Lately I made lovely chicken croquettes for someone's birthday. It is time consuming but I liked to doe it for my good friend. At the party someone asked me what I made and what was in it. So I explained. The woman looked at me and then said "Ah! Mcnuggets!" Another time I had a lovely recipe for pork chops covered with whipped cream with 2 (expensive!) sorts of cheese, mutard and other things. You put them under the grill till it looks nicely brown. I had 2 friends coming over for dinner and guess what? They needed ketchup and mayonaise!! These things really make me go mad. Can't people appreciate good food anymore? Can't people appreciate you make quite some effort to serve something special?

What is wrong with someone asking for ketchup and mayonaise. Have you stopped to think maybe this is how they like eat what you made. That doesn't mean they dont' appreciate what you have cooked. It's like when I cook some people like butting things on it and that is fine with me it doesn't hurt my feels or make me made because that is the way they like to eat it. I like stake sause with my stakes and it doesn't matter who cooks it.

It's a pity that you don't get my point. I already MADE something special. And people still need additives? If I cook normal menu for lunch or dinner, I don't mind wht people add. But in this case it felt as an insult. It's like (for instance) your man wears a nice tuxedo and you insist he wears a baseball cap with it!

No I get your point it's just stupid to get all worked up over someone wanting something extra with there food. I don't care who cooks me food or who I cook for it's normal to had ketchup and stuff with certain food. It's call growing up and getting over it and not getting worked up over silly childish things especially when your an adult. One your example would make logical sence and if my husband wanted to wear a tuxedo with a baseball cap I would careless. It's his body he can wear what ever he wants to wear weather I like it or not. I don't tell him how to dress he is a grown man. I don't even tell my one year how to dress she picks her own things.

If you think that the under appreciated efforts are bad , what can be worse is that your dish is actually compared to fast food joints or other restaurants that serves similar thing that you have cooked up from sweat and passion and a desire to pleas. Remarks like " taste good but you should have added more of this or that so that it can be comparable to the croquettes you can find at that so and so place.." at the end of the day , you just cant please them all,so whenever i cook up my favourite "devil curry" or just like you " croquetes" i just ignore what comparison remarks there may be but tune in to the ones that praises the food, or just obviously likes it, the expression on their faces when they taste my cooking and go back for 2nd helpings is gratifying and reward enough for me., And yes, just like you , "hey nuggets, lovely " or even Croquettes ,, did you buy them at that store, ? " well. tempted to say, "no of course not , you ignoramus, this is manna from heaven , i prayed and it just fell down from the sky."

You're absolutely right and I should take more notice of the good comments. It's just that the 'bad comments' really are painful and stay longer with me. Of course; croquettes are basically fast food as well. But NOT fast made. That's why they taste muc better Those pork chops however are made with a special addition that is really lovely. That's why the tomato ketch up and mayonaise really were an insult. No mere and defenitely no less.

It's a shame that some people can't appreciate good cooking anymore.I would have been really offended if something I had spend a long time and a lot of effort cooking had been compared to Mcnuggets. I have to say that the pork chop dish sounds absolutely delicious and I definitely wouldn't have asked for ketchup or mayonaise. In my opinion sauces are for foods that are bland which your recipe definitely was not the recipe you sounds very falvoursome.

For people who loves to cook, I think there is. They are the people like you, who wants to try good food for a change. I have not tried Mcnuggets though, but I think it's more fun eating it if we are the one who makes it. I think some people especially the young are influenced by the foods served at fast food restaurants, where condiments are already placed in the table in case the customer wants to add something to it like mayonnaise/ketchup especially for fried dish. I'm sorry to hear that your friends had not appreciated your efforts, I just hope it won't happen again next time.

There are many other food outside McD of course. it's just that many people are more concerned with the brand/retail rather than the effort to cook raw food into ready to eat and healthy food. I always send an easy to follow recipe to my boyfriend because he's not a fan of fast food. He prefer to cook at home, but sometimes he had to suppress his ego when his nephew/niece asked him to be taken to McD or KFC.

Hi, I can understand you, they are just so familar with the taste of the fast food in the fast food restaurant , they will never try to cook the food at home like you. I like to try to cook food like you, too. I bake biscuits and cakes at home, and I send them to my friends, luckiky for me, they appriciate my desserts and sing high praise for them, I am so happy about that.

Fortunately I do have friends who appreciate it a well. But I noticed it's the younger generation that seems to prefer fastfood above quality. It's a sad thing.

I understand what you mean. A lot of people's taste buds have been so skewed toward the rubbish served up at fast "food" joints that they cannot appreciate actual food. People who cook from scratch and/or who dine in good restaurants will get what you are saying; the ones who don't do those things, though, likely won't.

Hi Franseman, I like to cook even though I am male. I donot like to eat at McDonald as in India they don't have any menu to talk about. All they have is few burgers and couple of ice creams. Yes I know kids these days would rather go to KFC or Nirula's here than eating at home. People do appreciate good food but they are so used to artificial taste of sauces and fats that they have to put them to find taste in it. At my home I usually don't put the sauces on dining table unless we are eating junk food.

it seems fast food trend has changed people's appreciation towards delicious home made food. according to your story above. ugly truth & sad.. majority people are so used to the image that McD & other fast food franchise created.. burgers, patties, nuggets, sundae.
