Not Enough Sleep - Am I Killing Myself?

I have been under too much stress lately. A lot of miserable things have happened in my life with a couple of months or so. Pretty much lost my beloved. Lost my job and have been on the computer most of each day searching for new jobs and earning online some bucks. As a result, I have been sleeping irregularly - a few hours each day, and within the various times of day, not the regular 11pm to 7am.
Have I lost any years of my life? I'm trying to get back into the regular routine. However, I have not succeeded yet. Depression, lack of income security, and other factors have affected me very deeply. Today, probably, is going to be the first night, during which I will get the full hours of sleep.

Hi ivan, Sorry to hear that you have lost your job and hope that you will find another soon. It is natural to feel stress at such a time and that of course, is why you have trouble sleeping. Don't worry, it hasn't taken years off your life and you will be fine again soon and get back to your regular sleep habits. Blessings.

Thanks to everyone for your sound advices. What has really worked is love, actually. I have had a conversation yesterday with my beloved. She has been stressed a lot by my lack of trust. And it was over nothing, after all. I believe she's a good girl, and the fact that we both need to seek counsel help is evident to her, too. We need to develop mutual understanding and put 100% trust in each other. This conversation has comforted me a lot. This means that nothing is lost yet - we will get back together, but only after we solve our individual problems that prevent us form having a happy relationship. My main problem is anger, and she gets upset over little things like crying over a bad mark in school.
So, now, as I have fixed my communication with my girlfriend, I am not as stressed. I still have some income through the internet, so it will help cope with the lack of job for now.

I am sorry to hear about your situation but you should try to get out of it as soon as possible. First, better you take rest, try to travel to somewhere 1-2 days. You are calm down and you may have more idea to find a job or know what to do...when you go to sleep, don't think anything else, just try to think of nice thing and then sleep. Don't put stress on yourself, i hope when you can sleep, when you are happy and thinking positive, many nice chances will go to you.
I wish you all the best!!!
Merry xmas!

That's how I felt too last month. I mostly slept late at around 2 or 4am until I could hear the roosters crow. I would feel weak during the day and feel sleepy. I tried to establish times I could do certain things and it has helped me not to sleep late.

Yes, you are.We all need sleep so no matter how many problems we have in life, losing sleep won't solve them. Sleep and have a clear mind and sound body so you will be able to function normally. You can try getting the help of a doctor or therapist to help you with medications that will help you sleep.

This is so true. Meditations can also help a lot. If you are a Catholic, and you believe in Rosary, you can say a rosary, on your bed. It is okay if you fall asleep in praying they won't mind. they say that rosary is like a lullaby that will help you put to sleep in no time.

You really need to get enough sleep in order for you to be able to handle stress accordingly. Stress and sleep deprivation are two of the reasons why we get sick. I suggest you get back on track and have at least 8 hours of sleep. You'll also be able to think better once you get ample hours of sleep time.

Sleep deprivation is not good for your health but I can understand why you may not be able to sleep. Having to cope with the problems that you're experiencing now can cause you not to be able to sleep well.
I know that it's easy to tell you to relax but it's not easy given your situation but you must understand that stress can also affect your health negatively. Perhaps you can talk to someone about your fears.
I hope things will get better for you and you'll find a job soon. Things can't get any more worse than it is now. There's always a silver lining somewhere.

What have you been doing online??? You want to earn online some bucks and you get to sleep for only a few hours? So that means you are earning more than enough because you've sitting your 'assss' all day? Ah, sorry for that word...

hi so sad but you should not continue this . This type of life style disturbs us a lot and we loose our peace . So first try to concentrate on your routine work stop working in the odd timings. I hope you realize this by now and will try to make proper use of time and proper schedule about work.

Hey, we are alike. I have no regular job, and have been spending some wasteful months searching for suitable job. Now and then I got a few bucks from online earning, but God knows, it amount to nothing. Fortunately my parent haven't kick me out. Sleepless nights, i tried to fill them with job hunting, and online earnings, but it is to no avail. A good night sleep once in a while would be good for you.

In your case,I think the first thing you should do is go take a good rest, and pls find a good place and have a short travel, then use this to forget all the bad things happen to you.
Good luck to you and I think you surely can handle this.

Sorry to hear that you have been under so much stress. It is hard when it seems everything in our life is starting to go wrong. I hardly get any sleep as well. I stay up late either working at my job outside of home, working online or taking care of things around the house. Not getting the proper sleep is not good for us. We need to have a balance but this can be hard when so many different things are happening.
I hope that you will be able to get your schedule into a regular routine. It is hard to do though. I can empathize with what you are going through. So many people I'm sure are experiencing similar trials too.

We're in the same situation actually, I'm having a trouble sleeping at right time. Sometimes when I must sleep early for me to able to get up early on the next day, I end up not sleeping the whole night. I don't know exactly if this will degrade my health but I really feel everyday in less energy and my head is like always having an air inside, and I can't concentrate enough in something that I need to do. I'm doing my best right now to get back too in the right routine time of sleeping but not that easy at first, still my thoughts is very awake, I think I need more practice of sleeping routine for night time... :D

I'm not enough of an expert to say whether or not you're killing yourself, but I do know that not getting enough sleep will eventually catch up to you, and not in a good way. I'm not sure what your level of fitness is, but I think that exercising would help with your stress. It would also tire you out, and cause you to sleep better. My sleep patterns are pretty messed up as well, but you can overcome all of the obstacles you're facing. Good luck to you :)

Getting enough sleep is as important as drinking 8 glasses of water a day. It helps our body recharge for the next days of our life. You may not feel anything bad right now but it will eventually manifest as we age. So as early as now, we should not abuse our body. As we grow older, things can get even worse. Not getting enough sleep can't help us be in our optimum performance anyway.
