Lately I watched a Russian movie called Admiral Kolchak and it is a nice movie. However, I have completely no knowledge to the history of Russia at that time. Or I shall say that it is different from what I learned about it. Be sure this movie gives me a history knowledge about that age in Russia. It is somewhat shocking to me. Have you learned some history from any movies?

Hi youless, glad to learn that you have acquired knowledge related to Russia history at the same era. Yeah, I have learnt history of the same background of some movies I had watched before. Mostly history about China in Qing and Ming Dynasties. I'm watching a tv movie series about the fascination living of eunuch(tai jian) in the ancient palace. I can't help and surf web to get more info about the interesting history of the eunuch living at that time
Happy posting

I have seen a couple of movies that are based on the historical concepts of a country. Here in the Philippines, we do have some soap operas featuring the lives, cultures and behaviors of our ancestors hundreds of years ago. What's good about this type of genre is that people of all ages will learn from it.

Youless, i haven't watch that movie yet. Indeed by watching those historical movies, we can learned a lot about the history of that era. I do learned a lot about histories of many countries including my own country, The American revolutions, The European revolutions and even China's histories which i loved a lot. Since i have relatives living in China.

Yep, I did gain some historic infor from films, but not directly. For example, several years ago, I watched a movie named Beowulf. The movie was not totally based on history. Yet it intrigued me. So i searched on Internet and learned something in that era.

How the Americans got drawn into World War 2 always fascinated me, and that is why I wanted to see Pearl Harbor, and how the Japanese sided with Germany but both were defeated. I often wondered why Japan wanted to side with Germany, two totally different countries and yet they had some sort of connection. My father watches documentaries about the war all the time. I also enjoy the history of the Russians defeating the Germans on their territory, the Russians are used to the cold, and yet it was the cold that was downfall for the Germans, it wasn't the terrain they are used to.

I just saw recently a movie directed by Angelina Jolie called "In the Land of Blood and Honey". And it's actually a not so long ago history, it is a war in Bosnia in 1992. The movie was heartbreaking, watching how those soldiers treated their captured women. I talked to my husband about it and he said it was so much more than that. And I read comments from the people who survived the war, they said the movie brought back a lot of memories and pains...very sad to read.

people also do everything in order to learn and entertained. movies are one of those ways to learn and entertain as well, like you. you watched a russian movie and you learned something in history. that's nice. but you also need to read books, because they give full information, whereas movies give a lil bit of information :)
