followers nor would there be an audience if all were performers. Here in myLot we are on our own and whatever one does here is one's own effort.

it is necessary if you ask me because we cant take risk all the time and need to manage it quite convincingly for sure because there is a need to take the calm seat and relax

We all need to do that not just for us but for those who depend on us for getting the opportunity to lead and be on the 'driver's seat'!

Well, yeah. The back seat is my favorite since i am not some kind of performers nor a singer, and i am bad at it. So, for me it's somehow increase your confidence when doing such thing as performing in front of audience and i should do more of it.

You have taken the meaning of this topic literally. What I meant was when some are in a position where they lead or are in the front position for many years then it is their turn to step down and give others a chance.

In the family , i am aways in the back seat ! I learned to accept it though sometimes i am hurt . Though being in back seat it does not mean that i would be bitter for life and would let me love them less. I still love them and tried my best that though i am in the back seat , i will still shine ! Don't worry if you're in back seat , it means you are stronger and more confident than those in front. Cheers !

When one chooses to be in the back seat it is a nice feeling. If you feel you need to lead what is stopping you?
