I heard today that there discussions about banning smoking in parks in my country (and also in taxi, university and other public places). I know this policy already exists in other countries. The reason is given by the will of the European Union.
I am angry because of that, because they interfere in my free right of choosing and because they offend democracy. Smoke outside doesn't produce any harm to anybody. The air is already enough polluted by cars and other machines. So what could be the reason for this? Other than showing to people that the hyper-state can interfere in all aspects of somebody's private life?
I also don't understand why in some countries, you are not allowed to smoke in any bar/pub etc. I feel that is so evident that people who dislike the smoke go in places where smoking is not allowed (by the owner of the place, not by the state). If the big majority of people would prefere non-smoking areas, that the other places would go to bankrupcy or adapt to the market. Democracy and free market allows us to best watch our interests without the brutal intervention of the state in our personal affairs.
The health concerns are also hilarious in my opinion. Food is as dangerous as smoking and every excess of no matter what can bring you to death. And, right to life is my first right as a citizen of a democratic country. It's not a duty.
What do you think about this?

I'm afraid that votes will not change anything here. European Union starts to act like a power beyond it's citizens. And it's not only about this... there are so many "standars" that you go mad if you want to start a bussiness for example.
Merry xmas to you too. Have a nice day! :)

Sorry to hear that,I also have learnt something from the news,it is said that Italy,Ireland also take the same action as your county,to be honest,I don't think smoking is good for health, however,if it is forbidden in most of the public places,it is too strict for you smokers. In China, there is the policy which requires the people cannot smoke in the pubilc places like restaurant or hospital, bus, but there are some smoking area open for the smokers,I think it is better, though everyone knows smoking does harm on us,we can not ask all the people to give up smoking, right?
But you cannot do anything only accept this policy and be carefuly of it,good luck to you.Cheers.

I am for the banning on smoking in parks. Yes other things are already dangerous even in food but then if that is the case then why are we suppose to add other elements that are dangerous? There are foods that are dangerous but it depends on your choice if you prefer to eat the high cholesterol or other unhealthy food. Why what are the things that benefits best when you smoke? I think they want to implement that because they are also concern for the non smokers that it can harm to their health as well.

Yes, the health obsession of the new millenium... Some philosophers indentify the impatience regarding health as the new ideology we surrendered to, the new political religion of a world that doesn't accept any God anymore. It's almost the same as the old ideologies (communism, fascism).
In the name of great ideal, in the name of the absolute well-being of the others (that some, in their stupidity don't see it, but they will thank you after) you, the state, act as you know better what is good for every citizen. The ideal is, of course, a great one - a world without social classes with a new created type of man, or a world in which inferior men disappair, remaining only the most elevated of them, the arians.
Now we want a green world, and the new type of ideal man is the healthy one. We are afraid of aging and of dieing, because we losted all our clues, so we try to keep our life the most. With every cost. With the cost of our freedom.

in my country the ban was put mostly in town.i like it because some people smoked without consideration and just blew the smoke in your face.however they have designated areas in the town where they can smoke and also in bars and pubs they have some zones you can smoke,i think this is nice,so that you don't offend too many people.
