Hi,mylotters, how was your weekend? There is an old saying in China,"A word spoken can never be taken back". That means that once you make a promise, you should keep it. That is very useful in our career, especially you are a leader. Any word or promise is not much good unless it is backed up. To make your plan or word mean something, you have to take action. And also, if you are a leader, once you made up a regulation, you have to reward the people who comply with your regulation and punish those who don't. Do you think so, that is all I get from my job. What's your idea about that?

I never make promises. A good leader or PR guy NEVER promises anything. Because if something falls the responsibility is yours.

There are lots of people that makes lots of promises and these people are the ones that are always the ones that never keep to their word. I would never promise a single thing to a person, if I knew that I could not keep that promise.

In India, we have a variation of the saying "A word from mouth and an arrow from the quiver will never come back!!" I think this is really useful advice for the career. These days more that the words it is the written content on emails and networking sites that are more dangerous. So people need to be really careful about what they put in these forums. Cheers! Ram

Actions speak louder than words, so the saying goes. With a promise, appropriate action should accompany it. It's not enough to just say that you want to do this for him/her. It's the fulfillment of the promise that truly matters.

We should also bear in mind to have one word, to any commitment we are encountering. Since it is really hard to retract a statement which we promise, the best thing we should do is to perform and do it in the very best that we can do to build lasting and genuine impressions to the people we meet in our lives.

I agree with your idea.so there goes another Chinese saying"Think twice before you do a thing".So it is with speaking. When we're having a talk,it involves at least two parties. So we should take into consideration what results our words can lead to on the hearer's part.If we can't bring our promise to realization, keep it to yourself.Or you'll become an untrustworthy person whose words can't be taken seriously.

THat sentence ids useful in every aspect of life. I think that it must be applied also when you are parenting. Children, and everybody, need consistency. It is very important that you know where you are and that occurs if you say what you mean and act by your words.

We have to take cAre IN a what it is we wish for . we just might get it and not know what to do with it. then a promise really can turn itself around.

I think that for everything that you say, you should back it up with an action. What is the use of imposing rules if you were to break them, right? I think that a good leader should not always set a good example towards its members, and be able to carry out the rules and regulations so that their would be harmony within the group.

Yes that is what a tongue can do. So one mustbe carefula nd watch his words. It can build or it can destroy. We should tame our tongues as well. Have a nice day!

One word is enough for a wise man. and yes, a leader must follow whatever he has said. However, there are some instances that his word should also be taken back, if the what he said will not be applicable to some certain policies and regulations. Example: All women should wear skirt, the leader said. but there are stairs to climb that will not be good for women to wear skirts for so many reasons. Then, it should be studied and refuted, if it is impractical to wear skirts. but philosophically speaking, yes, if the word is spoken even not leaders, even ordinary people it should not be taken back. If a person promise then it does not follow that it has to be broken. that's why people need to think a hundred times before saying it.

I think that's a very powerful statement. I've always considered it to mean much more than relating to promises. I consider it to also refer to unkind words that are spoken. We can say some awfully terrible things to each other. Afterwards, we can always say we're sorry. However, once the words are spoken, they will always be out there. You can never truly take back things that are said.
