I had to read this over and over. I can't believe there are actually games out there like this. The "people" that create and sell these games are just as guilty as the shooters themselves, in my opinion! Why? Why would any SANE, DECENT person, create and/or sell games such as these?
I read an article about Half Life 2, where there's a mod for a goal in the game called School Shooter: North American Tour 2012. Are you kidding me? This is for real. And all the gamers and gaming companies, of course, say the shooters are not linked to any video games. That the video games have no impact on their actions. Again.. are you kidding me?
Take away the violent video games, take away tons of senseless acts of violence.
What's your opinion?

I don't think it has been proven that there's a link between the school shootings and violence in video games. Even though I'm absolutely against video games violence, I don't think gamers who play these games are any more prone to commit these crimes as those who did commit the crimes.
If you see the background of these school shooters, I believe you will not find any one of them ever get involved in playing these games. Gamers play games as a means of escapism. I don't think they would even have the time to take their eyes off their video games to go and shoot people in real life.

"Anderson and Bushan (2001) used modern meta-analytic technique to combine the results of violent video game effect on 5 types of outcome variables: aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, aggressive affect, helping behavior, and physiological arousal. Found significant effects of violent video games on each of these five variables." by Craig A. Anderson in "An update on the effects of playing violent video games"

Those are very convincing stats StLouisMetroTutoring. You've done your research. But might I ask you a question? Out of the millions of people who play violent video games, why do these people resort to acting out? Why don't every one of these gamers act out their fantasies in real life? Why only six? That is like 6 out of millions of gamers (approximately 0.0006%). Can we blame violent video games solely?

Oh no, I by no means blame video games solely. But I do strongly believe they're a contributing factor. In addition, I believe the problem is caused with television shows and movies that make those prone to violence appear to be heroes. And we all know, the hero always wins. We learn the mentality that violence=hero=winner. Then when someone does commit mass murder, the media turns it into a show. That's all that we hear about, for weeks. The murderer is a sudden celebrity. Everybody knows everything about him/her. I think it's about teaching that killing is easy, is fun, has no consequence, and is a method to get rid of our opponent. All found in video games. IN ADDITION, I think it's the reinforcement of these beliefs in television and movie programming. And then we top it all off by making sure those that don't feel heard, get heard.
As far as the stats, I just listed the first few I saw. I didn't do extensive research. This is what I found in 10 minutes. The way I understand it, violent video games effect everyone. Some to different extent. But most people don't act on what they learn. But if someone has all these things teaching them killing will solve problems and is a good way to get attention, they have a troubled mind (this doesn't HAVE to mean mental health issues), and have rage, violence is often seen as a way out.

You are so right there. These online games teach the kids to kill. They make killing look normal. Kids who play this get into the role of a criminal and he goes around shooting people. So what is this teaching the kids to do? Pray? These video games are putting all these trash into the kids' minds. The makers of these games should be sued.

It is because of the thingd that can happen that we fear for our children safety at school. ity really is not fair to anyone. we send our childrern to school to get a good education. we should not have to worry about what will happen there. so much violence in society, what is this world coming to and what jubd if future can our children look forward to?

Yes, I totally agree. It would not do good to our youths and will really poison their minds. They will become violent too with all these violent games. There are cases of this wherein one becomes violent because of watching violent shows in TV. How much more of this video games that they really interact with 3D everyday. It is absolutely wrong and useless for our youths.
Have a nice day!

I absolutely agree - violent video games or violent movies, etc. should not be allowed nor even created. What for? I don't accept the argument that it doesn't influence children. Why are commercials made? Yes, violent media influences children. What influences shooters? Wasn't the Batman shooter influenced by the Joker? I know that many people want to live in the world of make-believe, but we also live in the REAL world and REAL people do actually die when they are shot at. It is not a game. Violence is not a game. We should never teach or allow our children to think that violence is just a game.

You know why there are shooting in school. The people who shoot are ignorant, and want to kill the ones who try to get an education. In this world there are a lot of haters and lovers. But only you should watch out.
