I don't know if i will be happy about it or not. Actually i did not apply for a credit card in eastwest bank, they just got my name since one of my co-worker refer me to them. Then one day they called me up and ask for my personal info, without hesitations i gave it,but then i already told them that i am not interested to have it. I didn't even pass any requirements ,but i am shocked that yesterday i receive the credit card. One of my aunt advises me not to use it because i will just get drowned with too much credit there since it has interests, but as stated on the manual it has 0% interest, unless you tend to pay after the due date.
Can you give me advises on how does it work? i was really hesitant to use it, because i am afraid.

You have a good credit standing. Not everyone are given pre-approved credit cards. I've always believed that credit cards aren't bad. It's the one who uses or abuses it who's to blame. Keep the card and try using it only for emergency situations like if you run out of cash and the ATM is offline, that sort of thing. Or even for other emergencies that require a large amount of money. But if you use it for simple purchases or bills payment, make sure you pay it on or before the due date. In this way, your purchases won't incur interests and fees. You could also use your card to verify your Paypal account.

I completely agree with beamer. Credit cards are very handy especially during emergency situations. Though, you do NEED to control your expenses. This is very, very important. Don't allow yourself to get carried away thinking you CAN pay the amount the next month.
This is usually the mistake of most users.
I personally know someone who used his credit card without even blinking. He used it to buy personal stuffs like his clothes and shoes. And he goes for the branded ones. He bought 3 pairs of branded shoes,I think. And the amount was less than P10K.
The shirts were still not included in the amount.
So, when the monthly statement of account came, and he had to pay back the whole amount, his problem started.
The interests alone from the finance charges were high.

Yes that is why my aunt advises me on that , because she knows me, that somehow i get easily tempted on buying stuffs that are not really needed. and she said that if i really want to use it, i would somehow need to be very responsible on this things. It is a very Big problem if i don't put much care on my expenses.

Use it carefully my friend. Don't go on impulsive buying just because you now have a big purchasing power, lest you will be in trouble, when you cannot pay them anymore.
I already have 2 credit cards, when an East West Bank credit card arrived also, many years ago. Actually, when someone phoned and ask for some information about me and came to know that it's a credit company , i told them i don't want it.
However, after a month the card arrived. I tore it to pieces with a scissor.

There are a lot of people in trouble because of credit cards. You can take a look at Diskarte Philippines to see how plentiful the problems like that are.
However, if you know how to control yourself from spending too much and not paying it lite, you won't get into trouble.

waahh!! why did you tore it? is it understood that if you tore it it will be cancelled right away? but then i am thinking of activating it for emergency purposes only, i hope that i will not get tempted to use it on any unnecessary things. i think it will be hard for me to do that. ahaha

Noone "makes you" use your credit card if you do not wish to. I use it and pay it fully every month and do it only to keep a track on my mayor buys (I know, for example, how much money I spend on food or meds). My credit card comes handy when on vacation, specially when traveling abroad as I don`t have to carry much money in cash.

If you can pay your monthly bills without a credit card, you can also do it with one. The thing is we all have to learn to live within our means unless something terrible happens.

ahaha you are right! i am the only one who can uses the card and it depends on me. The thing that i am afraid of is that when i can't make it on time to pay the bills.Well i must be really responsible in everything i'll purchase,i usually get tempted to buy unwanted things. I'd better change that attitude from now on, it will not be easy i guess but i hope i can manage to control my self.

the way to avoid getting into credit card debt is to pay the full amount every month when you receive the bill.
but if you don't really need it, return it and make sure it is cancelled. tell them you did not apply for it and you already told them you're not interested.
maybe your co-worker earned commission from your membership, and the bank naturally wants to increase business, but still, don't let anybody pressure you into doing something you feel is detrimental to you.
it makes you think "now i can afford to buy this or pay for that" but not really because your take-home pay is still the same, but your expenses has increased. can you guarantee that you can pay in full every month for 1 whole year? few people have that discipline. sometimes it gets even worse when unexpected things happen like losing your job or family emergencies.

YEah ! That is the main point on why i am hesitant to use it coz it will just add my expenses and i am afraid that i can't manage to pay the monthly billing. but somehow i think of it's advantages whenever i have emergency needs. it really confuses me. but somewhere in my mind i want to use it. and i guess before doing that i need first to have more discipline in my self and be responsible with it. Think twice when using it and be very careful. Thanks for your response!

actually, if there's an emergency expense it's better not to use your credit card for it. try to borrow elsewhere where there is little or no interest like friends and relatives. or through sss and pagibig (multipurpose loan) so the company will automatically deduct the payment from your salary. or approach a congressman or pcso. start saving also so you have an emergency fund. make sure you have regular sss and philhealth contributions so you can avail of the benefits.

hmmm..i think whats happened in your country is the same in my country too.
hi sir, you have selected for titanium card (the highest level of card from one bank), are you stil work in... . where can i get your ID to printed this card?
hahahaha...i just said no thanks, im farmer and cant pay enough to you, and closed the phone.
ok, here, you should call the bank first and make sure your card still not used, i mean fresh new from bank, as you knew that lots of cheated with card.
tell the bank you have just received when. and then if you want to activated the card then you activated, if not said the call center i dont want activated and you will never in charge.
the plus from the card is they have some discounts for purchased something, or credit offering to 0% for 12 months may be.
you should see the promo from the bank that issuer card.

arghhhh..one more thing ...
if you dont want activated the card, you SHOULD DESTROY THE CARD, including the chips in the card, its really important.
dont just take away in to the garbage with full shape of the card.
with high tech, somebody can duplicate your card, and used it with your data in the bank, even you dont activated, sure somebody can do that.

If you pay your bills in full each month, a credit card can be handy. You can use it for your normal day to day expenses like for groceries and gas and having it would help with your credit history. If you have a rewards card then you may want to use it often for earn cashback. Good luck.

First of all, congratulation for receiving your credit card. You can use your credit card through Paypal Debit card. Do not reveal your password from credit card. Just use it wisely. Your Mylot earnings or other earning site will go to Paypal. Then, it will go through your credit card.

I have been offered a credit card on a few occasions by several different banks.I have always refused them due to worrying about being tempted to using it and then getting into debt.A credit card isn't very bad if you pay the balance off at the end of every month rather than just the minimum payment. As if you do the debt will just keep on adding up if you pay the balance of at the end of every month you can get the benefits of having the card whilst not building up a large debt.Though that's only if you don't spend more in a month than you can pay off, which I may do.

Right! it would only bring trouble to us when we use it in a wrong way. mostly that is the main problem on why there are lots of people who have big debts on credit cards because they didn't use this wisely, they easily get tempted and not thinking if they can really pay for such expenses. i hope i can be responsible in having this.

Before, like you, I am also hesitant to have a credit card since there is an opportunity to get drowned with lots of debts and a lot of interests added to the credits but now I think I am eager already to have one because I want also to experience how to use a credit card. lol. I am curious how to do shopping with the use of credit card so that when I'll go to other country that needs to have a credit card I will not be ignorant already.

Usually you will not pay any interests for using your credit card, but you need to remind yourself that you have to pay back your expenses on time. If not, you will own a heavy debt and automatically put yoursellf in the black list, which even worse you will be deprived of the right to apply the loan.
If you apply the credit card in a bank, it means that you bring the back a business. So the bank always usually welcome the people to apply for the credit cards. We know that there is also a kind of salesman in bank who responsible for credit card business, who always manage to attract clients, claiming a lot of eco advantages you will get if you hold a credit card.
It is a commonplace that personal info is often public, these sales guys strive hard to get your personal info in order to make their business flourish. Under this info going public background, we have no way to avoid it, but strengthen our awareness of self-protection.
If you are worried about it, i suggest that you should consult the expert responsible for credit cards in bank.

Hi,jeztrose,don't be nervous,take it easy!
I applied three credit cards, and now received two of them.Last month,I started to use credit card to pay for online shopping.I found it's much convenience than our bank card.If you catch the special chance ,you can get a nice dicount.
As you said ,if we pay debt in time ,no interest. So,the problem is how to manage the credit card .we can set a shopping quota to avoid expenditure over our finacial account.
At last ,the credit card allow us to buy commodities through our personal credit. It means the credit card can pull us out from the cash shortage crisis.
Anyway ,I think credit card consuming is future trend.Wish you learn how to deal with finance.

I find it easy to have a credit card in this country. If you have an account, they will automatically send a credit card without your permission. It's ok to have a credit card as long as you know your due date. Their interest rates are high when you missed a payment. Have self discipline and don't purchase anything that you do not need. Sometimes it's really tempting to shop especially if the malls are on sale. And when you activate that card, I'm sure there'll be more cards to be sent to you from different banks. That's what happened to me and I chose to have one card only and I use it for emergency purposes only.
