How to deal with smoking passengers

I love riding public transport, not only because it’s cheap and economical… it’s somehow breaks the norm on riding your own vehicle. You interact with other people; you stop over places and most fun part. You discover others.
But one thing I don’t like on riding such transportation is that there are people who are very annoying. Such as talkative people, and the worse smoking passengers, how do you handle such passengers? Would you correct them and tell them not to smoke in such rides?
Please share your thoughts…

I don't correct them directly as I don't want to start an argument, but I cover my nose and mouth. There are some who get the message but there are some who don't. I just ignore them even if I'm reslly annoyed. I don't want to ruin my day by arguing with these kind of people. They can be really stubborn and hardheaded you know, and won't accept it even if they do know they're wrong specially when there are a lot of people who can hear they're being corrected.

In a way, it is helpful to not start a commotion over such incident, yes. covering your nose can be a sign to trigger the smoking passenger to stop what he/she is doing.
Thanks for your response.

I think I am weird because though it's been years since I quit smoking, ever once in awhile I love the smell of freash smoke..not always , just sometime. I will even stand next to someone smoking and inhale deeply.lol
I totally dislike stale cig smoke..always have, but fresh smoke is another thing...

LOL, it's quite odd to hear that you smoke yet you don't like the scent of it. but anyhow, yes it also pays respects to those non-smokers in public transport if you refrain your smoking habits in such crowds.
Thanks for your response.

I hope you mean you would be upset if you were told not to smoke in an area where it was illegal to smoke...I can appreciate that
I used to smoke and sometimes someone would get really nasty even when I was smoking outside and not at all in a crowded place..I didn't like that at all..but on public transportation I don't think anyone should smoke.

Totally it's hard to take control on people who are hard headed and don't mind about their environment. All we need is strict and much implimentation on such.
Thanks for your reply.

Talkative people are fine with me and we cannot avoid such kind of people while we're on public transport.
But, I will not tolerate smokers.
We all have the right to tell them not to smoke inside public transport.
Every city has an ordinance regarding these rules of smoking in public places.

Agree, but sometimes there are those who just don't follow such rules to satisfy their crave. Thanks for your response.

In India now, smoking in public transport is banned and is a punishable offence. So at present, we the Indians, no longer face this problem of smoking in public transport. It is no doubt a positive action taken by our government.

In my country they have actually made it illegal to smoke on any transport system! So you can travel by bus, train, metro, boat and no one smokes, you cannot even smoke on platforms either. It's wonderful for those that don't smoke. Whenever I travel on transport I usually have my headphones on so I don't get annoyed by anyone who should want to talk.

Yes it is illegal also here in my country. however, there are some people who are abusive and don't abide such regulations, it's quite not strictly acted over in my place which is disturbing. but there are some security personnel who corrects such passengers. though it's annoying we can't help but deal with such because it's public vehicles, we can't dictate who takes ride on such.

It is very annoying that someone smokes in the public transportation. In fact today it is already prohibited to smoke in public. Namely you can't smoke in the bus, subway, restaurants and so on. However, a few people may ignore it. Since I am not a smoker and I really hate the smoking smell, I will just tell the smoking passengers to stop smoking directly.

I am not young, but ever since I can remember there is a law in my country against smoking in public buses. We had that law when everyone could smoke in planes or in taxis. As for people to talk, they don`t much bother me.

Glad that people in your place abide such laws. But here in my place, some do break such laws. But regardless, they should limit their bad habits inside public transport.
Thanks for your response.

I don't think I'm that brave to tell a fellow passenger to stop smoking or to do anything that annoys me. The most I would do is to just change seat or perhaps just complain to the driver and let the driver deals with the situation. I'm not confrontational and I don't like to get people into trouble.

Well actually smoking in the public transport in my city is illegal,so to deal with this problem for me is easy because all of the passengers will yell to this guy and let him stop smoking.
And as for your another question,I think talk in the bus is the right of passengers so we can not interrupt them from doing this.

Thanks for your response, i guess most countries have laws on such violations but the question of its effectivity is debatable since some people don't abide on such rule.

I usually stay quiet though, you may never know what they'll respond if you remind them not to smoke for example, but I will make sure to stay away from annoying passangers at the bus or any public transportation. Although usually if they are annoying enough, there will be someone who remind them anyway, but more often when someone did remind them, that annoying one will be angry and that person who remind him will also be angry...Well I usually a person who just stay put except that annoying person violated something from me.

Thanks for your response, yes we can't predict how they will react if were going to correct them about what they are doing. but none the less, i think body actions perceives a notion to such passengers making them aware that people don't like what they are doing for example, covering your mouth and as a result, they will stop the act.
Thanks for your response.

I actually have never done public transpotation where you could smoke but I have rode the local bus and the talkative people that talk to you about things you don't care about is so annoying. Its different if you are having a conversation but i hate when someone on the bus will tell me what's going on with there life. I guess some people just need someoen to talk to but i got my own problems to worry about. Now, I hate riding in a car with a smoking passenger I am allergic to cig smoke and it drive me nuts even when the windows are down the smell kills me and makes my nose stuffy.

It is not possible to correct people who are in smoking and talking when the place is a public place that allowing people to smoke. But, if it is a no smoking and no talking, you can correct them to stop smoking and talking. The best solution is to ride your own can and ride wherever you like.

We do have private vehicles however, public transportation is much economical and a budget saver however, you need to blend in with the people over public vehicles, however in such places it is really a no-no to smoke because it is not allowed but there are people who are abusive in their smoking habits that they don't abide such policies...

LOL, yes one cant tell it in a decent tone but i wouldn't engage myself telling it to a stranger most especially when that person looks as if he/she is pissed off when you are correcting their actions. but anyhow, yes. it's a great approach though.
Thanks for your response.

Normally,I keep distance with those people. It's unwise to remind them smoking at public is not allowed.Only few people can accept stranger's comments, sometimes, they will conflict with you.
Generally, major public places have the signal "NO SMOKING",but still someone break it.No offense ,I think the behavior is link to their self-centered awareness.
I don't against somking if they wouldn't cause damage to others health.

Thanks for your response , yes it is somehow done by people's crave on something. It's a matter of being brave to correct them. but we can't please every body so, the most good thing we do is to avoid or keep distance on such situations.
