hi mylotters.what do you think of your office boss?i have worked with many different bosses in my company and some you want to remove their eyes in anger others you like so much.i had a lady boss who was so understanding after i got my baby and even let me go home early for the first few months to be with the baby.then much later i worked with such a bad boss who did not even want to give you time off to do personal issues, she believed in you working till you were brain dead and never even appreciated what i did and yet she kept getting the glory for the profits made.do you think men or ladies make better bosses and whats your experience like, best or worst?

This is a natural fact of life. Irrespective of the position held by someone there shall always be a wide variety of people with different attitudes towards others.
It can also depend to some degree on how the boss views you as an employee. If they consider that you are a valuable asset then they will make a greater effort to help then someone they consider less useful.

asylum what i was putting across is some bosses go out of their way to be mean and nasty irregardless of what you do. i had a boss who relied on me to do for her reports plus i controlled most of the operations in the office and she relied so much on me but this is still the person who turns and is nasty to you, back stabbing and hurting your feelings .its not an issue of work its just a personality thing where the boss decides to be a good or bad person.

Yes, I understand exactly what you are referring to pomwango. The quality of your work and the commitment to give to the company is not always what the boss actually sees and realises. An excellent employee can be misconstrued as poor by the boss while a lazy or useless employer is considered valuable, which is what I was intending to convey.
I do agree that the standard of work is not the only factor in each case. The position of being in charge carries a lot of responsibilities, which includes a level of responsibility to behave appropriately towards other members of staff. Sadly this is not always the case and too many bosses will always consider others as unimportant.

In my experiences both gender can be terrible or good, it depends on the persons personality. You cannot say which is better or not. Both bosses can be nice and fair in giving judgement, some can be extremely sensitive to tittle-tattle and negative comments. The best thing to do is work naturally and avoid conflict with the bosses to maintain the harmonious atmosphere. Sensitivity is the key word!

Hi,its not that you go out of your way to piss off a bad boss there are those who will find fault in whatever you do since they are just out to spoil your day,i agree there are the wonderful type who will keep encouraging you and correct you in a nice way.i agree either gender can be good and bad but my personal experiences ladies are more prone to be mean especially to lady staff.

Hello pomwango,
In our college there were three departments were headed by ladies and all three departments were known to be worse where no work was conducted and the people were always fighting and nearly every file stalled and no decisions taken because of ego of bosses. A boss can be good or bad but usually male bosses get the work done much better ( in my experience and pls dont make me a MCP) than female bosses.

Hi agrim94,
i am sure the bad management caused the stalemate in the office.you can still be a head and also be nice to people being a nice boss doesnt mean people wont work.i am a lady and i know lady bosses are harder to work with and the good lady bosses are able to have work done very well, people tend to have energy to perform in a happy enviroment.there are also male bosses too very nasty but if they could understand working with staff happy means easier management and better output.

I had more women bosses in my entire working career than men. And most of them, only a slim few were nice, the majority were straight b's. Maybe I'm playing the sexist card (and I'm a woman) but women who are played the part of being in charge to a certain point of running away with power and we love being in power and domination.
This one chick I worked for, made my life hell in the legal field. She was a senior paralegal and I was her 'assistant' and she waited until I left home to call and fire me, instead of telling me to my face. The nerve!

very sorry Bluebell,i think women have issues too, they dont reason fairly but instead behave like its a competition.i had a lady boss who hated it when you came to work looking smarter than her or with your hair made up,she would be extra nasty on such days and you wonder why she cant appreciate the good work you are doing, yet she wants you to be within her work force.

Some people have tons of bosses. In my nursing assistant job I've like 4 or more people over me. Most of them are nice. Not too nice. Just nice. Some are seen as bad when they are really just being misunderstood. The female bosses have it really hard so I do have a lot of respect for them. I've had some male bosses. All of except one who was very nice. That one fired me all because one customer complained that I was not smiling. There was one that I considered being too nice because he let me off simply because I got upset and cried because he raised his voice at me. Just because I'm being over sensitive doesn't mean he shouldn't put me in my place.

Hi Pomwango,
There are all kind of bosses but no boss would want the work to suffer. Some boss are too lienient and workers would take all possible advantages of his nature and the work suffers while some bosses are too harsh and the workers feel suffocated under him. In both cases the work suffers. So A boss should be balanced nor too harsh nor too lienient.

thanks asweetie,i agree you need to be firm to control the staff but firmness should not be abusive and such, go through the discussions and see how some people have bosses that hurl items.a good firmness would help produce results and also maintain a good work place balance plus earn the boss respect.

In general, men bosses are better than lady bosses.
However, at times we are blessed with very understanding
lady boss like your previous boss. My personal working
experiences are men bosses are many many time better than
lady bosses. They appreciate their staff and as long as
you did what you should do, then they are satisfied. Lady
bosses are more demanding.

a pleasant day to you,
as far as i believed, gender is not really an issue on handling people. it doesn't really matter if your boss is a male or female. hence, what matters is their attitude. their ways on how to deal with their staff, their ways on how to deal in every situation that their staff is encountering. sometimes, it is not bad to be in a bad mood however, it causes much if that mood will just be taken in moderate. so as not to hurt other feelings, so as not to hurt other people under their supervision.

I think it's in the person's personality if they are bad boss or nice. My first boss was so nice, she is so understanding and kind. She is very appreciative and considerate. My second boss is still a lady which is nice too but she always back stabbed us. The third one was a man, he is very nice and he always understands us and give considerations. So I guess it depends on a person's personality. If that person born as bad for sure he/she will be bad.

I don't think it's the gender. I have this male boss before that is very understanding when it comes to family matters, emergencies and mothers. Then I transferred and worked with a male boss again. Always shouting and saying bad words and love to throw things. People have different personalities and some are just inconsiderate.

Both the gender bosses r good. The thing is how we behave and work depends a lot towards the relation and the behaviour of the boss

I've had a share of both ugly male and female bosses. I don't think a bad boss is gender specific. They can be male or female.
But the boss that I hated most is the one that was sneaky. He did things that eventually got me fired. That was really a coward of him to leave his position after giving me a bad performance review.
I can't even confront him to ask why he gave me such a negative review. I thought that I've worked very well. I guess he must have not liked me but at least tell it to my face. What a coward!
