Kids already uses and own phone as early as 7 years old. Maybe because kids are too smart and knows how to use the phone at early age. I saw kids at age of 5 knows very well how to use it. Besides, teaching small kids to use the phone is very helpful in case of emergencies.

I got a call from my five-year old goddaughter just two days ago. She knows how to call because her mom assigned digits for emergency number. Kids nowadays are as techie as adults.Sometimes, they can learn how to manipulate gadget more easily than adults. My mom received her cellphone as a Christmas present in 2002 and until now she doesn't know how to send sms and she hardly uses it to call our relatives because she always forgets what key to press when calling even though the names of her contacts appear on the screen.

I got my first mobile phone when I was 24 years old. And it was the very first mobile phone, the heavy one! My eldest got his at 10 years old. He OBLIGED my sister to give it to him as a gift. And then my other two sons asked for the same when they reach 10 years old, too! That made me really happy!

Wow, is it a smart phone? LOL. If it is, I envy your brother. Haha. My phone isn't a smart phone yet. LOL. Imagine a nine year old kid having a smart phone... I hope he will just use it for playing games, listening to music, making snd receiving calls and sending text messages and nothing more. LOL.

Oh, smart phones are not advisable for kids. He's so young to own one. He might just drop it or leave somewhere. LOL. It's good you didn't buy him one.

Well, there are more affordable phones now unlike before when the market was sort of monopolized by the big companies from the US, Japan and Finland. I know how you feel, though. I bought my first phone when I was in college already. My parents felt that it was an expensive gadget to give when I was younger. And like you said, the technology has really made it easier for even a 9-year old to use.

Oh yes, I totally agree. Besides more affordable phones, there are also various options for phone subscription plans. Actually, pre-paid options are also available nowadays. The technological advancements with cell phones has been quite quick paced over the last ten years.

I have to say that I think that your brother is a little too young to have a phone of his own. You see, my daughter just turned ten a couple weeks ago and she doesn't have a phone of her own yet and it will still be a couple more years before I feel that she will be old enough to have a phone of her own. I see other children that are her age running around with their own cell phones and I have to say that it really is something that does bother me.

Wow, that is kinda young for someone to have a phone. I hope he takes care of it and understands the true value of it, he will need to be careful with it, but I guess this has probably been explained to him. I can't keep up with technology myself, I just have a very basic Nokia phone, I don't like mobiles to be honest, they are too intrusive, the only reason I got one was if I broke down in my car and I could call the breakdown people but other than that I hardly ever use it.

Yeah that is something very common these days. Some parents felt the need for small kids to have their fone. Because it is their way of communicating with them especially when they're out in the school. Kids of today are very lucky. And you are toosince you got a fone when you;'re 15. I got my own fone when I'm in I think 19 or 20 already.

Hi I am not sure how long ago you were 15, ut what I do know is that almost every child is getting phones much younger than they use to. My grand son has had a phone since he was 7 because he was going to an after school program and his mother and I always wanted to stay connected to him because he was so young...he is now 13 and have graduated to an Iphone..his second one of those... Life evolves and we have to evolve with it...

Hi ungu89, what a lucky brother you got there I got my first mobile phone when I was 18. I guess with the booming of technology, kids these days are becoming more aware of it at such an early age. There really is nothing wrong with that just as long as they are properly guided.

Well firstly if you just compare you with your little brother I think that does not make any sense, because things changes, people changes,so I think that your mum surely has the reason. Then I think the problem is,is it really good to give a cellphone to a 9 years old child?Because in my mind I think that the radiation will do harm to the kids, and it really bad for their health.

oohh.. radiation??? why we still here??? hehe it just a long term side effect. that why i love texting rather than calling i know that my little brother and i were different, he born in 2000 and i in 89. hahah.. there will be always differences between us

haha :) I feel the same way. I had a phone when I was 16 I think? And it was just a pass-item. (owned by older siblings) It was just a 2nd hand. Now my niece who is 4 years old already have a touch-screen phone and she just use it for playing. :/ But true, it's going to be helpful is used properly. At the phone they have installed mind-games, educational applications that can keep her mind active. They also have told her that if the unit will be thrown/fell or be used carelessly, it would be broken and they can't afford to buy another. So my niece will also learn to keep it safe . Hehe :)

Hi friend, yes, technology is very much improved now. Good to know that you got your first phone from your uncle as a gift for your talent. In this days, little kids under 5 years have the ability to operate the phone in a good manner as well as they are interested in spending their time with phone. So there is no wonder in 9 year old boy having his own phone

We are in the new era of technology. Phone is just nothing nowadays. I remember, I got my first cellphone when I got my job as a caregiver. That time I am still scared to use the phones lol... however today, like my kids 6 and 2 respectively, they used phone already and they good of talking in the phone.
