I was embarrassed at church on Sunday......

It was kind of funny, but I wasn't trying to be disrespectful either. The pastor was up at the pew talking and everyone was quiet and listening. Then all of a sudden, my phone went off and it was loud too. It was the sound for when my alarm goes off. And it was playing a rooster and actually the funny part was that the pastor was talking about animals and all being at the scene when Jesus was being born. So all this time I was trying to shut off my phone my husband was whispering at me to shut off my phone and people were staring at us, the pastors wife was making mean faces as well as his son. I was like omg come on shut off. It took a whole minute for the phone to shut off. I felt so embarrassed. All I wanted to do was slowly fall to the floor and hide from everyone's stares. The pastor kept on preaching like nothing happened. Anything embarrassing like this happen to you while in church. My husband was like thank god it wasn't my phone like someone calling him, he has this ring tone that says, "Dr Booty you have a booty call. Dr Booty you have a booty call." And he has this other ring tone when someone text him that says "Don't answer it she's ugly." So I was like yeah thank God, mine is just roosters and it fit along with the theme the pastor was talking about. Lol. It would have been funny if he mentioned and there was even roosters that came to visit baby Jesus at the manger. Lol

It would have been even funnier if it had been at Easter and the pastor had come to the text about Peter denying Christ before the c0ck had crown thrice! May it be a lesson to you to TURN OFF YOUR PHONE when you are in church or at a lecture or in the cinema or anywhere where you don't NEED to be called! Your pastor exhibited exemplary reserve. It is always annoying when someone has forgotten to turn their phone off and it rings in a public meeting ... and it is very bad manners as well!

The thing is I always turn off my phone before church or any meeting and I guess I didn't turn it off completely or it just turned back on by itself I was surprised that it even went off. I guess the best thing to do is just leave my phone in the car period. I don't need to have I won't get any important phone calls anyway. I'll save the embarrassment and just leave it behind next time.

You can turn it to silent and LOCK THE KEYBOARD.

Actually, it is not a good thing to have the phone rang, especially in church. It will distract the people who are putting their attention onto the sermon, for instance. It is very important to have a habit to put your phone into a buzzer or a silent mode. This will never happen to me in church because the minute I leave my house, I will make sure my phone will be in a buzzer mode. This habit can be cultivated.

Actually I think next time I won't bring it in. I had thought I turned it off. Well obviously not being that it went off. I know its rude that's why I was embarrassed and I wasn't trying to be rude. . Either it was off and it turned itself on or it was on when I thought it was off. *sigh I guess I might as well just leave it at home next time. To save myself any more embarrassment.

Exactly prash I don't know why some people think I intentionally did it or just for fun. Nope I didn't, I even thought I turned it off before church. Well obviously I didn't or my phone turned it self back on. I think it was the second one. Either way oh well, lesson learned, I'll just leave my phone at home.

I am glad your pastor didn't point you out and say something because that would have been much worse. But I leave my phone outside in the van when we go into church so it will not happen. Or if my mother has my kids as she usually does on Sunday for them to go to her church then I leave it on vibrate. The vibrate is so quiet that no one else would hear it. But I would feel it and walk outside to call her if somethings wrong... I would have walked out in embarrassment if that happened to me. I cannot handle being embarrassed like that.

I think I would have been more embarrassed to walk out like that. But I should have. I did think that I turned off my phone and I just think somehow my phone turned it self back on that's my story and I'm sticking to it. But I think next time, I'm just leaving it home. Forget bringing it in any more. No one is going to call me anyway.

I agree that people should have not given the stares, it was a simple accident anyone could have made. . I think next time I'll just leave my phone at home, to save myself any more embarrassment.

It's a lesson to learn anyway. We really have to turn off our phones when we are inside the church. Maybe next time, you really are going to turn it off. :-) Have a nice day!

I think I won't give me a next time and just leave my phone at home. I don't need it anyway in church.

Hahaha - do not be upset! Things like that can happen to anyone, and it's not a crime. You only forgot to switch the phone off, my goodness. I wonder what would have happened if it was the pastor's wife's phone that went off... The congregation would've laughed!

I think maybe its happened to someone at least once. Maybe not in church but probably in an important meeting. So I know I'm not alone. But I think you are right with that scenario instead of the pastors wife getting mean looks they would have laughed it off and made a few jokes.

MANY years ago, I didn't have a functioning wristwatch (they were all clockwork and quite expensive), so I carried a travelling alarm clock with me in my pocket. It went off at that point in the Communion service when everyone is silently preparing to eat of the elements. Talk about embarrassment! I apologized afterwards for not having the smells to go with the bells, but I don't think anyone was any more than very slightly amused.

Hahahaha...I am laughing while I am reading. Thank you for sharing this it makes me laugh and I can imagine how it feels. It will be more funny if it's your husband's phone. That's why I didn't bring phone in church. Because there is one time my niece brought phone in church and her ringtone is on maximum volume. Then her ringtone was a fire alarm so everybody gets panic and it was so embarrassing.

I use to have that ring tone. Thank God that wouldn't have been even more funny. Yeah my husband's ringtones are hilarious. One time he was in a meeting with his manager at work and it went off cause I sent him a text message and the managers thought it was hilarious.
