There are many conflicting opinions about WHERE the world will end. Everything in the last year or two has been so focused on THIS is the year, and many that do believe feel it will happen on December 21st. It seems that someone is angry with us (Earth)-look at the violent weather we've been having since 2004.
I'm not guessing WHEN it will end, but I'm torn between two regions that could be the site of the end. I used to think that the end would start where it all began-somewhere in the Middle East, and slowly spread outwards. But lately, it seems that there have been some really extremely violent episodes here in the United States. I know that we (the US) have the tools to engineer world-wide annihilation, but I wonder if we'd ever have the guts!
So that's my answer (one of the two)-where do you think the apocalypse will happen, and what makes you believe that?

Oh, I'm not trying to frighted you, but it was something I started thinking about. I think that during the 80s, with the buildup of nuclear weapons, was probably the closest in our life time. That was when I was truly frightened.
You'd think that we (the world) would have learned something back during WW2 when we used those atomic bombs, or maybe during Chernobyl? I don't think that we're meant to use nuclear power because it's power is so devastating and so uncontrollable.

I have long thought that we, the 'peaceful' west may well trigger an all out war that would devastate the world in a way that would make WWI seem like a walk in the park. Increasingly I hear western politicians (and ordinary folk) say that something needs to be done about the Muslims without really understanding what that word means. We have troops in that part of the world and they daily take fatal casualties. Sooner or later (I pray later) one of us is going to provoke a retaliation from an eastern nuclear power and they will retaliate using that deadly weapon. As to when....no idea but some days it feels like it might be any moment now!

I'm confused-if you're the west, then what does that make us, the USA? I'm thinking that we're part of the west too, especially when you consider that we ARE to your west.
I think that we (the US) are going to try to end an uprising with nuclear weapons, and end up blowing up half of the world up in the process.

I think that we are going to continue to have castostrophic occurences and at any point there is supposed to be a mega earth quake also. I think that alot of people misunderstood the phrophecies about December 21st. The way I heard it was that life as we know it would end on this date. I belive that people are always ready for some drama and will believe anything they are told if it is absurd and rediculous. And that they make it read however they want to too. Now I am hearing that between this December 21 and May 2013 is when something catostrophic is supposed to happen. So it is always revamped. I have been hearing that there is going to be an end to the world since the 60's and it hasn't happened yet.

It seems that many have laughed at those that embrace a green lifestyle; Al Gore, Ed Begley Jr. are two that come to mind. But I think with the increased awareness of what all of the preservatives, additives and hormones into the foods produced for consumption here in the US, as well as our awareness of the chemicals that we keep finding have seeped into the soil and water supply, they're not so strange after all.

Do you believe that the catastrophic events that have been happening have anything to do with how we poisoned the earth over the last 150 or so years?
I can almost say with a large degree of certainty that we will outlive 89-year-old Harold Camping, the radio host who predicted the world would end in 1994, and changed it to May 21, 2012 when he was proved wrong.
Unless of course a bus comes out of nowhere, and knocks us into the great unknown, but I'm thinking that the odds are in our favor in that case.
The world will end when the good Lord decides, and I seriously doubt that any of us will know in advance.

Yes, I certainly do believe that we have poisoned the earth. I recall when Clinton's vice president made the documentary about the antartic melting and so forth everyone pooed him and thought he was an idiot. I don't think we will know much in advance when the world will end. Harold Camping is one of many who have made different predictions. I think it is something mankind is always afraid of and the predictions will just keep coming.

Hahaha.. I really thought it will start today in our country.. Because when I was about to go for work at 8am in the morning. It started to rain so fast and wind was blowing so hard and fast, and there was no announcement for any typhoon in our country..So fast and heavy that it creates a flood on our drainage areas and lowland areas. But still happy, it only lasted for almost 20minutes, and the rain stop and sun was slowly smiling on us. I guess its still not the end, or maybe it is just coming...

That sounds like fun-I went to the supermarket today, along with everyone else it seemed, and purchased enough food for us to make it through New Year's. I saw an expert on the Mayan culture on the news, and she assured everyone that the world is NOT ending tomorrow-she said that the Mayans were wrong, and that a new piece of the puzzle was just discovered in the jungle.

I'm not so sure that it's ignorance; it strikes me more as paranoia. While I believe in the bible, prophets and Jesus, it WAS a long time ago. I'm not so sure that we (as humans) can continue to apply recent past (in the last 200 years) and present events to the Bible, the Mayan calendar or Nostradamus' writings without inducing some fear in the world. It's just silly, but unfortunately, there are some people that believe it.

They think that the apocalypse will happen here first? (the US). You brought up a good point-that would be so horrible to watch people die and not to be able to do a thing. That type of scenario makes me think of Steven King's novel The Stand. Some of the characters had to watch family and friends die of this horrible virus that was being transmitted in the air. To me, I'd be so upset if I had to go through something similar.

I was asking WHERE it would start, not WHEN it would start. But to answer your response-the majority of the world's nuclear weapons are really controlled by two countries: the United States and Russia. But there are countries that won't have any, like Japan: I believe that they gave up their military as part of the WW2 peace treaty. I don't think that many African nations are anywhere near being ready to have a nuclear weapon either. What's scary is the possibility that someone in the Middle East might have a nuclear weapon-they don't truly seem to understand what it would do if detonated.

Hmmmm... we are only humans. Only God knows where and when it will happen the apocalypse. It was said in the bible and besides, I still don't understand why some people create a hoax about the end of the world in december 21st because according to some NDE testimony that I read, the world would not end. That is all.

Much of the "world will end on X date" is started by people who probably didn't know or understand the Mayan calendar or Nostradamus' writings. Believers and scientists have been at odds for years. I feel that God has basically let us have Free Will since Adam bit into the apple, and that He has a grand plan.

You're welcome, scorpiobabes.
Actually, there are two things happening on this planet simultaneously, we are growing as a civilization and this planet is getting polluted by us. The first one is good for us and the second one is bad for us. If we grow at a faster rate. We can overcome the difficulties and become level 1 civilization then we'll be able to avoid the dooms day, otherwise, it's possible anywhere in this world. This link will give you an idea about types of civilization:

mankind is -imo- able to prevent asteroid ''attacks'' from space. That can be done with nuclear bombs, the only real purpose of that sh*te. So I'd exclude that possibility unless we were stupid enough to ignore an approaching asteroid.
The next big danger I see would be a rapid geographic pole-shift which most scientists believe cannot happen. But there are still people on this planet that think that the Deluge, the Great Ice Ages, the sinking of Atlantis etc may have been connected to such a world-wide event. So the 'where' would be 'everywhere' (or almost).
The red giant that our Sun will become in a couple of billion years would also be a world-wide event.
A supervulcano could indeed start the apocalypse at a certain location on Earth. Say Yellowstone for example but it would probably not mean the end of all life.
So unless a nuclear war occurs or a major nuclear accident I'd go for a world-wide disaster and the cause would - imo - be something along the lines of a f*cked up environment by man.

But according to this article: http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/climate-weather/stories/magnetic-north-shifting-by-40-miles-a-year-might-signal-pole-r, the magnetic north pole is shifting at a considerably faster rate than ever before. And that massive earthquake that happened in Japan actually shifted the pole quite a bit. I think that shift with the addition of global warming is really messing with the ecological systems. But I really don't think that is what will contribute to the apocalypse.
There are truly only a few reasons to unless nuclear weapons; to stop a war like we did when we detonated the two in Japan for example. But today's weapons are considerably more powerful, and are more for insulation against an attack. But according to this article I found: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/28/asteroid-telescope-protect-earth-space-rocks_n_1634239.html, they are considering the idea. But I don't think that an asteroid will be the cause because we'll have enough warning. I also don't think that a super volcano will be what causes it either.
I really think that someone is going to have a freak out fit and hit the panic button that detonates all of the weapons. And THAT would probably not be something that we can escape.

I doubt that the Apocalypse will happen at one place, then spread elsewhere. Nobody knows how, where, nor when the Apocalypse is gonna start, nor how it will end.
I usually think that it will happen everywhere, since no region on this planet is safe from any kind of danger. So, I think for starters that Japan is in for a serious earthquake for starters, then a tsunami to pick off any stragglers. Same for the West Coast, and the East Coast is going to suffer a Category 5+ Hurricane.
@scorpiobabes (7225)

21 Dec 12
What's nice is that everyone is entitled to their opinions, and the answers here (within the discussion) have been quite varied.
Japan has had some very serious earthquakes already this past year, sparking a horrible tsunami. Do you think that perhaps it will eventually break apart to create smaller islands, or maybe even sink? As for a Category 5 hurricane hitting the East coast, possibly the costliest and most destructive hurricane to hit the coast line in more than 40 years was Sandy-and that was merely a Category 2. I don't see anything more happening to the East coast, other than some drastic changes to the coast line. Maybe some of the barrier islands will disappear.
Actually, I think that we (as humans) are more in danger of having a non naturally-occurring apocalypse happening, like a huge nuclear war. I can SO see that happening, especially as less powerful countries develop a technology that don't really understand what it can do.

Just my projection...a hundred thousand years from now large parts of Asia will be in total state of distress (China/India)...other countries will be totally banning people from other places....the oil that the earth use as it's fuel will be in small reserves deep in the core. With this the earth's capability to handle space gravitational pull will be affected since the earth's core is slowly draining it's fuel...the earth now is like a drying fruit hanging on a tree.

Why do you think that it would start in Asia? China and India to be specific-is it because of the high concentration of people in such a small area? I can so see the United States banning people from here; look at how divisive our country was during the last Presidential election!
Do you really think that we (people of earth) will still be searching for oil in 1000 years, or do you think that we'll keep working on alternative fuels? I'm surprised that we've developed synthetic oil for lubrication purposes, but for some reason, all attempts to create synthetic fuel seems to have been aborted.

Hi,
It all depends upon where the conflict has always been. Apocalypse is always associated with the ultimate war, the Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil. The way I see it, war has always happened in the middle east since time immemorial, and yes, maybe it shall start there. Yet the theaters of war are not static and nobody can really predict when and where it shall start. Not on this day, 21 December 2012 not there in the Middle East definitely.

I agree-the world will NOT end tomorrow. But I think that there will be a test similar to the survival of the fittest, and perhaps we'll see a lot fewer people walking on earth. I just don't want to guess just when that would happen.
I don't see the US getting out of the Middle East any time soon-but maybe if we just tried to stop making the Middle East an extension of the US, there could be peace.

I'm familiar with Revelations in the Bible, though it has been some time. I don't think that the end is going to happen all at once; instead, the Lord is making His selections already as to who will be in heaven, and who will be in hell. But you're right-only our Heavenly Father knows, and all we can do is wait, and believe so that we may one day join Him.

I'm not exactly sure where it will start, but I do agree there have been an awful lot of bad things happening here in the good ole US. I believe what the Bible says. It says that not even the angels beside God's thrown know when the world will end. So, I'm not going to worry about when it will end, or if it will end in my lifetime or not! God has ruled this world since the beginning and I'm sure He knows what He's doing! Don't worry about it and don't lose sleep over it! None of us can change the fact that the world will end- one day.

I thought we humans are intelligent creatures. Tell me, who created the heavens and the earth. That same person has helped us to understand that the earth will remain forever and that only the wicked ones will be cleansed from it. What are you still discussing about the apocalypse for. The end of wicked humans will come as a thief in the night. The end of wickedness will come, but not now. So why don't you go about your normal activity and think of how you can remove wickedness from your dealings.
Do you really want to know how the wicked ones will be removed from this earth, then ping me and how tell you.

The Lord created the heavens AND the earth. Everyone that was born after Cain and Able was born with Original Sin, and that is why we're in the mess we're in. No person created us and everything we see-the Lord did, and He isn't a person.
I've been working every day to remove MY wickedness; how about the rest of the world? How about YOU? And I'll be back to do my normal activities in a little while, once I finish answering everyone that's been polite enough to leave a comment.
As for why I chose to discuss the apocalypse, have you read our FAQs here? This is nothing more than the topic I chose to introduce a discussion. One must search prior to starting a new discussion, and this one seems to have started a healthy dialogue between users. That was my intention.
