How important is the time you go to bed?

I overheard some ladies talking today. One said that if you go to bed after 23:00 then the sleep doesn't help you the same, as it does if you sleep earlier, no matter how long you sleep. I was just curious, does anyone know if this is the case? Or at least if there is some truth to that? I thought that if this would be the case, then it would be better for mankind to be nocturnal, sleep at day and live in the night.:P

and aside from that... there were several studies linking the sleep deprivation to gaining weight. It was found out the most of the overweight individuals lack sleep. Why is this so? Mostly, gaining weight is usually taking place when the person is overeating. Thus resulting to inability to curb the appetite.
During wake time, people produce hormone called ghrelin responsible for appetite stimulation. so the more people would want to eat that drives the leptin level down, which control the feeling of hunger and fullness.
for more information you may want to check the following sites.

Sometimes, if the person don't like to sleep, the person tends to eat.. and eat.. and eat to keep awake. Have you notice that during long talk on a symposium and meeting, attendees are offered candies?
this is just to keep them awake during the boring talk of the speaker hehehe... but seriously... lack of sleep would cause weight gain. the more the person is awake at the night the more, the person tend to snacking.

This is very interesting! Thanks a lot for your answer! But what I am curious about, does it matter what time you sleep? As long as you sleep the needed amount of hours per day, I believe you will not have any problems, such as gaining weight. I don't think it matters if you sleep 8 straight hours beginning deom 03:00 am, or if your sleep begins before midnight.

The body calls for the sleep. My belief... we have biological clock, in our system. So my body calls for sleep.. that's the time I need to sleep. and from the day's activity i don't think my body will call it in at 3am. I don't go to sleep if I am not sleepy because it will just give me a headache and I will just ponder on so many thoughts, which will lead me to keep awake. I usually retire at 10pm. though during parties,I don't doze at 10pm automatically. I can stay up until morning without falling asleep on the table.
Have you noticed when you sick, you have the tendency to sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep... Well you system is fighting over the sickness and your brain tells you take a rest. That's why even if you don't like to sleep you feel sleepy or you really need to sleep.

What an ear you got there! Real sensitive, aren't they?
Well I never heard of this before, and I'm not really sure if it's true. Every night I sleep beyond 24:00 and it seems okay for me. When I sleep early, I feel uncomfortable when I wake up. I think it depends on the training or the sleeping habit of the person.

All body needs rest. Sleep early, the body rests well sleep late the body rests not sufficiently - simple. Not to over-rest anyway.

it depends on your inner clock. for example, I am not working at the present time, so I get my very best sleep from 6am to 12 noon. basically because that is the time of day when I am least productive. I chose that. However, I usually need a nap around 4pm or 8pm. No matter what I do I cannot escape the fact that I need a nap.
