Many are really disappointed.

With the just recent Miss Universe 2012 pageant, I know that many Filipinos were disappointed with the results. They really expect Philippines will bring home the crown. In this situation, many fellow Filipinos will be sour-graping and will say that the result was cheated because for the main reason, it was held in the US that's why they got the crown. Do you think this is another issue of discrimination wherein they doesn't want Asians particularly Philippines to bring home the title? Is this another incident like the one in American Idol wherein our fellow Filipino, Jessica Sanchez, failed to get the title and give it to a full-blooded American? What are thoughts about this mylotters?

I am happy that she won the first runner up. And I think her answer is the best among all of them. But I am not one of those people sour-graping though because she did not get the crown, they can do whatever they like and let's just be happy with the results.

That is the best thing we can do for now, accept the decision. Let us move on and search for a new candidate that this time might get the crown for our country. I know that it will really bring a lot of pressure to the organization on searching for the best candidate for the said pageant.

I think it is really early for the search. I think the search will be on the first quarter next year. I just hope they can choose the best candidate for the said pageant.

Actually, it's not the best... but the only diplomatic thing we can do. :) Hmm, isn't it too early to search for a new candidate next year?

Yes, I believe there is some discrimination involved. Even some American's were counting on Jessica winning. LOL, I only know Jessica. She's more famous than the champion. I don't even know that American's name. But I don't let it get to me. I know that people will succeed no matter what because of their own abilities, not because of the crown. They will be recognized. I don't think the title and the prize matters, because we know in our hearts who really won and who really deserved it. people need not sour grape about it. That's just petty.

I agree with you. It doesn't matter if you are on the top or not. It is a matter of your perseverance to climb the top be known to everyone.

That is one of the best answer. And the miss Universe is Aja! just kidding. I agree with you, it doesn't matter if you are having the crown in order to be prestige. It is what is inside you and what you can do to others as representative of the country.

Right. People seem to care so much for the title and crown. I mean, they don't really make a person that great. It's how the person acts and how he handles himself in a situation, his being professional and his humility and talent. I think those are more important. Besides, the judges are not absolute and not perfect either.

No, I think it was a very fair decision. Miss USA gave a very smart and spontaneous answer. I even thought the answer of Miss Philippines was too short and need elaboration but this did not happen. I was disappointed by the fact that a TV news channel in the US did not mention the other winners in their report. That's disappointing.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
Is that true. That was really disappointing. Maybe it is normal for them to mention who wins and don't care who are the others. I think both of them deserves to win but only one is available for the title. It was just a matter of judges decision.

Maybe you got a point. Hence, let us just accept what janine reached in the pageant. It is already their conscience if cheating happened.
• Philippines
21 Dec 12
Maybe some of us found it smart because she answered it spontaneously but a lot of people were confused about it, it says that SOMETHING I'VE DONE "I'VE REGRETTED" IS PROBABLY PICKING ON MY SIBLINGS GROWING UP, BECAUSE YOU APPRECIATE THEM SO MUCH MORE AS YOU GROW OLDER EVERYBODY FIGHTS FOR THEIR SIBLINGS RIGHT? BUT "I DON'T REGRET IT." many are confused with that. In terms of beauty and wit, well for Miss USA, she's all that.

I think Filipinos think that contests are a big deal. Take a look at American Idol contest where a Filipina Jessica Sanchez was a contestant. And whenever we lose in a contest, we always think are disappointed and we think that we are cheated in some way. Let us just accept who wins the crown. But ofcourse if Janine won the crown, we will all be happier!

Like what you said, Filipinos have the trait of having "sour-graping" whenever looses a competition. Like for example, when Pacquiao recently loss agains Marquez, they raise issues that Marquez uses steroids, he stepped Pacman's foot, etc. In this case, let us be happy for what did to put our country in the news again.

Aja, you are right, many in this country are very unreasonable like what you said. Whenever, our representative almost got into the top spot and somebody gets it, they will think and create different issues that we are being cheated, etc. Although there are many saying she won the crown, still there are judges that decided who wins. we should respect that and just prepare for the next battle rather than keeping on the issue.

I am a Filipino and I am not so proud that many Filipinos can be so unreasonable and petty and over sensitive. They take things personally sometimes.

It truly was disappointing, because everyone knows she gave the best answer during the Q&A portion. Although, USA's answer was also fine, Janine's had more impact. However, Ms Universe, is not just about the contest - it's also business.
• Philippines
21 Dec 12
Even she gave the best answer among the finalists that is all we thought and there are still soemthing the judges might saw from USA even she doesn't have that good answer compared to Janine. In this issue, we should still think Janine won and getting into the 2nd spot, is not bad at all.

Perhaps, it served a purpose for the business and international issues. Yes, let's just be happy Janine made it to the top 5 and the universe witnessed how spectacular she was.

No I don't think it's like that, and why would I be disappointed? That's first runner-up people, imagine that? Fifty plus candidates and you're first runner up, what's disappointing there? Let's be proud and happy Janine got it

I agree with you, being on the top 16 is already made you a winner what more being 2nd. I agree with you, instead of sour-graping, let us just proud for what she got in the pageant.

The woman who will represent our country next year will be in too much pressure, the standard is going to be so high, I hope whoever she is she can raise the bar finally make 4th time as a Charm. It took four tries before Rob Mariano wins Survivor, so we can say that 4th time could be the charm. I just realized 3 years in a row we are n the top 5 and were the only Asians and Pacific Islander in the top 5.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
Correct! From Venus who landed 4th, then Shamcey who finished 3rd and now Janine as 1st. Maybe next year they are really aiming for the crown. I think the Bibinining Pilipinas Organizers must choose the best they think that will represent our country.

Hi there asdomencil. Its really been a good year for us filipinos and we are blessed. This time with Janine's placing second in the Miss Universe Pageant because it is indeed a blessing to have her beauty and talent and intelligence recognized worldwide. Let us just celebrate her winning and stop thinking of what could have been...
• Philippines
22 Dec 12
I agree with you. It is better to celebrate her winning rather than sour-graping. In deed landing on the 1st runner up is a great proud for our country. This make us return agan in the map of the said pageant.

I am quite disappointed. I thought Janine won when they were 2 remaining contestants to be called. The USA contestant has the good answer than Janine. I am proud of Janine in the pageant. Second place winner was good for us. The questions and answers must be practice. The contestant must speak English fluently. I hope next Universe pageant crown will go to Philippines.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I hope too. Just make a good screening of the candidates as well as time of preparation. Not bad at all landing as 2nd place. In fact this will make our country in the map again

I think people tend to over think..all i can say is let it be, being in the first place is already great.. against so many candidates. Let us just be happy and further fanning the flame of this issue will not do good..we are like becoming sore losers.
• Philippines
21 Dec 12
That is a good point, thinking she got the 2nd place means she is already a winner. Keep thinking of not bringing home the crown and put some negatives on this issue shows that we are really losers instead of winners.

Being first runner up is already a great feat and we should celebrate that Janine had gone this far. And I salute Janine not only for her triumph but likewise for gracefully accepting victory of someone over her. That is one admirable attribute fitting for beauty queen.

I agree with you, I just heard in the TV that she really thought of having a 50-50 chance even only two of them remained. Even she knew that she had the best answer, still she did not think she had an advantage of getting the crown but still thinks half chances.

Actually, we cannot say that, my friend. In fact last night as we watched the late night news, many Americans like Donald Trump were interviewed . And they definitely like Janine. However, of course the judges have their own preferences, so she came up as first runner-up. Let's just be happy that at least she came in second.
• Philippines

You are right, we cannot dictate the mind of the judges. They have their own preferences in choosing the winner. Like what you said, let us be happy in what Janine landed on the said pageant.

I was hoping Janine was going to win after the very good reply to the question however, it seemed that the judges though differently. I don't believe about discrimination in the Ms. Universe since Asians have always won . In fact, it has been a few years since a Ms. USA won in the Ms. Universe. We all wished for Janine to win but it seemed the judges thought Ms. USA was more deserving. Let us accept it graciously and wait for another year. Pardon me, but Jessica Sanchez is not a Filipino. She is an American like Philip Philips. It so happened that she only got a Filipina mother. American Idol is through texting and online voting and most of those who are active are the young teenagers, mostly girls so it follows that they will vote for someone as cute as Philips.

That is right, we should accept our faith graciously. In that manner, we are winners. We must accept defeats in a contest wherein only one wins. Landing 1st runner up is not bad at all.

Hi friend, it is really hard to predict the result of this kind of contests. We can expect a lot, but the result is based on the judges hands. Every country persons wish that their country contestant will get the crown. We must come out from the disappointment and accept the reality
• Philippines
21 Dec 12
that is absolutely correct. Instead of staying on this issue, let us move on and prepare to search for the next lady to represent our country. just like what you said, every country wants their representative to win the crown but only one deserves to get it and it is based on judges decision. Furthermore, let us keep happy on this matter since Janine is the only Asian that made it to the top 5 and fortunately became the first runner-up.

Some says there was something happening in this pageant. They did not show the scores in every competion unlike the previous years. If this really true, let us be happy and stay positive on what Janine reached.

I'm watching the replays right now. Miss Philippines' answer is really amazing and it made a lot of sense compared to Miss USA's. Although most of the judges are Americans and the pageant was held in the USA, I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt. I'm just happy that we were able to get 1st runner up and that for me is already a great achievement.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
Exactly, this is the things that are being blamed by others who are still sourgraping about the results. Just because it happened in the US they will get home for the crown? I think not. Though Janine has the best answer among the finalist, maybe there is something in Miss USA that the judges favored of.

I wouldn't say that I was disappointed with Janine not with the results. All I feel right now is pride, because out of all the ladies that had join the pageant our country have been chosen as one of the final 5 and 1st runner up. That's a very big achievement already. But for us to be disappointed sounds unfair. She won a crown and a title, we Filipinos should be proud that 3 years in a row our candidates from our country have been selected to be in the final 5 and every year have been progressing near the main title of being Miss Universe. :)
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I agree with you. This only means that our country's time of getting the crown is not yet today but maybe in the following years. I agree with you being chosen as one of the finalist is really a pride for our country. So better think more of positive side and not on the negatives.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
Janine really should have won the crown, not miss USA. Just a thought, though. Miss Australia's answers were better than hers as well. Maybe, next year, we can finally get the crown. let us just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

We may be disappointed because Janine didn't win, but to be first runner up it something that we should be proud of and we must be happy about that. We should stop sourgraping and don't say anything bad.We must show that we reapect the decision. After all, for us she is the winner!
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I totally agree with you. That is one of the bad traits of most of us, when there is a contest that Philippines has a representative that almost made into the top, they will think that we are cheated because we deserves to win. We should always respect the decision in the contest and be proud that she landed 2nd.

I don't like when I read people's comment sour-graping. Why don't we just accept what's given to us, let them have the crown and smile. Too much effort of fighting who should have won and sour graping will make us look pathetic and craving for the title.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I agree with you. Just thin of the positivfe side. Being first runnerup is not bad at all. Just think that this will bring our country again in the map especially in the field of pageants. Just like Janine said when only two of them remained, she still thinks a 50-50 chances, she might get but she also thinks that she might not get the crown. In the end, it was still alright for her landed as 1st runner-up.
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I don't think so. Every time we lose on something, we always have an excuse about it or people are always ranting about it. Maybe the judges really think that Miss USA is deserving. Instead of thinking that we did not win the crown, we should look on the brighter side that she was the first runner up in spite of all the beautiful women that joined the contest. She really is something and she has brought pride in this country. Congrats Miss Janine!
• Philippines
20 Dec 12
I agree with you. Though Janine has the besst answers among the finalist, USA simply showed her sweet and down to earth strong personality making them both deserve the crown. For me, its just a matter of judges' decisions.
