The Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheela Dixit on the other day makes a statement in one of her public meeting or press conference that Rs.600/- is sufficient for a family of 5 to have their basic food comprising of Rice, Roti and pulses. It is really surprising to see how leaders of her caliber can and capacity can make such irresponsible statement! Her statement has raised many eyebrows in disbelief! This is nothing but making fun of poverty and also the dignity of poor people of the country. If we calculate as per her statement, Rs.600/- divided by 30 days comes out to be 20/- rupees. And if this 20/- is to be distributed amongst 5 members of the family then each would get Rs.4/- as his/her share, which is equivalent to 8 US cents. With this small amount can a person have his/her meals for three times? Even the cheapest brand of a packet of a biscuits costs more than this! Her statement was very strongly condemned and opposed by many opposition leaders and the eminent persons of the Society and very soon she has given a new twist to the statement to safeguard herself! The whole episode tells about the seriousness of the leaders about the poor people of the country and about their welfare. It is really very shameful thing that the leaders even don’t know how much money is needed by an ordinary man to meet his minimum requirements in the form of food on daily basis. Unfortunately these poor people are lured and shown big dreams every time before the elections and their votes are grabbed by these politicians leaving their fate in dark as usual after the elections. This is very unfortunate that even after 65 years of independence the state of affairs are remaining same as they were before , rather getting deteriorated , as far as poverty is concern!

Dear Rao ji, She is the Chief Minister of Delhi and there is no chance to know about the plight of common people. Most of the pulses cost more 100 rs per kg. I think we should send her to a shop in person to know about the prices of the commodities. If she can’t go then at least shut her mouth and stand in a corner. Many times I felt shame on her with her nonsense statements. (I agree she has done many things to improve Delhi). Once she said that Delhities are rich people and they can afford money… Does she think that all people residing in Delhi are rich, if she thinks that way she is not at all fit for the Chief Minister’s chair. (Here also I agree rich people are in Delhi. In those families, each and every own their own vehicle use own vehicle only to travel, which add the rush in road. Despite of building many fly-overs, under paths and introducing metro trains, Delhi’s road become busier to busiest on everyday).

In the past Kings were seen playing the Fiddle while the City was on flame and people asked to eat cake if they were not in a position to eat bread! This is the history and it is repeating itself in the contemporary form. As you said how she can have any idea about the commodities when she feels that every Delhite is a moneyed person! For her Delhi is a prosperous City without any problems as every thing can be procured with money by people as all of them are rich! Yes. I agree with your latter part of the response also! A single person drives a big car in the traffic thus not only creating traffic problem but also wasting a lot of national and natural fuel of petrol or Diesel. We can't help it this is a common picture we get to see in Delhi on daily basis! Now since people are busy today with the Gang rape issue, she got spared otherwise, this issue was strongly opposed by many media channels and opposition leaders! Hope in future she will be careful and sensible before giving any statements pertaining to the plights of common man! Thanks a lot dear Sreekala for responding!

Well Mr Rao She is the chief minister, she enjoys so many benefits now as well as in the past, how much a meal costs for them in the MP/VIP canteen all know that very well. She definitely knows cost of rice/dal/oil/vegetable as well as non-vegs It is really unfortunate to hear this. Thanks for sharing. MERRY X'MAS CHEERING

Yes Sir, I agree with you! I am really surprised to hear such an irresponsible statements from a Lady in the capacity of CM who is an ex IAS! If such statement is made even after knowing the facts and figures, then it is much more serious mistake she has committed! I really don't think she must be having any idea about the cost of day to day needed commodities required for a poor man! Merry Christmas to you too sir, have a nice day! Thanks for your kind response!

It is really very sad thing for the people of Delhi that their CM is so insensitive towards the problems of poor people. I personally feel that she should realize soon that she has made a big mistake and she must act immediately to mend her mistake or else it will become a big problem for her.

You are absolutely right dear deserve! The leaders elected by the people become insensitive once they have won the elections and occupy the chair of power! It is really very pathetic to see such meaningless and irresponsible statements are being done from a leader of her cadre! Well though she has indirectly conveyed her apologies about the whole issue by giving a new dimension to the statement, people are still not happy about her! Unfortunately now people have a current issue of gang rape with them, she is spared for thus time, as all of them are busy in protesting against the heinous crime occurred in the Capital five days back! Thanks a lot for responding dear friend! God bless!

May be the chief minister of Delhi has no idea Indian people need to eat three meals a day, she thought that every Indian can just eat half a meal with some grasses in a day in order to survive. Or She could have come to the belief that they don't need much money to live in India since federal government provide free food, housing, education, and health care to every Indian citizen. But you can rest assure statement like this is not just uttered from Indian official, we can hear crappy public statement like this too from our elected politicians here, i usually just shrug it off, just don't know what to think of her.

Yes, dear Lampar from the statement what she made I too feel the same like you! I am really surprised to see that a lady who is ex IAS, which means that she, belongs to extremely intellectual class, is making such irresponsible comments! I am not surprised to know that such statements are made by politicians all over the World as all politicians they belong to same class of ruling the people and they are only interested in acquiring the power and least bothered abut the problems of the people! Yes, most of us just shrug such things off, but now we have got some good social sites like this with us I have tried to raise this issue hereto know about the opinions of my fellow friends here! Thanks a lot for responding dear friend!

She probably does not buy her basic food herself... Many of our past presidents did not knew the price of a bread or of a subway ticket. The true question is : would they have governed better if they had known these prices ? Politicians are living in a different world than common people and they are all more or less out of touch with reality. I am not sure it will change soon.

You are very correct dear Topffer! Politicians they have got their own World with their own morals and values! They hardly know anything about the common man's plights and difficulties! That is why we need to elect the leaders from the society who is well aware of he basic needs and the basic difficulties of he common man! But this is asking for too much! Yes, we get desperate and frustrated too with the situation. But with the changing trend in the society because of well informed youth and educated youth of today, I am hopeful to see a change in the system! Thanks a lot for responding dear Topffer!
