When I was preparing my food for today, I popped a piece of carrot in my mouth and started chewing. I tried to swallow but the carrot just stayed on the back of my tongue and opening to my throat. It scared me a little bit cause I tried and tried to swallow. I tried not to panic and got a glass if water and was then able to swallow it down. I guess my mouth was too dry at the time. I should drink done water first thing in the morning.
Have you ever had trouble swallowing? If yes, how did you handle the situation. I can't seem to swallow when my mouth is dry.

I've never experienced that. I can swallow my food although before I did not even drink water. Usually the food caught in my throat if I eat in a hurry.

I have had trouble swallowing several times. One time we were at Sizzler and I was eating steak then. I had chewed a bite enough I thought and went to swallow. I couldn't. I was getting to the point of choking and I did panic. I spit some out cause I couldn't swallow it. It was embarrasing and I haven't eaten steak there again since. Salmon is better for me anyway. lol

It's easy for me too. I like salmon and tuna. That is scary when you feel like you are going to choke. I have to cut steak and roast beef very small in order to eat it.

That happens to me if I eat too much. I have just a pouch for a stomach and I do best if I eat just 4 to 6 ounces at one time. If I eat more than that it hurts in my chest when I swallow.

When you get up in the morning, a cup of warm water will good for your health and help you swallow. If I FELL hard to swallow, I will drink some more water to help me swallow. have a nice day.

Thanks for your advice Betty. I drink water without ice most of the time but never just drank it warm.

I'm not swollen there. I think it is just when my mouth is dry I can't swallow. Once I take a sip of liquid I can swallow fine.

drank water, or sip it out. Anything dry can do that. It doesn't happen often for me though.

Hi Sid. I think it happens to a lot of people. I have to keep water by my bed because sometimes I can't swallow my own saliva. I have to take a sip of water and then I'm okay.

Luckily you didn't choke on the carrot. Now you know to always drink water first thing in the morning and when you feel thirsty and before you eat anything. I think it's best to drink water as often as you can.
I don't think I've ever had the experience of not able to swallow my food. I hope it'll never happen to me. I would probably panicked if it happens to me and would just throw out the food instead of trying to swallow it forcefully.

Yep. That was scary for sure. I now get a glass of ice water when I get my carrot out if the fridge.

Well, to be honest, I, fortunately for me, I have not had a problem like that. (At least with food)
However, this thing of not being able to swallow, to me only happens when I try to take a pill without drinking water to swallow it.
Then if it were a capsule, then it is worse. Happens in that case (and to me has already happened several times), that the capsule is going to open my throat, then I spend about four hours with the oral apparatus almost paralyzed, and for the most part, in a situation like wanted to vomit.
Now for a long time, fortunately I do not need more than having to swallow the capsules, but still, I remember those bad experiences!

I can't swallow s pill dry like that either. I used to do it easy when I was younger. I guess things don't work as well now that I am older.

When I have been so tired during the previous day especially if I talked to much or had a singing spree, it also happened to me. The other cause is when I have cold. What I would usually do is that I gargle with warm water. Drinking plenty of water is one of the best solution to this problem.
Have a nice day!

I agree that water helps. It helped me right away this morning.
