hey guys, i have always believed in the concept of individual work and efforts. I had faced many situation where i had to suffer heavily due to team work.
For instance, i had taken a team of four to a group debate competition and we lost that competition badly just because my teammates did not support me in the competition, throughout the contest i had to speak alone and it was very disappointing. Recently i was made the leader of a team where we had to prepare a project and to my disbelief none of my teammates supported each other and i had to complete the entire project alone and they only gave me the money at the end of the project submission.
This is the only reason i have always loved to work individually and wherever i have worked alone i have come out with flying colors. I know many people would be of the view of team work but i heavily dislike team work as it has never gone well with me.
What are your thoughts on this? Do u have the same opinion as me? U had any experience like this before? Please do share your valuable thoughts!

Well, there are instances wherein individualism is better than working with a team. But also, the opposite is true at times. Working alone and working with a team has their pros and cons. It will really depend on the situation and environment and who you will be working with. Working alone removes biases, diversified opinions and emotional breakdowns of having to ply with a team. Also, it gives you better control and management yourself on the goal at hand. But working with a team brings camaraderie and lightens the workload for the people. Also, there is a lot more to pick up and learn from working with a team as you get to observe how your teammates do the job. Really, it depends. One must know when to work alone and when to assess working with a team instead.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Yeah i completely agree to u on this that both have pros and cons and we cannot conclude that one is better or superior than the other. In fact it all comes down to the situation and circumstances.
To be very honest, in many cases, working individually have worked in my favor and may be that is the reason my mindset have always favored this type of working. I nowadays find it very tough to work in a team and find solace in working individually.

Well, I am having the same direction as you are right now. However, I am finding some situations wherein no matter how efficient and big my effort on trying to accomplish a goal by individual work, I can't seem to be able to achieve it. Now I am realizing the value of team work in this case. There is such a limit to how much an individual can do in a certain time duration. That is where a couple of help can be necessary.

Thanks a ton for your response again. Yes of course we certainly require some input when we are not able to complete a task and it is then that a team will be helpful. But i have felt that in an individual work, u can express yourself more, give more from your side and there would be no chance of any outside interference or disagreements on any issue which is good. I see many disagreements and misunderstandings while working in a team which ultimately hampers the team's performance.
Don't u agree to this?

Sometimes we do need a team to make a project work more effectively. But back when I was in college, I preferred to work alone. I remember a team project that I had to work on by myself because I was teamed up with unreliable people. Even the team leader wasn't doing anything to speed up what needs to be done.
The due date for project submission was only a week away and yet we still didn't have anything. The other team mates reasoned out that they were busy with other stuffs. Well, they seemed to have forgotten that I may be busy living my life too!
I didn't want to be dragged down along with them with a very bad grade from our professor, a person who expected nothing less.
So, I thought of only one thing that I could do. Like you, I did everything from the scratch.Had to go sleepless for a few days just to finish everything and have it ready before the due date.
Though some of my team mates didn't give me their share for the expenses, I just focused on the fact that my efforts were not wasted.
The project earned a very high grade :)

Unfortunately, I was teamed up with people who belonged to another section. Our professor had this "brilliant" idea of teaming up her students from different sections.
I never saw my team mates on a regular basis and talking to them after the project was impossible. Maybe that's why some of them didn't even bother or felt guilty enough to give their share of the expenses.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Well seriously hats off to your spirit that u did not accept defeat and continued to work hard so that u can end your project and see u got good grades. This is the reason why i started this discussion, i believe we have every thing in our hands and it just needs dedication encouragement and faith on ourselves to keep going.
Did u talk to them after u completed the project? I think u should have scolded them like anything to make them realize about their mistakes.

Well it is indeed unfortunate for u to be teamed up with group mates who do not belong to your own section, in such a case either they will feel weird to share their thoughts with u or they will feel jealous of supporting each other.
I know your project must have suffered due to this thing and i think u should have talked with your teacher regarding this.
What happened to your project? Did u complete it or not?

I am one who generally prefers to work on my own. That is true even if the people who would be my teammates are my friends. I just prefer being off doing the stuff on my own rather than having to depend on others.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. I am glad to hear that u are just like me, even i try to keep myself away from my friends even if they are my team mates. For me work comes first and then my friends. If i work properly then only i will get good grades or a good outcome, who can give me assurance that my friends will support me. They might also have some intentions which might be harmful for the assignment. That is the only reason i prefer individual work than group work.

I enjoy working as a team member and in a team effort. I think it's great to be able to rely on your team members to get a project completed, but you are right. Sometimes, some team members don't pull their weight and let the other team member do all the work. Oh..it might seem like they are working, but in reality they are not. Many hands make light work, and it's wrong for team members to take advantage of the one team member and expect them to do all the work.
When I was in school, I also enjoyed group activities especially when I really didn't understand the assignment, so it was great to have other views and opinions on what the outcome was suppose to produce. There were also times, I wanted to do my own work individually because some students just didn't want to do the activity. They would have rather waited until the last minute before the assignment was due.
There are pros and cons to both scenarios and honestly for me it would depend on what the task was as to whether I wanted help with it or not. Case in point, tonight I was going to have my daughter put the dishes away in the dishwasher. Well, Mom got to it first, and said she would rather do it herself because she doesn't like the way my daughter puts them away. My Mom did not want to work as a team and wanted to do it herself.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Yes of course there are pros and cons for both but i think when u are working in a team u cannot succeed unless u get the full support of your team members. i think if u are lucky then u get good and hard working team mates. I believe when u have faith on yourself then u can achieve every thing single handedly, u don't even need any advise to complete the same. But in the end it depends on the tasks or assignments we are given.

Thanks for your replies again. Well yes, i think when u are working in a team every one should be focused in such a way that they are contributing equally to the team so that the outcome will be in every one's favor. If each one of them starts working for their own benefits then the teammates would be on the losing side and this should be specially taken care of.

We all are gifted with unique skills and talents and we will express is when we get an opportunity. I like individual effort and have self confidence about my work. Our efforts, determination and positive attitude will help us to achieve a lot in our life. Most of us will find out our real power while working individually.
Team work is also good, but all the team mates must have good understanding and work hard to get success, if some of the team mates are not interested in work as well as have different ideas about the work, it is really hard to get success with the team. Both individual work and team effort is having pros and cons. But working individually will motivate us a lot and encourage us to give our full efforts in our work to show our real talent.
In my college days i did both team work and individual projects. I like my own projects a lot than the team work, because while working in the team we are in need to explain our work with others as well as get approval from all the team mates, if some of our team mates don't like our idea, then we don't have the ability to process it. Different kind of people is having different opinion and think the same thing in the different way. If all our team mates are good and approved our idea, then there is no problem in team work, otherwise our ability and creativity is in vain.
While working alone, we are not in need to get approval from others and we will give our uttermost in our work to show our real skills. No one can question us about our work and our real talent will be expressed very well in our own work. We can do our work as per our with without any interference and get success with our own ideas and creativity.
Our individual work is the real symbol of our own skills and talents and it will give a great pride to us among others. We must be confident about our work and have positive attitudes to get success in our project which tells our own name with a great individual effort.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. I really loved the way u have analyzed both and i think u are absolutely right that when u work individually u do not require the approval of any other person and u can very well perform independently without any external pressure. Besides in a team work, your worth and identity is divided and hence u get very less opportunity to show your skills. When we have got two hands, two legs and a brain then why to depend on others rather do it on your own and get appreciation.

I had also faced a similar problem once but i approached it differently the things is i work best alone however management decided to put me in charge of a team and from inception it went down hill but what i realized is that as a leader it means lead by example i had to learn to work with people and the had to learn to work together so i laced up my boots tight and layed down d law those who remained got a good performance evaluation and those who couldn't cut it well u can guess it so i hope u get the point

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Yes u are right, no doubt u will develop the skill of leadership if u are working in a team but i think it has to be understood and interpreted by others in the same as u interpret it. i believe those who get a right mix of talent and hard working teammates are really lucky as they never have to face the grunt of misunderstandings among them. There also has to be strict surveillance and vigilance from outside to control a team otherwise it will fail.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. I think these lines sounds pretty good on pen and paper. I have failed on numerous times by trusting others and that is the reason i have developed a strong affinity towards individual work. in fact wherever i go i promote individual efforts and work. No doubt some work has to be done by a team but that does not mean loss of individual identity.

Well, if a team or group is not well-organized, I would say that the team members lack the sense of team spirit. In some cases, people just want to get without any labor or paid. I really hate that kind of people. Why is so common people in the view of team work? Probably we should notice that people can discuss about the team task and get motivation under each other's help and supervision.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Yes i completely agree to you on this point, having an unorganized team and having a team with each of them unwilling to cooperate are two different sides of a same coin. When a team is unorganized in spite of good talent in them will definitely suffer but the team suffers the most when the team mates are unwilling to give their contribution and i am sure they will soon realize their mistakes in the future.

Thanks a ton for your valuable response. Yes both individual efforts and determination have to be mixed properly to get a good output. I believe that i most cases, often a team is made up successfully but it lasts for a temporary time period because of the lack of coordination and varied opinion among the team mates and that is the reason why i feel extremely comfortable when i am working individually as it gives u a scope to show your own talent.
