Yesterday I gave my 2 weeks notice at Walmart....

I wish I didn't have to, but I guess its better to leave right like someone told me you never know when you're going to need them again. I'm just ready to leave and get started with my new job. But during my interview with Target they told me they will give me enough time to leave my job right although I have the option to leave which ever way I'd like. So I could have just quit. But, I was like I want to leave right so I'll go ahead and give 2 weeks notice and I'll be available to start after my last day which is December 27th. Right after Christmas. The interviewer commended me with wanting to leave right and he was like your job will be here waiting for you. Yesterday I went to HR and had to give a written notice with my name and date that I wrote it and when my last day was that I was leaving. The HR lady seemed so sad and wanted to know if everything was okay. I informed her all was good and just said better opportunities arose for me and decided to take that opportunity. So she seemed sad to see me go, but she was like its always good to move up when that opportunity arises and wished me luck and took my statement. I'm going to miss the few people that I worked with. We were like family, but they all seemed to understand, they just knew I wasn't happy there and plus my hours being cut just was the last straw that broke the camels back. They will be missed, but I'll go back and visit every now and then. But now its time for me to move on.

That is so great that you have this new job at Target. I think it is always a good idea to give 2 weeks notice when you leave a job because it will look good on a resume if you have to look for other work down the line sometime. Better than leaving a job and then trying to explain why on a application. TIme to move on. That is always a good thing.

You are so right with that, it is better to have that I at least left a company in the right way to pursue better opportunities that came up and that is what will be explained if I ever need to put them down on an application. At least they will be able to say that I left on good terms.

That is the best way because you just never know what may happen down the line.

Congratulations on your new job at Target. As far as notice period is concerned, I can understand. I am myself serving my notice period in the company that I have been working for 7 years now. Here the notice period is a bit longer a full three months and this weekend is the last week. So yes there are some sad moments, some good memories and a lot of friends that I would be saying good bye to shortly. Cheers! Ram

Oh wow, three months that is a long ways to go. I don't think I could last that long. The main reason was the cut back on the hours for me. But I'll be sad to leave behind the people that I have worked with. I made some good friends there, there is only a very few who I plan to keep in touch with.

It is good that you have a new and better job elsewhere. Hopefully, you are also looking to further your education as well. That way, you have more opportunities open to you as you move forward. Even if you are looking to remain within the world of retail, your options within that world will likely be expanded if you gain additional education.

I think this is just a stepping stone for me, while I try to figure out what career I'd like to move into. I do want to continue my education, just kind of unsure what I like to do I just know it may not be in retail is what I'd like to stay in. I plan to return to school though in 2014. Hopefully I can decide then what career I'd like to move into. Then work towards that and while I do that, I can build up my work experience. I have such a bad job history. But working at wal mart for as long as I did I believe helped me to get into Target and now I know no matter what Target is where I will stay until I get into some type of career that I can enjoy.

At the end of the day you got to do what is best for you and nobody else. Life is too short to be stuck at a place company with little growth. if you have an opportunity to grow take the chance and run with it. Best of luck with what the future holds! Btw, you pursuing any additional educational stuff?

I am planning on continuing my education, because I do believe with some more education, I will be able to have more opportunities open up for me. So I plan on giving it a year for me to be working at Target, get the hang of it and then I plan to pursue on going back to school and get a degree. I did want to begin school in January, but because of all that has happened with Wal Mart, I kind of had to put it on hold, which I hate, because I really want to go.

Well Trisha I'm with you. It's always a good idea to leave the right way. You feel Better too, knowing you didn't just leave them high and dry. That's not always Possible. Sometimes you are just so upset or ready to be gone that its hard To consider anything else. One time I just tried to meet with my manager to discuss some time Off---I had been working without vacation and attending full time college for a little over a year . He refused to give me a little time off...he said he needed me on deck at least for the upcoming Weeks because it was high tourist time( I worked at the Old Navy at Herald Sq in NYC). Umm at That point I was so overwhelmed I just started to cry and then I quit. That wasn't even My intention. Lol. I actually loved that job, but it just happened that way. Anyway, I'm glad you did it correctly And good luck & congrats on your new Job.

It is good to leave on a good note. You did the right thing because, just in case, the job at Target didn't work out. You will like to be able to explain that you did everything in a professional manner. One job that I walked away from was because I called the health department. That grocery deli (NOT Walmart nor Target) department was cutting corners and was not putting fresh food away properly. They didn't keep raw food separated from cooked. And the list goes on. One day, an elderly lady wanted to buy some fruit salad. I took one look at that salad in the case and asked her when does she plan to serve it. She said later in the evening. This was in the morning when she came to shop. I told her the truth - it does not look fresh. I was more concerned about her and her friends' health than I was about my job. I did not want elderly people to get sick because cut up fruit was not fresh. The manager heard our conversation and quickly directed the customer to some fresh fruit in another display. Then, she told me to throw out that salad. But why couldn't she see that the melons, bananas and grapes all looked old and soggy? I don't want to think that I served customers who got food poisoning. Later that week, I phone the health department and walked away from that job. Didn't like to do that and don't normally walk away from a job. But I was concerned about the customers' health.

I think that is understandable why you walked away from that job. I would have done the same thing, I just wouldn't be able to serve bad food that would make people sick to people.
