As i watched our local news today, fund raising campaign for our brothers and sisters who were victims of the recent typhoon have been soaring high to millions. Yah, other organizers proclaimed they have reached cash in bank in millions already. This is so great to hear and so heart warming to feel the generosity and kindness that our fellowmen have extended -globally. In behalf of my countrymen, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the donors for all the help and love - may it be cash, materials, things, support and prayers. Thank you from our bottomless heart. And from the victim side, this is our prayer for I was once a victim of tragedy, we prayed that what is due to be given will actually reached to the very home of the victims. I am a victim of a great tragedy that happen in the year 1991, a great flood wipe out our town and took more or less 8,000 lives in just a blink of an eye. As I look back that very day, I thought it was the day the world will end and Noah's great ark will come out for all i could see is a huge muddy water with tremendous current that covers all houses.
It was the longest days of our lives and our place is just like a City of the Living Dead. All around you can see dead people, young and old, damage properties and a 4 feet elevation of muddy soil. I experienced taking the longest line I could ever imagine in my life. A line for survival for food and water. Relief operations started in the morning and being serve in the afternoon, just to get a relief goods and donations. One day, there was a relief good distribution of rice and american canned goods and imported blankets from UN to be given as they broadcast, so I hurriedly again lined up early, and for long I waited to get my pack containing 3 kilos of NFA kind of rice, 3 pieces of dried fish unwrapped and with a dirty as in used dirty foot socks on it. When I saw the contents, I got speechless and my tears drop instantly but yet i said thank you to the person who gave me. But God, it truly broke my heart as to what kind of person ever did such packing - putting a dirty sacks on the food intentionally? I just turned my back sobbing and prayed wish it wont happened to the person who ever did it what I have been through. Its been 21 years now, but if i remember that day it truly made me cry. It was hard but we don't have a choice but take it and eat. I hope they will still remember that victims are still "humans".
From the start to the finish of the relief operations, we never received any thing other than NFA rice, dried fish, generic drugs with a near expiration date and sardinas with unimaginable kind. Imported goods and imported blankets - none at all. I truly pray that what is due to be given for the unfortunate victims of the calamity will be sincerely given with care and love for it is so hard to be a victim of a calamity.
When we want to give and share, cash or kindness, give it with sincerity and love, otherwise don't give at all if not to be shared with genuineness of helping.
