Do you think that the trend of earning a degree online is continuing to grow? Why do you think there are more older rather than younger students that are drawn to online schooling (such as motivation traits or self discipline levels or...)?

Old people who usually go for online studies have jobs and do not have time to go to actual school. Young people prefer to go to an actual school not just to have a degree but also to gain experience. I have to admit that I don't just go to school just to get a degree, socializing with my classmates and learning from them is another reason. I would rather earn my degree online if I have a job. Also i think it's more difficult to learn online as it's self study. I prefer having an actual teacher. Who I can approach and talk to not just about lessons but ask for advice and not just send e-mails.

I agree that learning preference plays a role. I am currently studying online for a BS in psychology. I do a lot better online than at the local campus. I get more out of reading on my own then listening to a lecture. But I am a social person so I miss face to face interactions. I am a stay at home mom. Online schooling has allowed me to stay at home with my children while earning a degree to better our future.
Over the past 2 1/2 years I have realized that online schooling is more of a growing trend for those that are older rather then younger. Those that already have a career set in place but would like to move up or improve at their career. I am 22 and always one of the few that is young!

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Yes u are absolutely right, many these days are preferring online schooling courses and this is a serious concern. It reflects the short cut mindset of the youngsters who want to do every thing without even working hard. At least education should be taken seriously and if circumstances are not in your favor then only online schooling courses can be availed.
What say?

What makes you assume that online schooling is a short cut and is easier (less work). I am an online student, I received an associates online and I am now studying for a BS in psychology. I tried to go to college at my local campus but it was not for me. I actually feel like I work harder by going online than to the nearby campus. Also, I have to be more motivated.
