How much?

I was wondering how much coverage is the situation here in America getting in other countries. The situation where the 20 year old gunman came into a kindergarten class and killed 20 children and then six adult women (note the dead adults are all women) plus his mom. You know, in Connecticut. I know there are sad situations everywhere. I'd like to extend my sympathies to those in China who are dealing with the situation of a man going to a school and stabbing 22 children. Which just goes to show you, guns or no guns, if someone wants to harm people, they are going to find a way to do it. This post isn't about gun laws, believe me. I don't want to get into that. I'm just wondering how much non Americans have heard about it. I would imagine Canadians, seeing as they are next door, might be getting more of it that others. And Americans, have you been watching it? I admit I have not watched a lot of coverage on television. I get it on the internet so I can control what and how much I want to take in. I mean sad things go on enough in my life, I don't need to overload on all the tragedies. And I'm sure neither do you.

I turned on the TV to listen to CNN news early Saturday morning here and the Connecticut shooting was all over the news as breaking news and all... The stabbing in China was in the news too; but more just like a headline... There were more continuous and developing coverage on the Connecticut one...

Your right Ambiepam. any time one person takes the life of another it is so sad. but it grabs our hearts more when it is small children and many at one time. The stations were covering this story 24/7 and it was just too much. If I were any one of those families I would be very up set at having the media splashing my family's grief all over the world. Some things I would want to keep private. We as the public in general seem to need to have every little detail about these sad circumstances as soon as they are discovered or figured out. the Oklahoma bombing and the Columbine and others. The more killed the more and longer it is in the news. It seems that the story is all over the world.

Let me ask you something because I've been wanting to ask this on mylot, but don't want to start something people get angry about. So far, no one has claimed the shooter's body, Adam Lanza. Not his father, not his brother, no one. Would you clain your child's body even if he did this horrible act? I just feel like as a parent it would be my duty to at least bury my child. At least cremate him or something.

Ambie you have given me something to really think about. Just maybe Nancy Lanza ws lucky that her son killed her before going to the Sandy Hook school. She will not have to make decision. I believe that most mothers and fathers love their children no matter what they do. That doesn't mean that they like what their children do. I believe That I would claim my son's body at least for cremation. Have you read what Dylan Klebold's mother wrote in "The Oprah Magazine". http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/6302320/Columbine-killers-mother-tells-of-horror-of-suffering-her-son-caused-in-high-school-shooting.html And then there are other mothers that fear that they might find them selves in the same situation. http://www.today.com/moms/i-am-adam-lanzas-mother-another-moms-cry-help-1C7625059. Adam must have been lot more disturbed than any of his family may have known. It is hard to know what is in the minds of some of our family members.

Because my client is a "newsie" I heard about the situation, both Friday and today.
I did my best to avoid it over the weekend, I have enough stress in my life without inviting more in.
Oh, and my client listens to all those shows with people screaming at each other - its enough to raise my stress level just hearing those voices from the other room.

When I got home from work and opened Facebook, one of my Canadian friends seemed to be posting the most about the situation.. she had updates on the news stories posted on her page where as other friends hadn't said much other than how awful it was and sympathies, etc.

I know what you mean. Every time I turn the TV on there are those poor people. I also thought that it must be even harder for them to have all that coverage during this time. I watched the coverage for the first couple of days and that was enough to make my heart break.

I was doing better until I found myself singing the song with the lyrics, "He sees when you are sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been good or bad..." And then it occurred to me this is probably a song those kids sang and they thought Santa would be coming soon. Well, they are in Heaven so they got better than Santa, but what a bad way to get there.

hi AmbiePam yuo know I have often wondered if the over kill on coverage by
American press d oles not just incite similar crazies to do likewise as I have read some criminals love to read their own press.People kill not the weapons b y themselves they are just inert weapons but in a crazed person's hands they are indeed
lethal. We need to deal with mentally ill people before they kill.
