Always remember that you can't force a person to show you respect, but you can always refuse to be dishonored and disrespected. I always give respect to all people I know though some might dishonor or disrespect me. Please share your views and comments on this. Kalyani December 12 2012.

You're right. I also always show people respect. We cannot demand people to respect us. If we demand for it, it will only make the situation worse and definitely you will never get it. Nowadays, people are are very nasty. We can't even tell them off eventhough they are wrong. So sad!

I respect people who respect me and those who deserve to be respected. I can never respect people who don't respect me. I can only ignore them or give them my deadly glare. I hate disrespectful people but I don't go out of my way to disrespect them. That's just inappropriate and by then I would be no better than them if I do such things. Always do the right thing. It's simple and not easy to do.

Humanely speaking, we cannot bring ourself to respect many people. Like you said, to respect people despite of their attitude or character is something. To me, this is what really brings out the character in us. Personally, for me, respect is to be earned, not demanded or forced on. It is about stature and not status.

We are all human beings with different appearance and opinions. We have different attitudes and personality and with all those different I believe we all must give due respect to everyone. I agree you must disapprove someone portraying disrespectfulness to you. I really hope my fellow citizens is respected in different countries. Racial discrimination also entrails disrespect

There are really some people who are disrespectful. Maybe they are brought that why or influence by the environment. I always respect people but sometimes it is hard to deal with people who are rude. I just ignore and avoid them. Have a nice day!

Good values is not taught, it is being learned. It starts at home. Respect is one of the good values we must learn and share to everybody. But, how can we start with it? Simple yet hard for some, let us start it with our selves. Showing respect within us would naturally show and affect to people that surround us.

My parents taught me to show respect from the time that I was a baby and for that reason I show all people respect today. I also really appreciate it when a person shows me respect. However, I do see that there are a lot of people that don't have the habit of showing respect to everyone that they encounter in their lives. It is people that don't know how to show respect that drive me up the wall. Their parents should have taught them better manners than that.

It is a good thing to show others honor and respect. It can be hard to do to those who show us disrespect. I think in situations like that we have to try really hard to adjust our attitude and be the bigger person. It's not easy though.

It is at hard times to do though. Especially if we are treated this way over and over again. Then our patience can start to give in. We have to keep trying though even for our own peace of mind.

Kalyni2011 Yes, respect is earned, and can not be demanded..of course there are some people who will resent us for telling the truth and we can't compromise your standards to please anyone.

Hi Kalyni2011, I agree with you on this. Respect must be earned, so no one can really demand respect from others but anyone can refused to be respected. If respect must be earned, there should also be a reason why one should disrespect one person, if there's no valid reason, then you have all the right to defend yourself as a human being.

Well in my opinion,I think the respect is interactive,if you want to get more respects from others then you should respect them first, vice versa. So usually I always respect other and willing they will do the same way to me,and if I do not get the good result then that is OK because I had done what I should do.

For us to be able to be respected, we should also respect others and I think all people must respect each other. They said respect is a package of love so if we are loving someone we should respect him or her too.

Hi Kalyni2011. My worst experience last year was when my sister's young boy (19) showed total disrespect towards me in the presence of others. I was mostly hurt when I noticed that his mom did not do anything to correct or discipline him. 'My children have freedom of speech', she voiced...

I have been told by my father when I was a kid that if we want others to respect us, we must first respect others. At first I don't get the idea. Later on when I have grown up, then only I understand what he meant. Other people surround us is just like mirror, they reflect us. When we do good to them, they also will do good to us (some of them not). So, when we respect other people, then they will reflect back by respecting us. This concept can be apply to any case. But we have to be smart so that our kindness not been taken advantage by others. About being disrespect or dishonor, I think it's up to them how they want to value me. As long as it doesn't effect me in my daily life, I won't bother about them.

I know most of the relatives not respect me and telling some wrong words behind me but I feel happy because for me this is not important what they are saying but this is important they are remembering because telling about me. I am talkative and frank women and I think everyone is good if I am good even they are talking about me behind me.

Hi I agree. What ever we do that always reflects. If we give respect others will definitely give it back. And when we are positive from our side others will definitely notice it and also the surroundings will be in good spirit.

I am also in your sort. Always respect all the persons. As you mentioned we don't force others to give respect to us, it is their own wish. But decent people always respect other persons without asking it from them.

Yes, it is best to be kind back. To maintain being professional and polite. I like that: to refuse to be dishonored and disrespected. We can return meanness with kindness. When does it stop if we are disrespectful to those who are disrespectful. Many people have turn around from their meanness when confronted with kindness.
