What are now major employers pay more attention to? Working experience or degree? When I was in college,my English teaher used to hold a debate on this.At that time,I regarded degree is more important. One main reason is that some employers regard degree as a key to the interview,if you do not have a degree, you don't even have a chance to get the offer. Please give me your opinons.

Hi summer0614, in today's society, to have a degree is a very common and basic qualification required by most corporation in employing a staff. However, having some years of working experience would be a greater advantage in getting a job. Without a degree in hand, a well-known industry would question a person's ability. Although having a certificate in hand doesn't mean a person is really good compared to a person with experience, but to gain working experience requires time. For example, a person with degree can immediately obtained a job. Some can even earn higher or sitting at a higher position compared to a staff with more years of experience. In this era, certificate has become a compulsory achievement instead of just obtaining working experience. However, i would say both are required, whereby degree is a basic foundation to enter into the working world, which also gives a higher probability of being hired by reputable company; and working experience would bring you to a higher level of growth to your career success. This is just my personal opinion. Have a nice day.

Well, that would have to depends on how interesting his Resume is. Whether or not he can attract the attention of the employment company very much depends on himself. Those company who views manually on each resume may have a chance of hiring him if they find him useful. However, companies which uses auto-filter for those without degree would be a disadvantage for him. Anyhow, no harm trying to submit his application and give it a try. We never knows what happen. Never try, never know.

Thanks for your opinion.I am still wondering what if the person have no degrees, but have years of working experience, how can he get the interviw in the company which mainly focus on person's degrees. That is to say he can't even get the key to the door,so there is no chance for him to show others his wonderful experience.

These factors are both important in finding a job because in reality it will be your advantage to get hired easily. But there are companies who gives more considerations to applicants who have work experience than to those who have less or to the newbies. But i think companies should give chances to those who are fresh graduates, we should understand that these applicants are applying to have work experience so how can they have professional growth development if they are not considered. Companies should weigh everything when it comes to this matter.

I think it is actually both that is important. Depending on the kind of work or job you are applying for, some job openings require you to be a bachelor's graduate to be qualified to apply for a certain position. Here in our country especially many careers do require one to be graduate of at least any 4 year course, some 2 year courses were not even qualified to be a degree acceptable in huge organizations. Of course work experience is also important for those who want a career move and an advancement in their career, move up the corporate ladder, with experience, some does equate this to more salary or money, as well.

Experience is important but how can those professionals have experience if they don't landing on the jobs depending on their degree. Do you think there are people who are experts in the field they assign for in the company if they don't hire and train?

In USA a degree is more important. It really depends on where you live at. I was a RN and change to BSN to find a better job. Merry Christmas!

I guess around 20 years ago, working experience mattered more than the degree. The companies believed that an experienced person can really take them forward no matter if his qualification is a bit less but now things have changed. This is the world of competition now. Every one believes better the education better the job. Working experience does not matter that much now. Companies now believe that in a fast moving world degree ha to be the most important, experience will come by time. I really don't know whether it is the correct thinking or not?

The first thing that employers look when hiring a potential employee is a persons degree, followed by experience. Thus, degree is more important. However, both of them is related and it moves along together. You just make sure that the experience that you are gaining in your work is related to your degree, otherwise, both your degree and experience will just produce less impact.

I think it depends on the job and the degree. I feel as though something such as "business management" is going to get you a lot further (with no experience) than a degree like "history" or "women's studies". But it depends. I am still in the process of going to school and getting my degree, in which I do not know quite yet what I want it in -- but a lot of my friends have graduated and they are now trying to find a relevant job "in the real world" where they can use their degrees with. And they are not having much luck at all. So I think a combination is probably important, a combination in a degree and experience. Just because you went to college doesn't mean you have any of the skills for this new, upper-management job, but employers do seem to give an educated prospective employee the upper hand. But I think it seems to be a team effort.

hi summer0614, for your question: Which is more important in finding a job, working experience or degree? 1) it depends on the position you are applying. usually, if you are a fresh graduate applying for a junior position, then you are more likely need to have a higher education certificate to be able to apply for the position. this is the easiest way to filter or to prevent massive applications received. if they don't filter out using this way, it will be impossible for them to interview everyone. even by doing so, there were also too many graduates with degree nowadays and will have to take a long time to further filter and therefore an interesting resume is needed to grab the attention. if you are applying for a senior position whereby long working experience is needed, then your degree is not actually needed. they will not ask you to show your degree but will interview you more on what you know and experience in your previous job. you will easily be judged by the way you answer their question based on your experience. they will easily know whether you are able to handle the job from the interview based on your market/field knowledge. and if that's what they were looking for, they will hire you without even asking you to show your degree. 2) it depends on the company's policy, whereby different company has their own different policy. some companies don't care about your education certificate but more interested in your experience in the field. if you were a person without a high education certificate, but you were a well-known employee in your field, you are still more likely to be hired, because what a company wants is an employee who could help in the tasks given to solve the problem and to cause the growth of the company.

In our country,a degree is more important. Prospective employers always look for it in hiring applicants. However if you ask me personally, I think experience is more important than a degree because it seems like schools are not doing a very good job in training graduates who don't know how to work when hired for the first time.

i think both degree as well as experience is required to find a good job for yourself without degree no body will give you job. to start as a fresher you require a degree . to get better salary your experience will work .

I guess this depends on the company and the job you are applying to. In my current job as an IT Tech Support, the company is looking for work related experience than the degree. I have a degree in Industrial Psychology which is way far to my current work. But honestly, when I initially apply to my current company, they do not care about experience or my degree, as long as I pass their extensive exam, they can take care of the training for me. Hehe

Hi, I think for employers degree is more important. But sometimes some employers give importance to experience also. But I think degree and experience both is important. Because only knowledge is not important knowledge is useful when it is applied.

Before graduation from university,I do think degree is the most important. But when I began to find a job,I just realized that working experience tends to be more significant than degree.I have met some people which holds the high degree, they failed to finish the simple work.Nothing is better than practice. In China, degree may be easily to get than working experience. When you have skillful working experience, you will surly be confident in finging a job.The employer would like to hire a experienced person who can handle the work quickly rather than the one who graduated from a famous university but knows nothing about the work.Because it will take much time to teach him or do some tranning for him/her,and finally,he may quit the job sometimes,it would be a loss to a company.

I have found that work experience is VERY important. You may have the educational background that is required for a position, but employers like to see that you have history working in the same field. It's unfortunate when you know you are a great candidate for a position, and know that the only reason the employer doesn't pick you is because you do not have any previous experience.

Sometimes t depends on the age of the person. An office might look for a particular age since the other workers in the office are around that age. For example the workers might be aged 20 to 28 years old. The manager might be aged 47 years old. Therefore people aged 52 and 67 years old might thought too old to work there. A school leaver aged 16 to 18 years old might not have much experience. He or she might have done well in his or her exams. Due to his or her age range the job would be fairly junior. Some jobs are only open to graduates. That is my sort of job you see because I am a primary school teacher. To do my type of job the person needs a degree in a National Curriculum subject and qualified teacher status. A vet would need to have a vet degree. A mix of a degree and some work experience is best. During my university time I did school experience plus some teaching whilst being watched. Some teaching contracts are a one year contract. I had one of those in my first year of primary school teaching.

Well, certain degrees are minimum pre-requisite for certain jobs. However, after that it is all about individual attitude, performance, and work experience. Degrees do help us knowledge wise but after that it is what a person acquires on job that matters.

Per my experience, English communication is their main standard in hiring an Employee. If you're good in English and conversant using that language, you're in.

It depends on the company’s qualification on their job hiring most especially in big companies they prefer much on both experience and degree. But for some jobs, they require experience. But if you like to settle on a high position, some might require you a degree before they put you on training.

I think experience is most important to consider because it is where you will know the capabilities of a person in doing an assign task or work.. there are also some people who don't have a degree but excells in their field due to determination and perseverance.. merry christmas.,

I think the degree, but you need the experience before you go to that job. And I think some company hired a fresh graduate and they trained it the way the company make them experienced.
