Why is it facebook called facebook? I wonder why.

me too, I didn't know it that much. but the name itself, I think its like the compilation of friends' face acts actually as a book. but it's online, an online book of frinds' faces. :D

It was actually patterned after a printed or online directory of students in American universities which they call a face book. It's basically a list of the names of students and their picture.

There's a movie called "The Social Network" dealing with the story of how Facebook came about.In that,it was shown there were computer accessible photo student listings known as "The Facebook" which gave the creators the idea to compile them into a social website...

I think when you develop or invent a new thing, you are free to name it as you wish. Don't waste your mind on this unnecessary topic.

This also the question that pops out in my mind. I guess it's because it deals with different people connecting , interacting through out the world.

Hello alias_paul I also wonder why facebook is called facebook. I think facebook is called facebook because it kind of represents a public diary of one's daily life. I know it may sound corny but if you just think about it, you have the profile picture that most people tend to change on a daily basis to represent a new look of themselves and then a post a status of what they are currently doing which is kind like a an entry. Then they post picture's of places they went and the people they were with which is like the scarping book part of dairy. Only it isn't private like a dairy but its sort of like one that you can share with you family and peers. The idea of sharing their life with hundreds of people all at once is kind of thrilling. Also the idea of networking to get opportunities like job offers and updates on different things is also something people look forward to. In a weird sense we are all published authors, because our facebook is like your book of our lives. From game scores to telling the world that your bored. I will admit some individuals abuse facbooks and make people's lives hellish because they are bitter and looking to cause havoc. To me it kind of raises the percentage of cyber bullying and people being in everyone's business. I have a friend right now who insists on posting everything about her relationship and how much she loves her boyfriend..its cute yes but is also a overuse of facebook. She wants the world to know about the love of her life and then complains about how much is in her business and won't stay of it.

hi, my opinion here is because Facebook is full of face that we can treat it as a book,and aside from that when one of our friend have an event it will show his/her face or their pic instead of their names in Facebook,that is only my opinion.

Hi friend, all the online users have their facebook account and have idea about this site, in fact it is the address for most of the online users, we can keep in touch with our friends and contact them easily at any time using this site, we can keep contacts easily, share our photos and videos update status and comment in other persons status, it is some what similar to scrapbooking activities, so this site is called as facebook.
