When buying a home is it a good idea, or bad idea to ask the sellers to pay the closing cost? I know that some home buyers do this but is it a good idea or not what is you're opinion?

I feel like there are a lot of factors that need to be considered when you are making an offer on a house and asking the seller to pay the closing costs. First of all, it you want the seller to pay the closing costs, it is important to make sure that the house that you are making an offer on is not an offer on an underwater mortgage. In addition to that, if you are going to ask the seller to pay the closing costs, you also have to make sure that the offer that you make on the house is not an embarassingly low offer.

It depends on the offer. I would not insult sellers by a really low offer and then ask for cc on top of that. Some sellers become very emotional about thier homes and a perceived insult will not get the best deal you can.
If you are reasonable in what you ask for it is perfectly ok to ask for Closing Costs..Realtors are used to this and often use it in negotiating a transaction whether they represent the buyer or seller...
