Do you like crafts where you have to use alot of glitter? I really hate to use that stuff, it gets everywhere. I opened a plastic bag just a few minutes ago with a free ornament of a dream catcher in it and planned to put it on the tree but there is glitter already coming off of it. I'm afraid to breathe that stuff in and if my cat gets it on her it would be like feeding it to her cause she would probably get it in her mouth if enough fell off of it. I have to say working with crafts and glitter is quite messy as well. I did want to buy some glitter just to use for my ails but the mess scares me away. I do like the look of it though. What about any crafts supplies would you hate to use for the same or other reasons?

I used to use glitter often and yeah, it can be a mess! If you are able to use it outside, that is your best bet. But inside...I always used a paper plate as it was able to bend so I could pour the g;itter not used back into the bottle. It has sides that went up a bit to keep the glitter on the plate and with the ripple edges, things weren't so easily rolled off. Depending on what you are doing...maybe pour a bowl full of glitter and then lay your item in the bowl and roll it around in the glitter instead of shaking the glitter onto the time. And make sure you let your item DRY completely before you pick it up again. If the glue doesn't dry...the glitter won't stay...even tho wet! Odd, but true. So just make sure things dry completely. Another way is to use a large plastic flat container...like one for cupcakes or a tray with sides and a lid. The high sides help control the "fly away" glitter and depending on what you are doing..you can put the items in the container...secure lid and then shake the container to cover the item with glitter. Good luck and keep trying.Glitter is a fun medium to work with and just brightens things up!

That is a great suggestion had I a project in mind right now for that. I am just mostly interested in doing my nails with it if anything. I would have to do those one by one rather than roll them in the glitter but for any other craft projects rolling them in the glitter like that is just very smart.

I hate glitter, I propbably not put the ornament up. Patches tends to eat the glitter things, and the tinsel, as well as the tree. So when I move out I don't plan on having any of it, and a small tree that I can lock up when I'm not home. It can cause seriously illness to them if they eat it. I know many don't give me anything like that as they know it would sit in a box as I wouldn't bring it out because of the brats may eating it.

I put it on my table area here, and not near the tree at all. I just liked the ornament so much but too afraid of the cat getting into it somehow or another and she has enough problems right now with her skin.

Yes, glitter is not something that is easy to use and messy. Also sequins can be quite messy as well. I have done a lot of crafts over the yrs, using both of there items. Usually enjoy how they look when they are done ... Just hate cleaning up the mess.

Messy is just not my forte anymore, too many thins for my age to clean is just not that motivating. I just don't do many crafts in general either now cause I don't have much time.

Ahh I hate that stuff! And what about when someone sends you a card, and its covered in glitter. All over your clothes, face, furnishings.. etc. I noticed this Christmas going to the Dollar Store for gift bags, every stinking bag had glitter on it. I had it everywhere, and you're right, I'm afraid its going to end up in the cats mouth in the end.

Exactly. I hate that. I like the thought, that is what counts most. But the person sending the card has no idea, and thinks of it as just something pretty and beautiful. I appreciate that too.I have not bought any bags from the dollar store this year cause I haven't been feeling really that rich at all, so didn't buy one. I do have a few extra from previous years I might use this year.

I don't use just glitter. I use glitter glue, that way it doesn't get all over and you have the same effect. I love most supplies that I use...if I don't like them then they get pitched. I also have a friend that uses alot of glitter that when she does her husband knows right away because the dog is usually covered in it when he gets home from work.

Glitter is one of the world's best inventions for that, you are right. In nail polish it's even better to use. I hope the dog isn't consuming that glitter you're talking about, poor thing. Funny in one way, but to have a glittered dog isn't funny at all.

OH Boy the Glitter brigade LOL I make seashell angels. The whole shell and her wings get glitter put on. Its like a glitter dust. Its very shimmery and just gorgeous. BUT like you said, it goes everywhere specially the dust. I now tend to take the shimmer outside. I also put my glitter dust in a salt shaker. that seems to keep the glitter in the area I am trying to put it on. and then I use paper towels underneath the angel so I can roll it up and put the glitter back in the salt shaker. Works pretty well. Now what I can tell you I dont like is when I get all this confetti stuff in a card. You are not prepared you open your card and hundreds of this confetti type things fall all over your table, lap, floor, etc. I curse silently as I have to clean all these pieces up. maybe thats why I no longer like recieving a card!

Same with me--I HATE getting cards like that--full of confetti or glitter. I used to get a lot more, which used to REALLY bother me because my kids were toddlers and would naturally be attracted to the shiny stuff--usually all over the floor. And if the kids didn't get to it (and try to eat it) the cats would. I think I have complained enough over the years that I don't get too many any more...but every year I get at least one...

Taking it outside is a great idea if the weather is good. Right now it is rather cold and even if I wanted to paint my ails outside it would be freezing. I don't like the confetti things in cards either, it is so messy and just nothing that fun for me. Did you get alot of people to send you cards like that? I have been lucky I guess. I would never send anyone a card like that either. I remember it used to be so popular for a few years.

I also love seeing glitters and how it looks on things, But I also don't like it when it gets everywhere. I remember this one project that I made using a lot of glitters, I used more time cleaning up the glitters than making the projects itself. And what I hate is the glitters are coming off and again I had to clean it up. It's everywhere.

Yes, i've used glitter on my miniature crafts before and it is a pain. If at all possible, I used to water down some white glue, like Elmer's, and brush it over the glitter to hold it on better. Of course, I had to wait until the glitter was dry and shaken off as much as possible before doing this. It worked pretty good. Maybe this would work on your nails too. You can also use a light varnish for crafts too and gently paint the varnish over the glitter. Yes, watch your kitty around it.

Yes varnish and other things like the watered down glue should work. I have to get some clear nail enamel again one of these days as all my polishes are old and somewhat dried. I haven't used them in a long long time though either.

I love to do art and craft. I do not like to use glitters and it is really messy and I think it is bad for health if we inhale it. Truly agree with you, some of the Christmas decorations have this glitters that tend to drop everywhere on the floor. The glitter do have its beauty but I will give it a NO. Merry Christmas ...

Yes, we don't want to inhale it either. I am sure if we get it too close to our breathing passages it cold happen. especially for someone with an already bad breathing or lung problem, it would be bad. Merry Christmas to you as well. I do love glitter and the way it looks but messy isn't something I can deal with anymore.

I am not fond of working with it myself.Too messy. But my granddaughter loves to put glitter on everything. If it didn't come off so easily it might not be so bad.

That is the thing, it does come off very very easily. Too bad for that otherwise it would be more fun to use. I will be putting the ornament I have with glitter on it away soon and will even mark it "Glitter Falls Off" so I won't open it again next year and have it all over the place.

I love the look of glitter but don't like the mess of working with it. 45 years ago I made all the ornaments on my tree using glitter and they really were beautiful but the mess it left was not so pretty. I use to do exactly what coffeebreak (above) did with the paper plate. But still I would find it in all kinds of places - the floor, other rooms of the house, in the bed, my hair and my underwear. I didn't have any pets at the time. I was between cats. I haven't used any in years but I still have some small jars of it somewhere. The only craft I do now is Origami and the only thing I use for that is paper. No problem there except picking up all the crumpled pieces off the floor from when I get frustrated.

ROFL @ underwear! That really made me laugh. I suppose it could get in there too. I keep diliberating wether or not to buy any in the dollar store, the amount is so tiny for the $1. you pay. Origiami is a fun craft and no it isn't as messy. I had a book on that once and no idea what I did with it, probably sold it on eBay.

for the glitter, if you get a piece of paper 12 x 12 or 11 x 8 and make a crease down the center, and when you cover your craft piece in glitter, you can then shake the excess of onto the creased paper, and usng the creased paper, empty the left over excess glitter into the bottle again. Saves mess and money. The only craft the bothers me is the glue where the nozzle always gets clogged up.
