I found a recipe online its just water, salt, and flour to make homemade ornaments for your tree. I was thinking of trying this for the brats, instead of buying the kits online.

we used to make those when I was a kid... then once my son brought them home from school. Have fun there.

Make a flat shape and do a paw print in the middle from each one. You would have a real memory there.

That's what I was thinking, and put their names on them.

I've used that before and they came out great. Be aware that if the ornaments are very thick they will be heavy. I used food coloring to color small amounts of the dough before shaping ornaments from them.

I'm sure it would be cheaper. You should be able to make them as thin as you like, but if they're too thin, they break easily. Have fun!

I may make them middle thickness, as I plan on having a small tree, so if it's too heavy it wont stay on the tree.

They look thick in the pictures online. I thought it would be cheapier to make cute ornaments for the animals, than buy the kits online. Its all natural ingredients so it wont hurt them.

There are tons of great dough recipes, and I hope this one works well for you. There are even some that are made of ground cinnamon. Have a ton of fun doing this. You can make them so personal as well

I know a lady gave us a cute ornament out of a gingerbread man recipe. Smells so good, and cute on the tree.

Are they the ones you bake or no? I have seen both kinds of recipes. I think making them is a good idea. Much cheaper than buying a kit online.

Yes, you bake them for a few hours on a low heat. I find they last longer than the no bake ones.

I love making Do it Yourself Crafts, it also saves you in terms of buying some decorations for the holidays. It also gives a personal touch to your ornaments. Happy Holidays!

I am sure back in the day I can remember doing something like this. I know I do remember doing this with a clay like recipe you could use food coloring with to change the colors. Anytime you can do something to save a little money and give things a homemade touch you always can impress as well.

if you add cinnamon they smell good... maybe catnip would make them interesting to the cats...

I was thinking catnip but then they might eat it. They already climb the tree, and adding a reason Im sure wouldnt help Cinnamon might be nice as well.

I know my parents have some from us as kids. I thought it would be cute for all the animals to have one, when I move out on my tiny tree.

They are cute, and I know a couple people who have had them for years from their kids. I thought when I moved out, it would be neat to have them on my tree.

That's a great idea. I like making homemade ornaments and wish that I had more time to do this this year. Next year I am hoping that things will be better. It is the 23rd and I am still decorating the house and the tree. I had been so busy with school and all of Randy's doctor's appointments. My three cats will be getting a stocking each with toys, cat treats, cat food and catnip.

There are so many ideas on line, with things we have in our own homes. I love to do crafts with the kids.
