turning off notification in friends' list

As you all know I am having trouble cleaning my inbox so now I found one solution which I got from a friend here. I am now in the process of turning off the notification button in my friends' list because for me, I would still know if they have started new discussions or they have responded to my posts when I log in. I think it is not so necessary to have the email notifying me about this because I would know anyway when I log in, which I always do. Have you also done the same thing? I am sure this would greatly clean my inbox.

I prefer getting the email notifications but I have turned off notifications of friends who never comment on my responses to their discussions. So my email doesn't get crowded with notifications and I only get them for the people I care to respond to. But I don't have 100's of friends, either, like a lot of members do. If I did it might be a different story.

I have many, many friends on my list because I do not refuse any requests for friendship so I can imagine I must be having thousands already. LOL

Before I accept friend requests I always check their profile to see if we have common interests. If we don't I don't accept. I don't want notifications for discussions I have no interest in. Of course I could shut them off, as I said above. Duh. But I don't want pages and pages of friends to have to go through if I'm looking for somebody. And very new members spam a lot of times. But I think many members do like you and accept everybody. You're just real popular!

I just think we have to accept request for friendship. I see nothing wrong with it.

I also like getting my email notifications...so I only turn off the ones that don'e respond to my discussions...after all friendship is a two way street and they should respond to mine as well as me responding to theirs!

My reason for responding to discussions is not based on friendship. I respond to topics that interest me, so it is useless to have those notifications, I think.

I have turned off the notifications already in the site because there are just too many of them here in mylot. oh i need it turned off otherwise the email i have is full of mylot pushing down all my other emails received that is more important than mylot notifications. :D So when i need to see whatever i need to see, response or new discussions created by friends, i just go to mylot and see them for myself... :D

I am not really worried about Mylot's email notification. I can delete them directly if I want to. I want to identify if I have deletion in my response or discussions.

I should be doing this too. Because if I don't, my email inbox would be so bloated with emails that I'm not going to respond to anyway. I don't have that big of a mailbox so if I don't check my email regularly, I will go over the allotted storage that I've been assigned by my ISP.

Wow,you should have so many friends here.Indeed just like what you said, the notification is easy to fill the inbox to the full.Actually, although I just have several friends here,I still receive several emails from mylot notification every day.And sometimes I also had known the information before I received the emails. To some extent, maybe it is not necessary to receive the notification. However,I still don't want to turn off the notification button, for fear that I may miss some discussions and answers.

well, there are people who open their emails first before their facebook. so it is understandable that they want to be notified through emails. so when they open their facebook, they already know whom to respond and what to respond in the messages or posts. this is very efficient to do when time is essential in managing online activities.

i understand what you are saying , my mail box is full every day . Maybe I should consider doing that also . I dont like missing important email and I think with so much notification , I might miss out on important messages . I think you are right , you will see if your friend start any new discussions and you will still know whenever someone reply to your discussion but will you see if some one comment on your respond ?

No, I don't mind getting the notifications from myLot. They constitute so very few of the emails that I get that they really don't make a difference in the deluge of mail into my primary email account each day. If I really wanted to stop the deluge, I would have to turn off notifications for another site. However, that would mean that I would then have to go searching on there for my friends' activity, and that would mean a lot of wasted time. It's a lot easier in the case of that particular site that I get such notifications.

I did the same thing because every time I opened my in box, it is crammed with notifications about a friend's discussion. It's just fine if I only have few friends, the problem is every time a friend requests is sent to me, the probability of acceptance is more. Anyway, I also picked topics that I can relate to.

when i'm logged into mylot, i just go to all of the tabs from left to right. the only notification i have on are for friends who seldom start new discussions. then for the popular mylotters, i don't need to send FRs to them anymore because when they start a discussion, i know it will be either in the top or hot tabs. but then, when i joined mylot, i created a new email account just for it so i don't need to look at it every day and it won't interfere with my main/work email. i'm logged in here several times a day anyway.
