How Could I Enter Into Online Proofreading?

I'm just scratching the surface of the online proofreading business, but my first impression is that this is a much more difficult field to enter. I was hoping that somebody here might have advice for low-cost, accredited training, or know of a less traditional path into the profession. Are there similar online companies who give new proofreaders a chance to prove their skills, even without degrees or certificates?

I looked into proofreading a few years ago and it did seem hard to get into.
I also found that the training was expensive and I didn't want to pay the money in case I didn't get enough work to cover my costs. However, I have since found some free courses online. Just type in "free proofreading courses" and you'll come up with something.
You could also try the freelance sites. They always have projects for proofreaders.

Wow, is there such a thing here? I'd like to do this too. I did some proofreading work while at school because I was a member of our school paper. I hope someone here can give the details of the availability of this kind of work online.
