Our new house - The main bedroom, whicxh we will make into a formal dining room

No, I'm not back lol, just visiting briefly. For those of my friends who might be interested, I thought I might update the interstate move. Our intention was to rent for six months and have a good look around, but had an absolutely horrendous time getting a rental, mainly due to the fact that the agent we were working with wanted only millionaires for a $235 pw house lol - or so it seemed from the hoops they wanted us to jump through, so we went looking for someone else and stumbled across a deal that seemed too good to be true. I discovered tonight that the house we stumbled across had been dropped in price twice, in total $50,000 down, and that original figure is what we thought the house was worth, so getting it so much cheaper seemed too good to be true. I flew down to have a look, stayed there for two nights, and made a firm offer the second day. Instead of renting, we are now buying. I wish I could add more than one pic to this post, but one will have to do for now. Anyway, in 7 weeks to the day we will take possession. Lash PS what the blazes is wrong with MyLot tonight? I had to put this discussion in this category because most of the other categories refuse to load up.

Congrats! I looked at the view and looks like pastoral surroundings...seems like you fought the good fight, and won with this one! Is it a long move, from your current residence! Worth the wait and sorry you had to deal with the monster! Nice to hear from you! And "season's best" as we will know you will be busy moving@

The kind of setting that would enhance your creative writing! I love the rurality of the location..a bit like my setting here on the Island! I have nearly three acres..and just barely see the house of my neighbour! (The more I love my animals...the less I like people..LOL)...and I am with you, scooping up the adjacent lot! Am I seeing two fireplaces in this gem? Looks very well attended and bright and airy. Love it!

It has been beautifully restored. 1939 original construction. It's also in a Green party electorate which will suit us politically. Lash

4646 Hallway - The hallway in our new house
2500 kms (1500 miles). And yes, it's very pastoral, almost as far south as you can get in Australia and surrounded by old growth forest, orchards, and a river. Lash

The only thing certain about plans is that they never go exactly to plan! Congrats on the purchase, it looks like a nice little place. Very stylish and homely. Well, at least now you will not have to move in another six months time. You can just settle in and relax! Good luck with the rest of the move and I wish you well for the holiday period too.

That's for sure. We have had lots of things cause us trouble in the process but now things seem to be going just fine. I think we will actually get a bit of a holiday out of our trip and that will be nice because we have not had one for years.

it looks good. once you have spent the time looking for a rental property you have done a lot of research on the local housing market, and know the area better, and buying, instead, becomes easier. seems like a good choice to me.

Actually not, there will be a fence put in before we take possession, although if the other lot is still for sale in 6 months we will probably buy it. Lash

It is very neat and as Bill said quite stylish too. The polished wooden floors are a lovely colour. It looks as neat as a pin too - inside and out. I would be planting trees really soon too. Congrats! I'm so happy for you both.

Trees and a hedge fence are very early on the agenda. In August, if the adjoining block is still available, we may snap it up as well. Lash

Hmmm it is such a lovely house, I fell in love with it on line and still look at the pics to convince myself I am not dreaming. It seems like my dream house even though I have only seen pictures. I hope that the town works out alright as well but at least the distances in that area are much smaller than here so we will never be too far away from a city if we need the outlet. I have even looked at the house on street view to see what the surrounding area looks like and it looks fine. A forest across the road and the sea nearby, water and trees which suits me fine, an ideal place to grow old in.

The picture on street view does not include people and any possible link to one such as number plates are blocked out for privacy but it was nice to have a look at the surroundings. It feels strange to me to have bought a house I have only seen pictures of but I trust my partner and he has been there. I just can't wait to move. I think it will do both of us a lot of good.

that sounds good! street view is quite a good way of looking at an area, i find, did you check what the neighbours looked like?

Is that a real fire place? Wow! You new place really looks very cozy and I am happy for you. With the Christmas holidays approaching, I believe this is a smashing Christmas present for everyone at home. I hope that the house would be ready for the entire family to host the celebrations. Congratulations! And a merry Christmas to you in advance.

Well, buying is almost always better than renting. Hopefully, your new home will turn out to be wonderful. I am still looking forward to the day that my boyfriend and I can buy a place. When we came here, we were on the border of being able to buy, but that would have required everything to go just right. Unfortunately, it didn't; so, we are still renters rather than owners.

Hi,lash! Nice to see you, however brief it might be. Congratulations! You got a real good deal. And the house is great looking. I love the corner windows. My favorite architecture styles, for houses, are from the 1920's to 1940's. And you have fireplaces! Wow! As I read the responses I got to see a different pic with almost each one. The setting looks ideal - beautiful country all around. And I think that's a good idea to buy the adjacent lot. So many people never do and they end up with something right next door that they didn't bargain for. Or want. I wish you much luck in your new abode and I hope you're always very happy there. I'm looking forward to you coming back to mylot on a little bit more of a permanent basis. Maybe in the new year? I've missed you. Thanks for droppin' in. Good luck!
