I'm sick and freezing

It's finally winter here. It's 53 out today. Yesterday was colder and very windy. I feel really sick to my stomach. I had hot chocolate with pumpkin spice creamer in it. Ie was so good, but I suddenly got sick with dumping syndrome. I cannot tolerate sweet liquids at all because they funnel straight into my small intestine v
I have the chills and have on my hoody sweat shirt from Delta State University in Mississippi. My daughter bought it when we vacationed a couple of winters ago. It's thick and warm, but I'm so cold I can't even get warm.
Our winters are not severe like up north, but we have had a blizzard and ice storm before. Not sure what this year will be like. Last winter was like spring and summer all season. Not so now. It's way cold for me.
We only keep the heat on at night, and a little in the day. I'm covered up with 2 thick comforters.
Hope you all are keeping warm. We don't run the heat all the time to keep the bill down.

some hot unsweetened tea might help your tummy. Are your feet warm. Make sure you wear socks. Maybe some fingerless gloves so you can type. We have a heated mattress pad and do not run heat to speak of in the sleeping area. The thermostat is set at 66. 53 is about what we are having but for Kansas in December that is warm. Do you ever make rice bags that you can warm up in the microwave and they are like portable heating pads. Fill a sock with cheap rice or beans and tie off or sew shut the cuff. Heat it one to two minutes in the microwave and then put it on your chilled areas.

SOunds like you have the virus that seems to be going around. I would tell you to take Pepto Bismol and eat the BRAT diet. That is bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Keep warm and hope you have a Merry Christmas.

That sure sounds nice. I remember the first time I fixed dinner for my mom and grandmom. It was so nice to give back to them after so many holiday dinners they had fixed. Have a merry one.

A bitter 53 degrees? Around here, that would be considered downright balmy in December. Actually, when we hit those temps, there were still a lot of people out in shorts; I wasn't one of them, but I was still walking around without a coat for the most part.
You just have to stick to balanced meals. I don't really know what will make you feel better right now other than maybe some mint tea and rest.

Make that gallon of tea, then heat it up one cup at a time in the microwave. It will warm you up inside.

I don't have any tea other than the big bags that make a gallon if iced tea. I'm okay now. I hot my hood on over my head. I put socks on and have one glove on for now lol. My nose is stuffy.
We get used to it being warm and then when it gets a little cold we really feel it.

I hope that you are feeling better. It is awful when we don't feel good. I often get sick if I drive and eat before or after. Sometimes it doesn't matter though and I still get sick. It is an awful feeling. I hope that you turned your heat up as well so that you stay warm.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Wow I don't know if I would be able to handle our thermastat being that low. I think I would turn into a pop sickle. I'm so happy we live where we are now. We use to live in an old farm house where we would have to heat with wood. There were times when it would get really cold.

I keep the heat at 68 degrees, but we don't normally run it in the day. We have it on at night and turn it off around 9 AM. I'm feeling done better this morning.

There seems to be something going around that causes chills and fever. It's the time of year for viruses. I second GardenGerty's suggestion of keeping your feet warm. If nothing else, warm a towel in the microwave and wrap your feet in that. Take it from someone who is very familiar with blizzards and cold weather. Covering up helps but if you're cold to begin with, a little extra warmth makes all the difference in the world.

Yep. After I read GG's post I put socks on and put on my hoody again. I also put gloves on for awhile. When I got hit again I removed the hoody but kept my socks on.

so far we have been doing okay, the city has kept the heat on. So it is nice and warm here. You may be coming down with the flu. Or the next time you go to the doctor as her to check your thyroid again.

It's ONLY 53 degrees?! That's almost like Spring weather over here where I live. I don't mean to be mean but I almost laughed out loud when you said you were covered up w/ two thick comforters. You would seriously die from the cold if you lived in PA right now. Looking at my Weather.com app it says it's 28 degrees outside, but that it feels like it's 19 degrees. We have about 3 to 4 inches of snow on the ground & ice under that in some places. You want to talk cold you come to PA for about a week or two & then when you go back home I bet you would never complain about it being 53 degrees ever again.... LOL

I have lived in the south for almost 40 years. I used to live in NY. I know what cold weather felt like. But now here this is cold when we have acclimated to warm winters in the near 80s like last year. Yesterday was bitter cold. The wind was blowing and felt freezing even though it wasn't. When I was younger, this cold didn't affect me like it does now.

It's just 60 degrees here in the house right now. I'm wearing a sweat shirt and hoody over my PJ's and wearing socks. I had gloves on but can't type with them on. I get cold and hot back and forth. I just turned the heat on. We keep the thermostat set for 70 degrees but only run it at night, and occasionally in the day to keep the bill down.

I absolutely love the winter weather and the colder the better. I have no problems during this season, but I experience severe problems when the weather warms up. I cannot tolerate the heat, at all, and I become ill when I get too hot. I can sympathize with you even though I wouldn't be able to relate to being too cold! We are expecting a huge snowstorm in Oklahoma for Christmas and I am so excited. It is rare that we have snow for Christmas and even more so this year because we have been in a drought cycle. Unfortunately, this will probably cripple travel in the state because the storm is anticipated to lay down a layer of sleet before the snow. That means roads will be treacherous. I won't care because I'll stay at home with the kids and travel back to work when the roads permit. Unfortunately, it will probably only delay my departure time by a few hours because it doesn't stay that cold here for very long.

It's rather cold here, too, today. I've had the fireplace on all day. Usually I have to turn it off for a few hours because it would get too hot in here. But today, I have my thick robe on over my clothes and my feet are still cold in socks and shoes.

Hi PQ! I know what you mean about some of the creamers or foods that have some milk products in them. If I have certain creamers, it will affect me to were I'm in the bathroom in hardly any time at all. Then other creamers don't affect me that way. Sheesh.
As far as keeping warm, I'm sitting here with my winter coat over my shoulders to kind of create a tent to capture the heat from the baseboard heater that is coming up from under my table. I have the table right up against the wall just above the heater. My hands are a bit chilled so I think I'll have to knit myself a pair of fingerless gloves.
I think I'll get out my electric blanket tonight so I can get warmed up before I go to sleep. I think that's the best purchase I've made in quite a long time. I hate being cold when I'm ready to go to sleep.
