Do you think he meant no harm, or wants to steal these if gone unnoticed?

Okay, so here is a story a friend shared with us. They had a party at the hotel, my friend and her office mates left their purses in their table and went for a bathroom break. They did not go for a long time, but then when they went back to their seats (table) with other office mates, their purses and bags were all gone. about 3 of them had lost their stuffs and no one noticed who took them.
My friend knew someone in the telecoms and had their phone traced - It has been missing for about 5 hours now and they basically closed the event trying to see who from the people around might have taken the bags and cellular phones. So there were about 35 missed calls, and the phones were all ringing. They knew it was already taken to this place - a bit far from where the party was held.
at around 3am, someone called my friend, she had another phone that was not "stolen" and the caller identified herself as a mother of their other office mate. She said that her son brought home some stuffs thinking that they (owners have already left the party). Okay so this office mate did not even let anyone from their group knew that he took the items with him and went home... while the party was just about to start?!
We all think that there might have been an intention to steal the items, or that maybe he is sick that he takes things not his belongings and his mother would just return them for him. Their office mate never spoke about this and just said he was too drunk to remember...
What do you think??

If he was trying to steal that things in manner he did then he is a biggest fool. Even a kid will do more professionally then him. I think he was too drunk and lost his common sense and did this blunder.

well that is a good point, that he may be too drunk. but someone never saw him getting drinks, nor getting drunk and walking like someone who is losing balance, but then who knows. I was just wondering that he was even able to get himself home, eh... with the stuffs he took from others commutting, and we all know commute is not very easy here in the Philippines late in the evening.

Yeah I think it's so suspicious given that he already left even when the party has not started yet. He might want to steal them from the beginning so he try to take those items away from original place. However lucky that people there notice and it seems he got caught even though there is excuse that he's drunk and lose common sense but he seems to got those items in purpose and indeed try to steal.

hi there randomarts, it is quite obvious what the intention was. its really unfair for my friend who was crying all the time, and then was scolded by his parents for what she lost, she had brought her purse with credit cards and atm cards... and it wasn't only her, there were about 2 or three of them who lost their things and stuffs in the venue.

It seems like all evidence points to him as the one whol stole those stuffs. But I think you should hear his side of the story first. Though I do not see any reason as to why he will bring their stuffs home. However, if he has the intention to really steal it and sell it perhaps, he should have taken precautions like keeping those stuffs so that his mother can not see it. Or at least put the phone in silent mode or turned it off.

hi chiwasaki, you do have points in here. our thinking was that we thought though that his mother might have had this happened to him or them already before, and so why would his mother be up at that time and call my friend that he has the phone and the things? its just too fishy, but now thatt the phones were returned we're just so thankful and a lot in their office now, are cautious as to not leaving their stuffs anywhere anymore.

Reading what you have mentioned it seem either the man must have drunk as their family members are saying and if it was stolen then I am sure he would have not given it to her mother and mother would have not come to know that it was your phone,

nope, the mother claimed that he saw the bags and the phones lying in his son's bedroom floor and he was" drunk" and asleep at the time. the guy who took the items home did not even said sorry to have caused his office mates to worry and had to have all the credit cards and atms blocked... something was really just off with the manner this guy took home the personal belongings of others and did not even attempt to let others know he got it.

He's sick. I never heard drunkness trigger a person to steal. Oh my goodness. Lol
