let's just say i am letting some steam off..
lol one officemate ( new and young ) was asked to go and buy some white gloves for our christmas presenatation dance... then she went off with another young employee.. they came back after two freakin hours when in fact the shop was sooo near..anyways, my supervisor asked if they were able to buy and they said NONE!
I was asked to call them while they were still at the shop and no one was answering! Only to find out when they arrived they left their freakin phones.. i mean what the..they should have bring it with them so that when they found out there were no gloves they could call US here in the office and they could ask permission to go to another shop and buy the gloves.. not they have to come back the office empty handed after TWO freakin hours and then go back again and buy the gloves in another direction. How unproductive and waste of time is that???
does it comes with the age?? well i do not think so... i have the initiative and the mind to decide.. i cannot help but tell them they should have brought their phones with them i mean thats what mobile phones are for right? not just for freakin show. duh. lol i cannot help but get pissed off hahaha.. and my supervisor was pissed too so in return she told me to go and buy it in another shop and was able to buy it after 30 minutes! tsk tsk..
and now i logged in to facebook and i saw that young employee's status saying she is pissed lol

I agree with you, it has nothing to with age. I have an office mate who had been scheduled for roving inspection of the branches we were servicing. That day I called him up several times because I had concerns with him. He did not answer his phone and he did not call me up in the office to inform me of his whereabouts and granted that he left his mobile, he still can call us via land line. He finally called me up the next day to say he left his mobile the other day and when I asked what areas he covered the previous day, he mentioned the areas where he was not seen by our employees. I did not mention to him we traced his whereabouts that he did not actually reported for work.
Point is, no matter how young or old someone is, when it comes to work, the presence of mind should be practiced and it isn't so hard to find ways to resolve some minor problems such as communication.

Great
Wait. Agent theSids has a few questions here mam()...
1. You mention - one officemate ( new and young ) and then - another young employee - you did not tell us who is this second one? A Male? or Female?
2. They forgot their phones at the office - the phones are not good when you are with friends... keeps disturbing and bothering you...
3. Why did you get it in 30 minutes? If they took 2 hours and came back empty handed, you too should have taken at least an hour or more... But maybe you did not have a friend with you.... this is why the status on FB was changed...

What... You and a Guy on the motorcycle and still returned back in 30 minutes! I would have driven for a while... maybe on the highway... and on the way back asked you for a MUG of coffee and you would not have denied that... after all it is Christmas Season...

I would have been mad, too, if I was in your place. They definitely deserved to be scolded or something like that. What was their explanation for taking that long when it just took you 30 minutes, which I'm guessing is a place farther than where they went?

hi jazel juean no indeed as initiative can be fo und in people of all
ages from 20 to 80 and I worked until I wasalmost 80 and could be
depended on to do whatever task was needed in the library . I
retired at 79i with an excellent work record and not everyone
can say that. So iniatitive can be found at any age.

It looks like a case of time theft. They took some sweet time off probably to do some window shopping. Maybe that is why the phone was left behind. I think this kind of behavior revolves around ones attitude towards life and got nothing to do with age.

or someone who doesn't listen at all.. i guess she left it on purpose because she is lazy enough not to call us and tell us there were no gloves and she would not be asked to go and buy it somewhere.

If i were there, i would certainly be pissed also, Jazel. Imagine 2 hours, and then came back with nada! They could have called the office even in a landline phone so they could be directed to another store.
Certainly, initiative doesn't have to do with age. Even small kids have initiative.
She was pissed because she was reprimanded.

true and i guess she was pissed off at me because i really tend to point out simple mistakes such as that so that they will learn.. its like they does not know a thing at all or they do not like to learn at all.. boggles the mind.

That's really iritating having someone that you know that you can rely on small task or even on such a easier task and at the end it just a waste of time that you give them a task and still your the one who done it as well. I think age does nothing to do without having an initiative sometimes they forgot using what's inside their head.

I wonder if you had considered that they are being inexperienced and immature to begin with. It is common especially when young people in this generation are being pampered and spoiled.
On the subject of initiative, I think your supervisor and you have a slight shortfall when either one of you could have told her where to get it and not take for granted and assume that she knows. If either of you had done so, then I don't think this incident would have happened.
At their end, I have to admit that they are not without blame when they wasted 2 hours and came back with nothing. Two heads should be better than one but it is not so in this case. Forgetting their cellphones, whatever happened to adapt and improvise where they could simply access a public payphone to call the office and ask for directions after 30 minutes. I find them disappointing and wonder if they are really a solution to the office at all.

I don't think age has something to do- it's the attitude.
I can say that my son is young for his age (he's 14) but he knows what to do or at least has initiative.
Sorry about your colleagues dear- they're so immature..lols

It was really inappropriate that way,to think that your boss gives you a very simple task and yet you cannot make it and the worst is,they didnt make anything to contact you, even if they forgot the phone they can atleast use landline.

Hi jazel, sometimes occurrences like that really transpired in most of every office environments (either public or private entity) - it's actually a common part of our daily tasks inside the workplace on how to surpass pressures not only to the job assigned to us but likewise to our associates or colleagues as well. Everyone has its individual expectations in terms of work efficiency and capacity in the job undertaken. However, some instances could triggered our good mode eventually changed its form into a bad one and definitely ruin our entire day of work. Well, handling such kind of issues were actually derive on our personal motivational drive - on how we precisely handle the same in a proficient and professional manner without putting any harm to ourselves and to others. Wish you could extend your long-patience and professionalism to them for the benefits of your rapport as colleagues which working in the same environment. Wish you all the luck in life...
