Like the title says I'm probably getting a dog for christmas, but I'm wondering what dog would suit me the best?
More information
-We have a small living room, lets say 5x8 meters
-I'd prefer short fur
-A dog with little to none health issues
-I have a lot of spare time, so the dog will get a lot of attention
-Looking for an adorable and energetic dog
I was thinking of a labrador myself, but I want to hear some other opinions aswell.

What size of dog do you want? That is a good place to start. If you want a medium to large dog, do you have a large yard for your dog? Is it fenced? I would read all about the different breeds of dogs. My suggestion is to talk to dog trainers in your local area and ask them what is a good breed for someone who has never had a dog before. I would suggest you get a dog with a good temperament. Sometimes mixed breeds make the best kind of dog. In other words, a mutt. Mixed breeds are not so high-strung and don't have the health issues associated with a particular breed. My suggestion is to train your dog. Take dog training lessons. It doesn't matter the breed of dog if your dog (and you) are well trained.

Oh, how exciting! I myself am more of a cat person, but I think dogs can be really cute as well. I don't know a lot about dogs though, so I'm not sure if I can help you. Since you have a small living room, you might not want to get a big dog. It is great that you have a lot of free time for the dog, because they need a lot of attention.

When I read this, the first thing that popped into my head is a chihuahua. They are happy little dogs, with long or short fur. Although they can be hard to train. Try adobting a dog from an animal shelter where they already know their personalities. :)
