The Bishop's Wife

Bishop Henry Brougham(David Kniven) is struggling to raise money for a new cathedral and his marriage is suffering because of it. He asked for guidance and his prayer is answered by an angel coming to teach him a lesson in romance. This is a heart warming movie with a cast of Loretta Young, Cary Grant and David Kniven. It is one of my must sees for the season. Henry begins to think that Dudley(Cary Grant), the angel, is there to replace him both at work and in his families affections. And Dudley finds he is having some unangelic feelings for Julia(Loretta Young), the bishop's wife. He realizes that when an immortal begins to enjoy a mortal that is a danger signal. This movie was released in 1948 and is 109 minutes long. I found the last few words very poignant. 'Loving kindness, warm hearts and a out stretched hand of tolerance. All the shining gifts that make peace on earth'. Sounds to me like it could be said in 2012. Have you seen this movie? Do you watch black and white ones? Your thoughts.

I saw bits and pieces of that one, but never saw it all the way through. I love old movies, and Cary Grant is one of my favorites...

A real classy classic with an unbeatable cast. Several years back there was a remake with Denzel Washinton and Whitney Houston that was dreadful in comparison. Original film classics such as The Bishop's Wife, Miracle on 34th Street, and It's a Wonderful Life should never be remade as they are eternally great.

That sounds like a good movie maybe something I would like and something my husband wouldn't like. He doesn't like old movies are ones that come in black and white. I love old movies though. I'll have to see how I can watch that one. Maybe rent it or something. Didn't see it on Netflix.

Indeed The Bishop's Wife has a good plot and an interesting movie as presented. I would say it's a must see for younger generations; I knew it's worth seeing given the cast who are known far and wide. In my days, I never let good movies pass. We treated foreign ones just like our locals. In the early 50s up to the late 60s, we witnessed films in jampacked movie houses, in standing fashion and with our bodies sweating all over with perspiration, especially in their first showing. Thanks to the advent of the TV, we now see films we liked in the comfort of our homes. The cinema houses are now things of the past.

Wow. That was released 2 years before I was born. I wonder if that might be on Netflix. I might want to watch it. I like some older movies.
